Nationals have been around 14 seasons. There are no retired legends who were a Nat and not an expo. There will be (Stras, Scherzer kind of) but it's early. Expos are your team's history, plain and simple. And they have quite a few greats

I acknowledge all that you’re saying, but an Alfonso Soriano (one of the great seasons of all time) or Jayson Werth would be pretty cool as an exclusively Nats fan. I’m not saying they’re the best of the best, but there were some really solid nationals, that weren’t expos, that are now retired

Soriano played 1 year in WAS... And though it's neat he had 40/40, great season of all time??? Not even remotely. 5.4 fWAR is hardly a great season of all time. 5+ players do better than that every year..

And Werth was a huge negative on that franchise, a total albatross of a contract which he provided 14.4 fWAR in 7 years!!! For a hefty 126 million.. that's literally replacement level for 18mill per year. Forgettable

Hence why I said one of the great seasons of all time and not one of the best. He’s the only player with 40 doubles, 40 homers, and 40 SBs in a season, which is pretty great. It was also his first year as an outfielder, so if I had to guess, his defensive metrics weren’t great without looking it up.

As far as Jayson Werth goes, I agree that the contract was big by looking at the numbers, but he was one of their first big FA signings, was apparently a great clubhouse guy, and was a good mentor to the young players in the organization. They were terrible before Jayson Werth and had to overspend to put themselves on the map as a decent FA destination. He was one of the guys who helped the Nationals make pushes for the playoffs. I get that you aren’t a Nats fan so you wouldn’t understand, but when even Ryan Zimmerman references Jayson Werth when talking about the 2019 World Series win, you know he was pretty important to the Nationals

For milestone numbers, sure 40/40 is cool. But when talking about great seasons, anyone who ended up 40/40 but still only accumulated 5.4 fWAR tells me he must have really sucked in a lot of other aspects.
Which Soriano did. Brutal defense, didn't walk much and struck out way too much.

A 10+ fWAR season is a great season of all time.. not half that

What about the people that were Expos fans and now are Nationals fans though? Don't they deserve some of the legends they enjoyed watching too?

Yeah, they do. I just think those players are better suited to be headliners, WS, or BR rewards

agree to disagree, personally i think Expos fans should be able to grind for a card instead of having to pay hundreds of thousands of stubs for a card if they can't get to WS.
