Before this thread gets locked and OP gets banned, I would like to share with everyone that my dog turned 4 years old yesterday *. Happy birthday, Eleanor!

Also, for a bit of a confessional: I am kinda into this really cute woman at work. Super smart, and the perfect mix of nerd and cool. (I will be a gentleman and not describe anything else that I like about her). Just throwing that into the ether before this thread is lost and gone forever.

Oh yeah! Through a long winding series of events that I won’t bore you with… I now am the proud roommate of a lizard. He goes by the name Dr Curt Connors, and he’s easily one of the top 5 lizards on the scene right now. He likes crickets and the occasional mealworm as a treat (which I have been calling his “lizzert”… like a lizard dessert… never mind). Dr. Connors likes to watch me play The Show, so that brings us back on topic.

(* Just for clarity’s sake, I don’t really know when Eleanor’s exact birthday is because I adopted her from a rescue. But the vet said she was about 10 months old, so I just added two months from the date I brought her home)

@AppleLemon560_MLBTS said in In praise of grinding:

If you put in a grind that takes two hours, that's like just giving everyone a free card. Another basically free card means less reward for the player who does all the programs, all the collections, all the content, etc.
    …..

The whole point of a grind is to put up a wall that makes a reward valuable -

I will never understand why some people care about what cards other people have and how much they do or don’t have to work in order to get them. I hate annoying internet-y lingo like “gatekeeping,” but it applies here.

We only get so much time on this earth. I don’t see why anyone would fritter away their precious moments by getting their wang in a pretzel because other people have virtual toys on a video game that’s only relevant for one year. There are plenty of real, serious, unavoidable reasons to get your wang in a pretzel. If anything, there are far too many pretzel-wanging problems, to be honest. But I’ll never pretzel my wang over a video game (or — even more absurd — getting pretzel wanged over somebody else’s video game!)

Let’s all just take a step back and de-pretzel our wangs.

  • Rules question
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

Quick baseball ruling question for the experts:

I’m at the plate, and the CPU airmails ball 4 about 10 feet out of the zone. Ball gets by the catcher and rolls into the dugout and out of play.

Shouldn’t my runner get 2nd base? My runner was only awarded 1st, which I don’t think is correct. As soon as I saw the ball squirm away, I even tried to direct my runner toward 2nd, but when the ball rolled into the dugout the game cut away to my next batter so I didn’t even have an opportunity to run. Is this an error in the game’s coding, or am I misunderstanding the rules?

ALSO… please give the D-backs some new cards. The new TN Lourdes is all well and good, but it’s just an upgrade over the Color Storm Lourdes. So we’re really not getting any new options for our team. Goldy and Gonzo both deserve awards or milestone or SS cards. Not really sure what the point of the “expansion teams program” was supposed to be, but that would have been a pretty logical place to drop some new cards for expansion teams. If I’m not mistaken, the Yankees have been given 9 (!!) new 98+ cards in the last two weeks alone. The snakes only have 1 card above 98 on the whole year. I understand that Arizona is the most storied and successful franchise in baseball history, so you want to show some love to less fortunate, bargain-basement teams like the Yankees. Your charitable spirit is indeed noble, but please don’t punish the snakes just for being so successful and for having so much [censored] appeal.

Give Joey Butthole a card too, and also Tyler's twin

More bullpen cards are always welcome.
Tyler is always super fun vs CPU

I would much rather get a commemorative program that leads to a 99 HoF Ryne Sandberg than have to grind against the CPU so I can get a New Threads Joey Butthole.

@jaychvz_XBL said in Programs that will probably never get added but I want to see:

@SchnauzerFace_MLBTS yeah but this would literally be the opposite of " pay to win" , this would be free content to us .
The only one paying is the sponsor . Sports has always been supported by sponsors . Sports used to be free on tv because of sponsorship.
Now i don't want the game to free because then you're beholden to the sponsor. But free content , win win in my book.

You have a much higher opinion of John Q Complainsalot than I do. If SDS mailed everyone 20 bucks, half of their player base would flock to twitter to complain about the way they folded the bill. Adding sponsors to a video game (which — correct me if I’m wrong — doesn’t happen terribly often) would drive most of their gamers up the wall.

  • Going to miss double XP and PXP
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

Between the double PXP and spending a week grinding through old Mini Seasons to help unlock Ted Williams, I managed to get almost a full lineup of D-backs to P5. I have Kayson Cunningham and Steve Finley in the mid 7000s, and Gabriel Moreno is just in the low 5000s. But other than that, all the position players, a few SPs, and a couple relievers are all at P5. Long live double PXP!

@jaychvz_XBL said in Programs that will probably never get added but I want to see:

None of your guys ideas bring in revenue, my idea brings revenue to spend on more legends .
The example i gave is have a sponsored program in conquest or mini seasons.
For example a program sponsored by Taco Bell where you can earn Albert Belle , Buddy Bell etc. They can create a cool Taco Bell themed stadium. Kinda like the bristol speedway stadium .
I just used Taco Bell as an example, obviously it could be any sponser.

I would hate this idea only for the backlash it would bring. Twitter (and to some extent, this forum) is filled with angry accusations of “pay to win” and only being after our wallets. If we started seeing Taco Bell sponsorships inside the game, the MLBTS community would erupt into chaos.

And I disagree — bringing in the Negro Leagues stars almost certainly increased sales and revenue. If they could market legit legends, it would absolutely bring in some fat cash.

@CHOMBONDO_PSN said in Programs that will probably never get added but I want to see:

Id like to see things like a dead ball era program, a juiced series would be awesome but MLB would never let them do it. There's enough guys they have the rights to to do a cycle program, an actual negro league program outside of storylines would be cool. There are so many cool things they could do.

A Deadball Era program would be amazing! Unfortunately, they’ve lost the rights to Lefty Grove, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Ty Cobb, and Rogers Hornsby all within the last few years. (And I think Jimmie Foxx might have come along at the tail end of the Deadball era or just slightly after it.)

Baseball is a sport that really values traditions and its own history. The Negro Leagues stars have been an invaluable addition to the game (despite my quibbles with how they’ve been used). I hope SDS continues to do their part to keep this game’s beautiful history alive.

I wouldn’t mind seriously contracting the number of “legends” if it meant we could get more Legends. No offense to these dudes, but the money spent on guys like Richie Sexson or Rich Aurilia or Ryan Klesko or Jason Isringhausen or Ryan Ludwick or Raul Ibanez (or so many of that tier) could be reallocated on one or two legit legends. Again, no disrespect to those guys — they were all fine ballplayers — and I know everybody is somebody’s favorite player… but there are so many “mid” legends who we wouldn’t really miss, and that money could go toward true, inner-circle legends and guys who are truly part of baseball’s history.

Anyway, I’m just griping. My summer vacation is almost over and I have to go back to work in a few days, so I’m just stamping my feet and throwing a tantrum.

    @SaveFarris_PSN
The second one was more focused on out of position stuff that actually happened rather than putting players in positions they never actually played in professional baseball. I see your point with the one about brawls, but the Crashout Program is just people getting mad, no actual violence

Ugh please don’t mention “out of position.” That was my least favorite program in the history of MLBTS.

  • Content isn't the issue. Gameplay is..
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

Offline is so wildly inconsistent. I can score 8-10 runs fairly easily in Mini Seasons, but I sometimes have to go into extra innings to score a single run in Conquest. Even Play vs CPU (which, in years past, was always a very consistent offline mode) has been weird this year. One game I’ll score 38 runs without even paying attention, and then I’ll struggle to score 6 runs with the same lineup.

The really weird thing is that I can usually tell after the first inning how a Play vs CPU game is going to go. It’s very rare for me to score 5 runs in the first and then go cold for the next 8, or for me to struggle in the first and then pick things up as it goes on. It’s like there’s something in the code that says “this game is going to be a slaughter, regardless of the input or card attributes,” or “this game is going to be a frustrating slog for 9 innings.” Very frustrating.

SDS really isn’t doing themselves any favors. It’s hard to refute accusations of “laziness” on their part when they have scaled back their community interaction by a ton. I remember back in 2019 they would do live streams all the time. They were long streams that felt well planned and intentional and entertaining. Now, we get pre-recorded garbage that feels super low effort. And the weird thing is that they put a bunch of money into that new studio a few years ago. And now it feels like they do fewer (and much lamer) streams after investing in a media studio. So weird.

  • Rest In Peace, Ryno
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

We’ve lost too many legends in the last few years. Very, very sad.

That’s a really sweet story about your mom after she beat cancer. I bet that was a wonderful memory for her and for your whole family. My dad just beat cancer (for the third time) and he and i celebrated by taking a trip to Cincinnati to catch a game. When you’re a true baseball fanatic, the game has a way of bringing families together and just being there when you need it.

I’m a Sox fan, but I always seem to hit well with Ryno so he is the only Cubbie who gets frequent reps on any of my teams. I hope SDS does something to honor his legacy.

I also want to complain about how slow CC’s windup is

Good Lord... I pulled the analog stick back, posted this message, then pushed the stick forward.

If you're just doing aimless CPU grinding, intentionally walk the first batter every inning and pitch from the stretch. Saves a ton of time over the long haul.

That’s what I did in the CC moment. I think I can avoid using CC altogether when completing the HoF program. I’ll have to check the math, but at the very least I can skip any CC stat grinds and substitute them with the repeatable Allen, Wagner, and Parker PXP missions.

  • Is it just me

If this is going to be the unofficial HOF Program Gripe Thread, then I also want to complain about how slow CC’s windup is. Once I finish this program then I’ll probably retire this card for good.

  • Now wait a second here…
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

[censored] Allen now has FOUR Phillies cards despite winning the MVP with the White Sox! Couldn’t they have at least made that 95 OVR a Sox card from his mvp season?!

(This is me in peak complaining mode. I’ve been asking for [censored] Allen to be added to the game since I started playing in 2019. Now we have an absolute maxed out monster version — AND he was just inducted to the Hall. I’m a very happy hippo. But, this is the internet, of course. And I think there’s some sort of law that says we have to act as if every single action is a calculated, malevolent, personal attack against us. So, this is me fulfilling that obligation for the day. Thank you, SDS, for adding [censored] Allen, making his 99 easy obtain, and for making it even easier for me to complain. This is a good day for Canada, and therefore the world.)

  • No "teasers" for the collection today?
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

YouTube video just dropped! Kinda vague on deets, but I think the big collection is Bautista. There is a program for Parker and CC. There is a different kind of collection I guess with Allen (w00t w00t!) and Wagner. And a new DQ with Carew (wohoooo!) and Cy Young (w00t w00t hooty hooooo!!)
