The Biggest Problem With This Game

Is that the 4 seam fastball is the worst pitch in the game.
It disrupts all realism in choosing pitchers and in pitching strategy.
Sinkers appear to move faster than fastballs. Some have argued about spin rate making it seem that way, but the spin on a 4 seamer should be faster than any other pitch.
I don't know if it's spin, timing windows, or what, but...
Make 4 seamers great again.

Do you play on a monitor? If not, good for you. I play on a tv and you might be able to shut me out if you can spot fastballs all game. 90 percent of my opponents are the same way. It’s only when I see a World Series banner that I know I really have to be smart with my fastballs.

Yeah, I'm on a monitor and I'm a WS and 12-0 player. I sparingly use four seamers. I think four seamers are the easiest pitch to hit.

Very few major leaguers throw a 'straight; 4-seam fastball. Maybe kershaw and buehler and guys who throw over the top but Gerrit cole throws a 98 mph running fastball. They honestly should add that pitch in the game or just rename the sinker as a running fastball because I think 1-2 MLB starters actually throw sinkers and those historic pitchers were NOT throwing 95 mph sinkers as those are physically impossible haha. They were realistically probably 86 mph sinkers that were really fastballs that had late dip because they couldnt break 90

I've argued that the 4 seamer should move so I'm happy to see you say that. There are a few guys that throw sinkers that hard. Jordan Hicks throws a sinker over 100. That said, I agree with you, four seamers should move and I think that would make the game much better. It's really too bad when guys like Cole are just not good in the game.
-
Average speed of the sinker is 88.9 mph. The fastest shown that I researched was Britton at 95.8 and he threw it over 809 times.. So this outlier given to Britton and others on the sinker is not physically possible. Your adding mph to a pitch that’s average is below 90

I guess I see it that you are obviously really good and are also probabaly playing another really good player on a monitor because of your rankings. Probably less than 10 percent of the players are on a monitor. So, 4 seam fastballs are useless to a small number of you, but are really useful for and against most players.
I’m not docking you for being good. But you play on a monitor to make those fastballs look slow. So, that’s what happens to you and the other monitor players.

This is exactly why I have no problem with faster pitch speeds. It needs to be fast enough to the point where fastballs aren't super easy to hit. Otherwise we'll have another Slow Pitch Softball 18

Yes. I know I have an advantage playing on a monitor, but the equipment you use is important for any game. You need a monitor to be successful at shooter games too. You need a good PC and wired connection for most PC games. I know there is a divide in the community when it comes to this but there's just no way around it.
And for what its worth, I think pitch speeds are fine right now. I can react to a fastball easily if I'm sitting on it, but if I'm looking off speed and a 100 mph heater comes instead, I'm gonna be late on it
-
There used to be running fastballs in this game. RFB. I wonder what happened to them?
-
Do not swing, and try to follow any pitch offline, and eventually you are able to see it and have success with your timing and so forth.
However, in online h2h, that does not work consistently, and that is a big problem. Whether it is due to the programming, network latency, SDS manipulation of the timing window, etc....online pitches cannot be accurately tracked. Your best bet is to guess better at the timing and location of the pitches, than your opponent.
So, consequently, user input is unfortunately minimized and randomness rules online gameplay to a big extent....even though there are the same group of gamers at the top of the leaderboard every year, who have somehow seemingly "figured it out". -

And to be clear, I’m not docking you or the OP for having a monitor. If I had the space in my house, I would have one. But, the original post is about how fastballs are useless and too slow. You made a comment about the divide, but that divide is only for less than 10 percent of the player base. Now, on this forum, that percent is much higher, because these are players that are competitive and love this game.
I’m just trying to say that fastballs are useful against 90 percent of the player base, even On all star difficult. As the good players level up in ranked, so do the pitch speeds. They might be useless against good players on monitors as you work your way up. But, they are probably useful if you make it to legend difficulty in rs.
I would buy a monitor because it would make fastballs look slower, but then I can’t then say I don’t like slow fastballs. I know that’s not what you’re saying, but that is how these threads are interpreted by guys like me. This game is not a pc game. So, in my opinion, it shouldn’t HAVE to be played on a pc monitor to enjoy it. If fastballs were amped up, enjoyability would drop for a large chunk of the players.

Yep....and that has helped somewhat (by .030), but if I am facing someone out of the country or a considerable amount away, then a monitor will not help... It is a true guess fest lol.

I think that fastballs can be useful even for monitor players. You just have to know when to mix it in to keep your opponent off balance. The main thing is that sinkers are so much faster that there isn't a need to throw a 4 seamer for many pitchers

Sure, you can "mix them in" but in real baseball it is the primary pitch that everything else is based on for most pitchers. The biggest tell for me is, what is the pitch I like to hit the most? It's one of two things: hanging slider or fastball.
-
That other thread going also sums up the problem you describe. In a full count, most players will not give in and throw a ball looking for a chase. I would say way less players will choose to challenge with a fastball.

Actually it is people's not so good internet that makes the ball look slow. There are a ton of tell tale signs when you run into players with not so good internet. These happen all the way through from 400-900 but the higher you go in rank the more you see it. You want the best advantage you can get in this game? Stay away from really good (wired fiber) or really bad (satellite) internet.
