I agree with your take on hitting. I have never made WS, but CS at least once per year. I don’t play a lot of RS. Either way, normally I am decent enough to have some success. This year I can’t hit the broadside of a barn. Every offspeed pitch is an enigma. They all look like strikes and end up 10ft out of the zone. Maybe just need to get more games in to get up to speed. But it definitely seems a little different. Also I am on PS5 this year, so I dunno if that has any impact, but it’s the only thing I can think of that I’m doing differently from prior years
I'm interested to hear the difference between PS5 and 4. I am still on the 4, so that hasn't changed. I honestly don't know if the new system would help me at all, but I couldn't do any worse than I have since reaching HoF difficulty

Let me start by saying I do not frequent these forums, at least not in quite some time. So if I'm being redundant or anything else, know that I have no idea what everyone has been talking about for the last month and a half.
I have been an avid DD player since MLB 17, and with that I have experience enough to compare the last few iterations. With that said, this year's game has been the most frustrating to me by far of any game. I am unsure if my skill has regressed in comparison to the other players and adaptations within the game, or if it's actually the way the gameplay works. Either way, here are my thoughts on each aspect of the game.
Pitching wise, I've always been hit or miss. I have not tried out pinpoint extensively, I still use pure analog (or whatever it is called), so I cannot really speak on pitching.
Base running wise, this year's inputs seem sometimes to be delayed or at least sometimes funky/glitchy. I find myself sending runners, to later see that they did not advance. I am not necessarily saying this is some incredible issue, because it could just me being bad with my timing. However, it is different from how successful (or not) I've been in previous years, so I figured it worth noting.
Hitting. Hitting. Hitting.
What can I say about hitting this year, other than I suck? I don't square the ball up nearly as often as I have in previous years. I have no idea what changes were made to pitch speeds/movement or any codes within the mechanics, but I am significantly worse than any other year. Not only am I worse at putting PCI to ball, but it seems as if the feedback this year is either wrong, or they messed with something to make outcomes less input based. I have had pitches where the PCI barely touched the ball for a 500 foot HR on an early swing. I've had [censored] near perfect PCI placements with "good" swing timing result in catcher popups (the most recent being with LS Acuna vs a lefty). I have no idea what I'm doing at the plate most times, and it doesn't really seem to make a difference which cards I use. Good inputs with elite cards result the same weak flyouts I get with bad swings with every card.I don't know if I'm in the majority or the minority, but I suck at hitting this year. With all of that being said, I still enjoy the grind and will still continue to play, I just felt like writing my thoughts down somewhere. Feel free to let me know your thoughts, especially if I'm the only one and I just suck.
Note: I am typically a 800 rating range player. Not good enough to make WS easily, but good enough to make it if I have the time/energy to play enough games.
This year, I can't make it out of the 700s. Like I said, not sure of any game changes or if pitch speeds changed at the hall of Fame level, but I have struggled significantly since hitting 700 rating. -

Turn off messages from non-friends. This is a must in online play for the show imo
I've never noticed issues with this on ranked. Only this event.

I have received a message asking me to quit or walk them 10 times for a daily mission in each of my last 3 games. This is getting wild.

I've always wondered how they come up with some ratings. Flaherty is great, but I think there are others that deserve a diamond rating more than he does, like Juan Soto (completely unbiased).
Although I agree Soto is fantastic, he wasn't as valuable as Flaherty last year and about equal the year before. What hurts Soto is his poor fielding. Where I think he should be diamond as well though is because of his postseason performance. That should have bumped him up.
Soto had a .400 OBP last year and he was a gold glove finalist last year. I think he was the most valuable player to the Nats outside of Rendon who drove him in every time. Again, completely unbiased opinion here.

Loads of those quys had future stars cards in previous years. Robles even has a future stars throwback card this year lol

I thought his prospect card swung a wet ramen noodle
Yes, he is a pure contact hitter with no sign of power and has really good to great speed. He will be similar to a Tony Gwynn at best or a better average, less k's, and also a less speedy version of Billy Hamilton.
Only 4 homeruns in his entire minor league career is pretty terrible. Not to mention he only had a 114 wRC+ in Triple-A.
The dude isn’t going to be anything special at the major league level.
He can barely get a .100 ISO, so he doesn’t just not hit homeruns, he doesn’t get any exit velocity at all.
I don’t get this take at all. He gets on base. He has an elite glove. He’s faster than balls. Guys like madrigal are important because they set the table so a guy like Eloy doesn’t end the year with 40 HRs and 40 RBI.
By this measure, i guess you think Ozzie Smith “wasn’t anything special” at the major league level?
The only way this argument holds is if Madrigal plays defense like the greatest defensive shortstop ever (at the least until Simmons is done).
While I agree that contact and speed guys are important, don't make a comparison that doesn't hold to prove your point.
-
I went power at 89 overall. With gold equipment he is at 95 power and about 85 contact vs both (not sure of exact #s but it's close). Gold Fielding, so somewhere in the 80s with 90 something Arm strength and 49 speed. I'm happy with how he plays.
Honestly, I think picking a good swing that you are good with is more important than the stats.

No, I meant he sucks. Other contact/speed options still generate good exit velos on lines drives and ground balls and such. My experience with Madrigal is that he can't hit it harder than it was thrown to him.
At least that’s realistic lmao.
What if they gave this card good power, to you know, drive the interest and stock of the card up?

Who ever said there wasn't a factor of RNG in the game? Nothing is unaffected by RNG on some level.
You completely missed the point.
Oky doky. I'll just continue to be a total simp who actually enjoys playing the game. It seems to beat the alternative of checking the hit chance every time something doesn't go my way. Plus, fortunately I don't have the time and am not so affected by a VIDEO GAME that I need to pour my heart out every time I lose a game!
FYI, the last sentence isn't directed at you. It's a broad generalization. One that is sadly very accurate for way too many people on here. It's a video game. Have fun playing it. If you're inclined to write an anti-MLBTS manifesto on a weekly basis then I'd start looking for another game. Or a completely different hobby altogether.
I had nothing to say about your point of view on the game. All I was saying, is that you missed the point of his post. You either completely did not comprehend it, or you chose not to read it and respond anyways.
The point of the post was not to bad mouth the game and RNG and how he lost or anything like that.
The whole point of the post was to stir discussion and question how much RNG SHOULD be incorporated into competitive game modes. He was raising the question that baseball can be random, but how much RNG should there be in a competitive game based on user input.

I just gave up an early/okay HR to Nate Pearson.
That is all. -
I recommend Doolittle from the As collection as well as the Isringhausen from the Cards collection. Or if you want to spend a bit more, do the Doolittle collection and then go for Gagne or Nenn

I didn't think injuries were on in ranked seasons, but I just had my starter get a concussion in the first inning and have to be pulled.
Pitchers can still get hurt. If it’s first inning and a scoreless game, the courtesy is usually to send a friendly quit in this situation. Last year I had a game where Joey gallo hit a hard chopper and it hit Bret Cecil in the face and he fell over and started convulsing, it was kinda funny
It was the second batter of the game, and Forest Whitley got taken out by 111 mph. I offered a friendly and he declined. I put Ohtani in who proceeded to get rocked lol
