Yesterday I was playing someone in ranked seasons. I was beating them 4-1. After every batter, they would pause for about 20 seconds or more. It drove me INSANE. If I had been losing, I would have quit right there. Thankfully, this guy was dumb enough to leave it paused long enough for the pause time to run out.

The worst is when people used to hold R2 before every pitch and pause everytime they got a hit too. [censored] was annoying.

Agreed. I hold R2 only to either look at the card, the previous pitches, or to see a pitchers stamina/confidence. Some people hold it the whole time. I had that happen yesterday. I would select my pitch, then have to wait 4 seconds to wind up.

I hold R2 to check the pitcher's pitches, confidence, and stamina.

Yep. It's amazing how many feathers are ruffled when you point out obvious glitches and call out cheaters. I strongly suspect that many posters here are the actual cheaters.

They're not cheaters they're just trash and they enjoy winning off of the bs that happens to players better than them. Seeing players better than then struggle raises their self esteem

I hate when that happens. I have lost at least 5 games because my centerfielder can't catch, even if he is a good fielder.

What's funny is that isn't even the main issue with this game. Hitting is so bad like its terrible. I feel no user input at all and it's gets annoying seeing so many people say that hitting is better when its clearly not.

  • I made WS last night

@ryansitko11 said in I made WS last night:

It was the least fun experience playing The Show I've had in a long time. This isn't a brag post, I'm just sharing my experience and my thoughts about a WS run. Its a lot of rambling so feel free to not read it

I'm a competitive person by nature. Ranked seasons is how I fill my need for competition in my life, especially with COVID-19 and not being able to do anything else. Sadly, ranked seasons has turned into the opposite of competitive. It is nothing but a series of random outcomes where your input as a user hardly matters at all.

Almost every game there was something that made me want to throw my PS4 out the window, whether it be good/okays, or multiple perfect/perfect outs, or my pitches going wherever they want to, or my fielders forgetting how to pick up a baseball. Because of all this, I could only manage to play 2 or 3 games a day for most of the season. There were more days where I didn't play then days I played.

I had been sitting at ~850 and needed to get over the hump, partially because I wanted Britton, and partially to fulfill my competitive desire and finish what I started. So I sat down and grinded it out until I finally got there. In one game, I had about 4 good/squared outs and one perfect/perfect out, while my opponent had 3 total hits, one of which was an early/good home run. I ended up losing that one on a late/squared screamer down the line.

In the game where I made WS, I had 4 runs, only 2 of which were deserved, and my opponent had about 6 instances of hard hit balls going directly to fielders. I can say without a doubt that I didn't deserve that win, or at the least it shouldn't have been a 4-1 game. When I win I want it to feel deserved, and therein lies the problem.

I don't think I'm going to even bother with RS this season. I have no motivation to improve my skills, because what's the point? It was more of a headache than anything battling with RNGesus to make WS this time around. And even when I made it there, I didn't feel it was deserved. It truly is sad to see that what was once a fairly competitive game has devolved into a button clicking simulation where no skill is required to succeed.

Congrats man. Enjoy it. I can't deal with the bs so i don't even care about my rating anymore but you put up with it so good for you.

@Nats19Champions said in Online play has become a disaster:

I wish I could post a screenshot although I did email it in to the Show team, but I lost a game last night because of a bad call at first that was even worse than Jim Joyce in the perfect game. My runner's foot had crossed the bag literally 2 full seconds before the ball hit the fielder's glove, yet was called out.

Then, in my next game, I was up 3-0 late when everything froze. I left the game on the screen and checked my internet connection, which was running fast and flawlessly. After about an hour, I turned off the game and sure enough, I received a loss despite perfectly working internet and being well ahead in the game.

I am done with online play and certainly with buying stubs or next year's game until you fix these ridiculous bugs and also crack down on cheaters. Playing online is supposed to be fun, instead it's been ruined by glitches and those who exploit them. Enough is enough.

I've dropped from almost 700 to 400 in 3 days from bad connections to asinine plays that shouldn't happen. I cant hit for [censored] all of the sudden, everything I throw is a HR ball even 10 ft off the plate, and I only have 4000 stubs. My pack luck sucks but I need to switch things up and have no idea wtf to do.

Update. I made it man! Just takes a little mental break. I had 3 straight come from behind games but they were fun and I kept my cool when [censored] didn't go my way and it definitely helped! Just gotta remind yourself that sometimes things dont bounce your way!

Cool i keep getting to the low 820s and 830s and losing to kluber. Any tips on hitting kluber and hitting better in general?

I generally look for one pitch in one location until two strikes and even then i tend to sell out for certain pitches unless i am seeing it well. There's no shame in striking out 20x if you guess sinker up and in and hit a couple homers. That tends to work for me when I am in a funk I will sit changeup down or fastball low and away etc.

Also when pitching, until you're down 3-0, I always place pitches outside of the strike zone, that way if i miss my spot in the middle of the plate, the ball tends to still be at least on the outer or inner half of the plate rather than hung down the middle. Even like a 2-0 fastball rather than putting it on the black I will move it 1-2 ball lengths outside

I haven't tried that against kluber yet so I'll give it a shot. I've tried to hit everything which fails miserably. Thanks this really helps

Since i suck so much at hitting and pitching, can someone give me tips on how to not get shutout by kluber every game, how to pitch better, and how to hit better. I'm just asking just to hear some thoughts on whats working for you guys this year cause sometimes I don't know what I'm doing at the plate

First. You need strike zone 1 or similar (I use strike zone high) so that you can get better look at pitches. Second, go to practice and whatever level u are currently at, practice one higher until u hit 3 home runs.

    1. When I hit, I put my entire thumb on joystick so that I don’t overreact to pitches. I start with the pci slightly up and inside so when the sinker spammers start throwing it u can crank a few out. Also u need to invest in a 10 dollar thumb extender tab to put on your controller. It really makes a difference.

    2. Try to zone in on the pitcher and see their release. You should be able to tell early if a ball will be high or outside/inside depending on what handed they are and who is batting. Don’t swing at those. In fact I would practice only swinging at balls that will be in the top or middle quadrant. Low balls are harder to pci correctly and most of the time it’s gonna be a ground out.

Lastly, make sure Your TV is on game mode. Makes a big difference. Some people have monitors, I don’t. But I’m only a DS hitter so far and I like playing on a big TV.

Pitching wise the biggest tips I can give are to watch your confidence meter. If it drops below 50% have a mound visit to bump it up. Or else you will start throwing BP all day.

Sounds awesome. I'll keep that in mind thanks.

The PCI has shrunk to miniscule status, and everyone im playing is waaay above me in rating. I don't really even care to make it any higher, but I was having a BLAST with this game until now

Congrats bro. Keep your lineup, stay consistent and you'll hit cs in no time. Keep the guys your good with.

Everything is amazing this year. Fielding is great, nobody ever drops the ball or lets it hit them in the head, you get rewarded for so many squared up hits this year, and its so easy to pitch that you don't even need locate pitches. The best part is the good goods. I love hitting good goods and hoping to get a good hit. Definitely the best show game ever.

Nah sorry man, your thread seems like a weird brag more than anything. Look at the entire first sentence lol. Of course things are gonna run smoother & you’ll play better .. you’re going up against a watered-down player base. People have been saying plenty about the timing window issue. This isn’t really any bit of new information. More so, you’re updating everyone that you’re playing & winning in MLB 19.

Nah bro I'm including decent players that I've played last year too. Last year i took a huge step forward in my hitting only for 20 to push me back. I'm including facing watered down players and the decent ones I've slaughtered.

Except it was fine before patch 1.04. So they jacked the windows on purpose.

Maybe or maybe not. Could be a marketing strategy or a test to get players to get better through the struggle for next years game. Or could be something that haven't noticed.

It's been timing windows all year IMO, so I agree. How many times have you had a "perfect/perfect" that ends up going foul, then they change the contact results?

Hopefully they fix it, but I'm not holding my breath.

It depends if they can fix it cause of the pandemic. If they do we can enjoy having better hitting success for the rest of the year. Honestly I'll take SDS over EA or any sports gaming developing company because of how much effort thats already put into the game. Sometimes you can overperfect things. Sometimes we can be too impatient too and want things fast
