You get caught you get crucified.
The 1951 Giants also cheated with a sign stealing scheme at Polo Grounds.
And?
So if they are not caught until much later they didn’t do anything wrong? My point aligns with the OP, most sports fans cheer for a team that has cheated, no need to crucify past the punishment they received.
That is the issues no punishment was received for he players
Did you read the article he posted. How many hundreds of players have been involved in sign stealing schemes? Do you suspend or fine every single player on the team? It starts and end with team management and they were taken care of. Players generally listen to coaches.
yep, a general is responsible for his troops so when the troops falter the general takes the fall

I won’t try to argue with anyone that wants to crucify the 1951 Giants. Just because I am a Giants fan doesn’t mean I have some belief that they are perfect or above another franchise. My point is if you cheat and get caught you are going to be open for criticism and to say well other people or teams have done it too so get over it is a really weak argument. I don’t really care that they cheated because many forms of cheating have gone on some punished others not but you get popped then people are going to criticize.

Sign stealing is not cheating but using electronics to do so is
51 giants using binoculars from CF clubhouse to signal to players in the bullpen to throw a glove in the air for an off speed pitch. That’s the same thing! Just that the tech wasn’t available yet haha
A runner on second base sign stealing, like you mentioned is not cheating.

if the electronics we have now were available then, they would've been using them.

They were awarded immunity for cooperation. That's the only way the truth would come to light, and that's what happened. Major League Baseball just wanted to learn their scheme to prevent it from happening again, they were looking bigger picture.

I guess it really just come down to what Jesus once said and I'm paraphrasing " he who is without sin cast the first stone"
the Astros players could've/shouldve handled things better that they didn't is why I truly can't stand 'em. -

the Astros players could've/shouldve handled things better that they didn't is why I truly can't stand 'em.The word cheating is a tricky word to use in baseball in general. There is such a fine line between what would be considered “strategy” and “cheating”. And I think like most things we would each place that line in different spots. As a player I picked the other teams signs from the bases from CF and from the dugout. Was I cheating? I didn’t and still don’t think so but I wouldn’t argue if someone felt I was.

I was at "Mother's Bar" in Ocean Beach San Diego the night the Cubbies won in '16, paid a girl $100 to take my shift so I could watch the game- next to watching Sammy hit homers #60, 61 and 62 in person September 12-13 1998 against Milwaukee it was the greatest baseball experience of my life.

if you aint cheating you aint trying, cheating has been going on in sports since the inception of sports just sometimes people get caught. had they admitted to it, no worries water under the bridge.
Horrible mindset. This guy doesn't wear a mask for sure.
“In the minds of the public, there seems to be an impression that sign stealing is illegal—at any rate, unsportsmanlike. It is not so regarded by ball players. If a player is smart enough to solve the opposing system of signals he is given due credit…. There is another form of sign stealing which is reprehensible and should be so regarded. That is where mechanical devices worked from outside sources, such as the use of field glasses, mirrors and so on, are used… Signal-tipping on the fields is not against the rules, while the use of outside devices is against all the laws of baseball and the playing rules. It is obviously unfair.”

Had they of actually punished the players, made them accountable, punished the team with something more than a slap on the wrist, people would of forgotten about it by now.

no, had the players apologized all would have been good, the punishment was appropriate the reaction by the punished was not.
