I mean for a world series card and being ken griffey jr. Thats a horrendous card.
This. As soon as I heard they were releasing Jr, I was going to buy him for sure if i couldn't earn him, but now, I don't think so. Have to think a 99 Griffey will come out.

For a 1995 Griffey, it’s really kind of an insult. At what point in his career was he ever better than in 1995?

It’s a postseason card. Griffey only played 70-something regular season games that year.

Almost every year he played from 1990-2005 he was better than in 1995. He was hurt in '95 an had an ops+ of 122....
He was better than that every year till he was chubby...
His best years were the 2 before and 2 after 1995... -
Statistically, yes, but his playoff performance was unbelievable. I posted about this before. Just because he missed so many games due to getting a plate and screws in his wrist doesn’t mean he was less good that year. His numbers were down because of smaller sample size. It shows the deficiency of basing cards off of stats.
For the record, he hit .391 with 5 home runs in the ALDS and .333 in the ALCS that year.

So what should cards be based off of then? How many bowls of Cheerios he ate that season?

All I am saying is 1995 he was at his peak. This card doesn’t reflect that.
The fact is, he got hot when he came off the DL and carried the team through two playoff rounds with Edgar. Basing his 1995 card off his .258 season average is weird.

I do agree that his postseason performance should definitely have higher contact ratings. Dude hit like .360.... OPS well over 1.000..
I think they just made him lower to seperate it from his eventual 99

His stats aren’t gonna put him at a disadvantage against any card. His gold card has low stats and it’s my best player by far, he hits no doubters easily so I’m very excited with this card especially with the 100+ power v righties and his defense being so spectacular is going to be great to cut guys from getting extra bases or scoring on sac flies. They’re trying to be more realistic this year with stats by giving guys their cards based off of what they did during the time of that specific type of card rather than just giving everyone an SS card and making them stacked. This has been more fun to collect and play with so far in my opinion.

His gold card was in my lineup for quite a while. I’m just nostalgic about that year because I was there and it really was something to see. As long as he gets a better end game card, I’m ok with it I guess. If anybody is curious, those ‘95 Yankees mariners games have been re-broadcast recently and are up on YouTube. I highly recommend.
