I was wondering the same thing on these prices. It's early but they are more than double last week's cards. And we knew last week's cards would work for Trout too. All things are equal except the price, which leads me to believe it's just because people are chasing Ruth right now. Maybe the stub sale is having an impact too. But I really thought (still hope) they will drop to the 8k range.

Why are they selling so high?
If I already have Trout, any reason to collect these guys? None of them make my team and I doubt the Lightening player will either?
Maybe another DOTP or Beach Ball Pack will be tied to collecting them.
I can easily make over 70k selling them off right now....hmmmm...
I think you will need them for the POTM program.
And another possible massive collection

When SDS tweeted before Trout came out that the rarest item in MLB the show 20 is about to be released that is a pretty good indication

They also called it "the chase" and I don't know about you but I got Trout within minutes of release and I don't feel like I chased a darn thing.
I'm confident there will be another part to this collection.

Here's where I'm at:
- Prime: 14/15 (I'll either do the Moments for Griffey Sr. or buy Matt Kemp)
- Awards: 12/15 (Still haven't unlocked Phillips & Longoria. I'll likely buy Murphy, Story, or Foster)
- Topps Now: 8/15 (This one seems like it'll almost do itself)
- Prospects: 16/21 (I'm thinking the 7th Inning Conquest will help here. I could buy Julio Rodriguez, Matt Manning, and/or Logan Gilbert if they get real cheap, if not I'll just buy Casey Mize, Adley Rutschman, Bobby Witt Jr., and Royce Lewis)

And 5 topps now. I’m going to lock in Dibble to make it 14/15 Prime players, was thinking I could buy Pablo,Dozier. Or Darvish but I think I’m just going to wait until they release another player program for a Prime card so I can save some stubs. -

It’s not just for the trout collection, if you go to the collection page it clearly says collect topps now players and monthly awards players for August potm.
When that drops these cards will be in high demand

I never fully trust what they tweet out or say, I see that tweet and think they can mean “rarest current card” but agree I don’t think there will be a larger collection reward than trout because if they do they will have a lot of unhappy people who sold off all the extra cards they didn’t need that are now almost non existent with everyone collecting them.
I do however think there will be more collection awards. I think there might be something to do with collecting all the TA cards a team has to get the 4th TA, or a collection reward for collecting every TA card.

That my friend would be their problem. Nothing they can be unhappy about if they cashed out on a ton of stubs instead of getting Trout. I played it safe and only sold off duplicates.

I need 1 of: 3 post season, 1 prestige , Griffey, 1 prestige.
I have the primes but haven’t locked them in, and I sold bench for 95k bc I figure there will be more and cheaper options. I’m not in a hurry for it. I also feel like there has to be more to the journey, Trout just isn’t the kind of player I’d expect. That’s why I feel like there will be more. They may have said the rarest, but it is currently the rarest.... which could change

“The chase for” probably did refer to fishing. I’ve been fishing for 20 years, a lot. When you ask someone what they are fishing for, you ask them what they are “chasing”. “I’m chasing the Trout today” or “chasing the largies today”.
It’s common fisherman lingo. It also could be coincidence. But his name is Trout. And he does like fishing doesn’t he? -

Actually it would be a sds problem. Many people collected trout and had left over cards that became very expensive because they are no longer available to get, and with how easy it is to get trout compared to Honus last year, more people are doing the trout collection. A company’s goal is to make money, and if you have cards in the game that need to be collected that are only a handful left in the market that could go for a million plus for a card no one would use. Besides diehard rich players, spending 500 plus dollars in stubs for a non usable player is out of the question for almost everyone meaning no one will buy stubs for it I.e. less money for sds.
Too many people forget that their is business sense to everything they do. An example is all the people who complain about too many good future stars are just dumb. SDS spent a lot of time and money to get the rights to minor leaguers so of course their gonna highlight them this year. What’s the point of doing all that to release prospect cards people won’t use after the first month of the game? If people think that’s the way it should be for sds business, there’s a bridge in New York id love to sell them...

He's someone people really struggle to hit online. He's not my favorite or the most fun to use but he is incredibly reliable. In 28.2 innings online, he's sporting a 1.73 ERA for me and I think the runs came in only one or two games. He still has a sparkling 0.00 ERA against the CPU in 32 innings for me.
Out of the three you mentioned, the only one I locked in was Dozier but when I got him, I only paid 12-14K. He's actually a really good card and is one of my favorite pinch-hitters against lefties.
