Same problem here. I sent in a support ticket and they are clueless how to fix it.
I've tried 4 new players all with same issue.

One thing I figured out. All those that froze were using a downloaded roster. 3 different ones. Hangs on each one.

I tried one using default roster and that issue never came up.

You do need you OVR up.
Do your perks, and very importantly, gear up your player. Gear makes a huge difference. I was at 80 OVR just after my first All Star Break.
