This years collection could be a big letdown. Honus was a great fit last year since he had great contact, good enough power, elite speed and was a diamond defender at nearly every position. He was a good fit for almost everyone. There are a few big names like McGuire that might seem exciting at first but when you see his attributes he will basically be Pete Alonso in the game. Sosa would be a big name and would probably be more valuable to most teams than McGuire But not a great fielder. Manny would be popular but would be a terrible fielder and would basically be the jd card that was released this week. Someone who has been in the game previously would be a letdown as well. Basically you have arod, jeter, DiMaggio, Aaron, Clemente. Of course bonds would make everyone’s head explode but that doesn’t seem likely. The Carlos Beltran from 17 would be a great fit for Almost everyone’s lineup but after the trash cans he is probably out for a while.

If Jeter, the question is whether they will honestly grade out his fielding. He was overrated at SS his entire career. Great player, great clutch, great team captain, just meh defensively. Truth.

If it's Mcgwire, i really hope they give him a 3b and rf secondary, as he played a few games in his career at those positions. Having position flexibly is gonna be huge to make the card more viable for more teams.

This clutch player had less than a .200 avg and less than a .550 ops in the postseason with RISP

That’s why I think Aaron would be a great choice. Elite player and has all outfield and should get first base. First base is not really an attractive option but if you start him in the outfield he gives you the flexibility of sliding an elite outfielder in for your first baseman if you need that matchup and moving Aaron to first.

Aaron is the ideal choice if he allowed his rights this season. With all the other Braves being added, it’s possible he consented. It’s my hope. I’d love to have Aaron, Mantle, and Mays playing in outfield this year. Clemente is my second choice. There’s really nobody from the 90’s worthy of the collection reward other than Bonds possibly (and I cant see that happening). Aaron, Clemente, Ruth, or maybe one of the legendary Negro Leagues players. Those are my wish. Only pitcher I might would lock for would be Satchel Paige, but surely it will be a position player for a reward like this.

I get Clemente is extremely popular, but he'd, assumingly, have fairly low power. 90, tops. He'd be pretty quickly replaced, if he'd make most DD starting squads at all.

I'm really hoping for a shortstop or a versatile infielder. Honus would be perfect again, but he's the only one we know it won't be.

If they were able to get Negro League players Josh Gibson would be possibly the most popular card the game has seen. Mantle is amazing and mays was great last year but there are always tons of great outfielders. I can’t think of any catcher that has been an absolute no doubt for everyone. Piazza defense is just ok and his swing is not always popular. Other guys have great d but not a lot of pop. Gibson would be possibly the best card in the game at a relatively thin position.

Aaron would be great, 30 bag stealer, gold glove, great hitting, would be surprising that they didn’t market him before the game

With McGwire that all depends on what year. You take his 70hr season yeah your looking at a Pete Alonso max power both sides 65-70 contact both sides and low speed and silver at best. However his rookie card would have around 100+ power but have that 65-70 speed which would help out a lot of people who want a speed line up.

I agree that's why i think it would be a multi-player reward. Honus was a five tool player and his major attraction was that he could play like six positions. I would probably not lock in tons of stubs for a one position player like griffey or babe. Babe would be the best hitter with buns fielding, pretty much a pinch hitter or a late game pull for defense.

That's when they make it a signature series card and take the best stats and attributes from different years and combine them into one beastly card. If it was based off one year like an awards card it wouldn't be that great.

McGwire was my favorite player, so I’m hopeful it’s him - obviously Hank Aaron would be a More desirable choice. McGwire was a decent fielder and I imagine he’d have at least silver defense with 50ish speed. The question you gotta ask yourself is if you would pay for a collection reward like last years Pujols. If so, then McGwire would be “worth it”, but I can see that for most a Righty 1B would not be a popular card when so many options exist.

The more I think about this, the more I’m thinking Bonds could be a very real possibility.

Marketing him and trying to sell copies off his name could maybe be seen as “controversial” so this could be the best way to sneak him in and cash in at the same time.
