    Attributes not favoring power
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

Gonna say that much as IRL, The Show puts an emphasis more on 3 true outcome (HR / Walk / K) vs. small-ball tactics and fielding.

Though in '23 I played a fielding (speed) with power secondary in CF on beginner mode. Once my average skyrocketed to astronomical levels, the speed, boosted by diamond gear qualified me to be a leadoff hitter...

  • HR/Bat Slam Animations
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

There are one handed and two handed animations. Their use is based on swing (ie, I typically use swings that are one handed animations)

  • Pitching Attributes
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

Even last year when this was discovered, it was noticed that during a 2x period one could earn enough points to go from the approx. 1/3 bar to gain the attribute increase, primarily by spamming the desired pitch.

The bug is that you'd get to 1/3 of, say, 37, then get increased to, say 3/4, then instead of cresting you'd find yourself increasing to 1/3 again.

  • Attribute Increase Issues
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

Haven't tried a pticher yet, but reports are that the same issue as last year - once you get a pitch attribute (like 4SFB) to 36-37, it constantly "resets" unless you manage to earn enough plusses to fill the bar in one game.

Last year, I noticed stats like Base running aggression and stealing would reset to zero if you end a game "in the negative", even if the bar was one success away from 31.
That is happening again this year. 2B with steal at 30, but bar half filled. Got picked off. Then there was no bar. Got a successful jump on a 2-out steal, bar is around the 1/8th full mark.

I suspect that these two issues could be related.

  • Misgendered
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

    It's not just the gender.

I'm always a "she" during the leading in to the at-bat calls, and the recollections are always horrendously off.
"She" hit a grand slam in a game where "he" (I) have 3 RBI.
Sccoreboard shows 0 runs in the 5th inning, yet "she" hit a solo shot in the 5th...
Blah Blah happened in the 8th inning, we're playing the 7th.

  • Gender recognition incorrect
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

It's not just gender that's getting mangled here.

5th AB of a game, got commentary about "she" having a chance at a rare 5 HR game. With maybe 3 on the scorecard.

Hit an 8th inning HR. When coming up again in the 9th, Commenary about me was how "She" came through clutch with a grand slam. Had all of 3 RBI at that point.

  • Overall vs. being good at everything; to get called up
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

There is a hard cap during the first season. AA to AAA occurs right around (for me, right after) the All Star break, AAA to the Show typically first to mid August.

And I've had power hitters called up with below average fielding and I think average running. Perchance, a lot of that relies upon your position. Have a power hitting decent speed 2B who flew to the bigs, his OVR was greater than all the 2B for Cardinals...

  • Dynamic Difficulty
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

The "point" of Dynamic Difficulty is to get the game's difficulty setting to match the skill of the person wielding the controller, not to align the character to some "MLB average".

As you said / alluded to, your BABIP, a reflection of your ability to push the right button at the right time, and not do so at the wrong time, is such that the game believes it can make it harder for you to do so via an increase to legend difficulty.

The fact that your character keeps hitting soft fly balls is a reflection of his in game stats. Best way I have of illustrating this is via this story:

I play exclusively on beginner difficulty. On the game to have fun and a power trip, not to actually stress. When my character has a power rating in the low to mid 90s, I absolutely hate the game, because his rating is now "high enough" to consistently hit bombs out to the warning track, but not high enough to clear the fence. As he gets to around 97 power, the HR count starts going up and I hear a lot less of Singleton's "last AB he almost hit a home run" and Giambi mentioning the warning track...

  • RTTS Logic
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

RTTS has a major issue with it's stat progression. Arm Accuracy, Steal, Baserunning Agg., and maybe a couple of others have a tendency to reset it's growth bar all the way to zero progress if you end the game with a "regression", especially when still at "baseline" 30.
Individual Pitch Stats (the various Velo / Ctrl / Brk) have a tendency to start "resetting to 1/3-ish of a bar" once the stat hits 36 - and won't increase unless you earn enough bar in the game to get to the next point - which typically requires a 2x event going on and exclusive use of that pitch...

This is causing OVRs to be "depressed" compared to how they were in, say 22.

  • Forced to be a SP after hitting 40+ HRs
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

The RTTS "manager", heck, the entire system, is barely coded to "take advantage" of the full potential of two-way players.
    To wit:

    1. SP/XX (any fielding position) combos are all "you do nothing but pitch" on your designated rotation day, it does not take advantage of allowing you to hit in the same game you're pitching.
    2. I played a SS/CP myself. Even in the minors, it was "oh, this dude needs to pitch (soon). Start giving him days off till the team needs it's closer / he has to pitch due to too much 'layoff'". After that pitched inning, would go back into field until the "dude needs to pitch soon" logic caused this cycle to repeat.
    3. Honestly, I'm not sure how, or even if, the Ohtani Rule (pitcher can DH in same game) would work with relivers. Remembering that the DH "goes away" if you sub that player out of the lineup, once you "switch" from SS to pitcher, the game would have to either leave the starting DH in (preserving the spot but ending any chances for you to remain in the batting lineup) or "double switch" you to pitcher and have the "replacement SS" sub into the DH spot - killing the spot if the game goes extra innings.

Much ink (or is it many bytes in this world now) has been spilled (sent) on this, and the best anyone seems to have come up with is "who knows"...

All we can come to the consensus on is that the RTTS Managers (who set the lineups) have no clue on how to properly use the 2-way rule.

I think I accidentally invoked this in a game the other day but didn’t catch it until this thread. I had inadvertently left a position player on the mound and already had Shohei in the DH spot so I switched them as if it were a defensive swap (I want to say that I didn’t even have to honor the ‘3 batter faced’ minimum), and it worked. However there was some info that flashed on the screen explaining something but of course I didn’t read it.

I could be totally wrong as well…might’ve even dreamed it so don’t take my word on it (or anything for that matter) and perhaps someone else has got it figured out. Best of luck and would be interested to know if it’s something that’s worth pursuing.

I sense confusion here. Let me try to explain:

The DH is just that - a player Designated to Hit for the "pitcher's spot" in the lineup.

As such, if you do something to cause said player to need to be able to hit in-game, but not for the pitcher, like, oh, put him in as a defensive substitute, you "lose" the designation and the pitchers must take their at bats when their spot in the lineup shows up.

Also, since the DH rule was created, it has been an option. The Angels always had the opportunity to let Ohtani hit in the 'pitcher's spot" during his starts, however, since no player was designated to hit for the pitcher(s), they would be playing under the old pre-Covid NL rules about having the current pitcher have to bat, even after Ohtani left the game.

The Ohtani rule, in essense, allows the team to Designate their Starting Pitcher to be the one to hit in the "pitcher's spot" of the lineup, even after said pitcher is removed from the mound (and previously, game). Done by "slotting" said SP as the DH in the batting order.

Now, in your story, you "broke" the DH-ing when you put Ohtani (then-DH) into the field via your defensive swap - the man you had designated to hit for the pitchers now has to hit for his fielding position, so someone else (the pitchers) have to hit for the rest of the game...

Meanwhile, as broken_toy1 mentioned, the game's other modes - the ones in which the player sets the lineups, the Ohtani Rule plays perfectly.

Which then leads to my earlier comment - that the "RTTS Manager", who sets the lineups, has no clue on how/when to invoke the Ohtani Rule. At one point, per the "no gear included wheel" at the top of the lineup screen, my SP/1B had better RH Contact and nearly the same RH Power as the dude the game kept trotting out as the DH during my starts, yet even then the manager never slotted me as DH over him to "invoke" the Ohtani rule - though I'd replace him during the games just before and just after my start, when I was "mandated" to DH...

I am seeing something that I can’t figure out if it is my internet or the game..I go to swing and there is a rotation of the view and it freezes for a second and it makes my swing slow or off..is that natural? Never had this problem with any other version

My thought is that the game switches the camera from the "batting" view to the "focused on the back of the ball" view the literal millisecond you're making contact with the ball - and the "rotation" is the camera following the ball's momentum from "approaching home plate" to "getting out to the field"...

My guess is that it's not affecting the timing of the swing at all...

  • More Levels In RTTS
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

Gonna open with the "technical" issue: adding 50-ish x 30 players (stats, attributes, etc.) to the game full time for what is expected to be a "short" lead in is a lot of space being used on each save...

On that note, comparing the NFL who uses high school ball as a sort of AA and college ball as a AAA isn't exactly the best lead in to "this is why I want to spend time in the super-low minors"...

Also, even my first character in '23 here bereft of all the super perks, equipment, etc. had the attributes / OVR to be in AAA late may to early june, but doesn't get he call till Mid-July's All Star Break "for reasons". I'd hate to have near AAA stats in A-ball, when my goal is to play in the Bigs ASAP...

Though I, and I suspect many others, would agree: there's little to nothing but "maxxing out" and "filling achievements" to RTTS after that first / second season. If SDS wants to "make RTTS better", it's in the post-diamond third+ season that the content needs to be geared for...

Are you confusing stats with attributes?

Quite possibly. I apologize if I am not using the correct term. When I tried last in 21 (haven't played new since) I started with a player, but something happened, and I decided to start over with a one way player.

I created the new player it was not starting as a brand new player, and already had the gains to contact, vision, etc from my previous ball player.

When you highlight the Road to the Show button, there's a little "more options" marker that tells you which button (Y on Switch, thinking X on X-box) that brings up a few more options, such as starting a new RTTS or loading a previous one.

Every time I create a ballplayer, I use that "more options - new RTTS" combo to put him on his own path - stats, etc.

Though when I revisit an older player, I need to use that more options - load save to make sure I pull up that player's save instead of the "most recent / default" one.

  • Expiring Cards is absolutely ridiculous

@aware_ward13_PSN said in Expiring Cards is absolutely ridiculous:

    Nothing I posted was wrong

I won't attempt to argue the emotional aspect (the "I feel cheated" stuff)

    However:

If you look at 23's "set release / retirement" dates alongside 22's (and earlier) release of bigger OVR cards, you'll see an interesting parallel...

    Mid-may, 23: release set 2. 22: release 92 OVR.
Early June: 23: release set 3, retire set 1. 22: release 94 OVR.

Now, tell me, in 22, how many of your day-1 or even "set 1" 90 OVR cards would be useful (ie, not "handicapped stats") in this mid-may to early july window, and at all useful once the 94s come out???

This year, all my "set 1s" are still useful and at full (not handcapped compared to "set 2" cards) power right now, and I have the entire "set" to acquire enough set 2 high powered players to remain "competitive" before the "retirement" of the set 1s is enforced - and even then, I can bring a singular set 1 high powered player with me via the wild-card slot - and he will retain his entire power during set 3 and beyond - till the day the servers shut down.
Also, there will be events in which I can draw from my entire card pool, so I can pick any say, LF I own...

BTW, while it's on my mind, "content" in competitive PvP environments = actual people to play against. This system, with the increased "usefulness" of cards during "grind periods" (for those non-whales amongst the playerbase) = more "content" to play against...

Separate RTTS from DD. RTTS is the "live your ballplayer fantasy", while DD is "competitive". There seems to be too many "design blocks" put on the RTTS player to "fit him" into the competitive realm. Like inability to be a "true" 5-tool player.

Not only that, it makes RTTS a one shot only. You can't just create a new player when your first one is done. It takes all the attributes of your previous player if you start a new player.

Not only that, it encourages cheesers to make that 99 speed and bunting only and that is just not good in my opinion.

Are you confusing stats with attributes?

I made 2 SP/1Bs for BOS. One's a Control-Contact (me), the other's a Knuckle-Power (Alex Summers, aka Havok). As part of testing the ongoing glitchiness of the system I intentionally did this so I could load Alex into "my" original Control-Contact save, and pitched a game. He had all his knuckleballer attributes but the in-game (and roster screen stats, etc.) of the control person.
Sadly, his KN BRK "glitched" on the origianl save just as it does on his save.

  • Velo stuck on 36
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

I bullpen mini-gamed in a 2x break period (does the 2x apply to the "hit the bullseye" minigame?) well enough to spike my break (knuckleballer) stat to 37, where it is now "stuck" just like it was at 36.

Have not gotten to repeat the minigame to further test.

I want to say that this glitch affects all pitch stats, but it's usually a FB's VEL or everything else's BRK that hits the wall first.
I've only made 2 "pitchers" (both 2-ways) because of this glitch, so I've borderline given up on pitching in 23 till this is fixed. I also am attempting to test with the knuckleballer to see if having a game in which I throw enough pitches that get stat boosts to "crest" to the next point is going to bypass the problem, however, the new system has me barely at 1k/inning and shutting out teams on 70 pitches, not averaging 20Ks per game like I did in 22...

  • RTTS Pitchers in DD
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

Curious how many people are bringing over RTTS-created and statted-up pitchers this year...

And for those that have, what are you doing, just sticking with mid-30s on their individual pitch stats, and if you're consistently building them up high enough, what are you doing to get them there???

  • Suggestions for RTTS 2024
  • svpaladin_MLBTSS svpaladin_MLBTS

Repeatable post-diamond program that still awards perks, gear, stubs etc. I "discard" a lot of players within a season to a season and a half (finish diamond-level program) so that I can still earn stuff from new player's programs.

Separate RTTS from DD. RTTS is the "live your ballplayer fantasy", while DD is "competitive". There seems to be too many "design blocks" put on the RTTS player to "fit him" into the competitive realm. Like inability to be a "true" 5-tool player.

Better integration for 2 way players - both my SP/1Bs I've made this year have a higher OVR when "kitted out" to pitch than to bat/field. Heck, my knucksie/power 1B can improve his "hitting" OVR from a 75 to a 76 by swapping one of his power-hitter perks with a ptiching perk...

Better job with gear & stats. I get a little tired of looking at my player's "wheels" comparing them to other player's "wheels" and seeing that the game thinks I have, say, and 84 PWR vs righties, but when I'm in-game and at-bat, it's 109 from all his gear. Shouldn't most of my "in-game" stats be visible at all stages of the game (roster screens, etc.)? The only stats "not seeable" in this proposal are the ones from friendship.
