Figured out how CPU chooses its SP
-
I'm sure a lot of you figured this out by now but I just realized it so maybe it'll help others.
The CPU doesn't choose the starting pitcher out of random. It matches up with # starter you choose. For example, you pick your #3 starter for the game, the CPU will take the #3 or 3rd Best SP on the roster and face you. You pick your #5, the CPU will choose it's 5th best SP.
Just want to share that so it may help you in matchups.

Kinda correct.
It's actually by the overall of your pitcher you choose. If you put your highest overall sp in the 5th spot, you'll still get the cpu's ace. If you put your lowest overall of your 5 sp in the 5th spot, then you will get the cpu's 5th starter. -

How did you not know this?? I figured this out about March 20th... Only for Conquest mode too. Play vs CPU is random.

I recently have been using my #5 rated started to grind innings, and still getting the CPU's top arm. Maybe it's because my #5 is still >90 ovr, but I don't know.

Also, say if you have 2 guys in your rotation the same overall, it then goes by alphabetical order I noticed. Say your #4 and #5 starters are both 85 overall for example. Then the guy with a last name that comes first alphabetically will be considered your #4 and the guy with the last name that comes later alphabetically will be #5 when the cpu is matching it’s rotation to yours.

it is only true in Conquest not vs CPU 9 inning games.

Still never had it random for me. I always get the slotted pitcher on vs CPU. It's weird that it doesnt work the same way for everyone.

Only in Conquest not vs. CPU in 9 inning games

Very strange. It's slotted every time for Conquest Games only, which is nice.
The beat Giants on Allstar game I just did on Play vs CPU mode I used my #1 starter and faced Kevin Gausman (not there #1).
Do you ever play 9 inning play vs CPU games?
-
That was the case in vs cpu games until last week. They were matching your pitcher with the CPU pitcher in both conquest and vs cpu but now it's only conquest games.

Looking on my game history, the last 4 games (the past 2 days) are all vs CPU 9 innings, and faced
TOR-Shoemaker
BAL- Akin
AZ-Weaver
NYY-TanakaAll were with either my 4 or 5 starter.

Just a thought, maybe try your #1 starter? I was looking through my game history, and always seem to get the #4 CPU starter in CPU 9 inning games... no matter what starter I choose.

That’s how it works in real life too.

That's a fair point, I haven't used my top of the rotation in a while. I usually match them up vs the Marlins in the past, as I find Alcantara easy to hit.
