I just took a few minutes to look at the Community Stats for July 2020 and the numbers I was interested in were Homeruns per Hit (HR/H) and Strikeouts per Plate Appearance (SO/PA).

According to the stats, on All-Star, HR/H is 26.3% and SO/PA is 19.1% and on HoF, the numbers were 26.6% for HR/H and 22.4% SO/PA.

I did some basic maths with the numbers for the actual majors available online and I came up with the following numbers for the last 5 years:

    For HR/H, we have 16.1%, 13.6%, 14.5%, 13.3% and 11.7%
    For SO/PA, we have 23.0%, 22.3%, 21.6%, 21.1% and 20.4%

For the current season, we are looking at 15.7% HR/H and 23.8% SO/PA.

What I see here is that on HoF, the SO/PA is close to the major league average but on All-Star, we are about 4% below the MLB average. Not the end of the world, and indicative of the pitch speed and the uncanny ability of pitchers to miss in the heart of the plate WAAAAY too often.

For HR/H though, the average is WAY too high in MLB The Show compared to the MLB average. We are looking at about a 10% difference. I know this is a game, and games are not reality, but this speaks to what I've always hated about this game, and what many other people think as well, and that is that this game is all about POWER. Contact and Speed are secondary, and defence is woefully not cared about.

What I'd like to see in future iterations of this game is contact being important (making guys like Tony Gwynn respected when they show up to the plate (if they even MAKE someone's lineup) and make guys like Joey Gallo less feared with a more realistic .214 BA and a 37.8% SO/PA. Yes, the man can hit a ball, but he doesn't hit it often based his stats for the last 6 years.

    Thoughts?

If you look at all the players in the MLB and average them all out, your median MLB hitter is just that... average. Maybe slightly above average.

Look at the normal MLB The Show line-up, and your average hitter is an All-Star, or even a Hall Of Famer. Hard to compare the two unless both were only using live rosters. Franchise numbers would be interesting to check, but DD rosters are simply dream teams.

They keep trying to make defense more important, but the amount of crying that happens when the RNG causes an error in a RS game is already huge, if there were more errors in H2H games some people here would lose their minds, likely go postal and go shoot up SDS.

No but seriously i have seen SDS try to resolve this, but the fact is the last time i felt like Power wasnt everything was 17, then the broke the 99 wall and it has been all power all the time. It is better than 18, but still not back.

    It's the age-old debate.

How do you both reward user input, but also try and keep it realistic?

Because most good players aren't going to bat .214 with Joey Gallo, so the only answer would be to nerf good contact and make a ton of outs, which isn't a good solution

I agree with you. Its not easy to balance. I’d say make the vision circle the current contact circle, make the contact circle smaller and make it when you power swing, the PCI is the size of the ball. To compensate, slow down the pitch speeds slightly.

I’ll be honest,I don’t have the answer. Maybe as a community we can come up with something.

My hope is to make it so that all players become viable. Who knows, maybe SDS is responsible with the power creep that has been slowly getting i to the game. I just don’t know. I am hoping we can figure it out though.
