Now that we know cover athlete and some new legends...

@ShadowJake77_XBL said in Now that we know cover athlete and some new legends...:

Interesting no legend reveals to end streams like they use to.....seems like they don't want to drum up interest. No wow factor up to this point. Make you wonder if they are going to build up the momentum at all.

What a weird thing to say. “They don’t want to drum up interest.” Why would SDS not want to drum up interest for their major annual release? Why would this make you wonder if “they are going to build up the momentum at all?” I don’t understand what you’re trying to say here.

You may not care about Pujols, Hernandez, Posey, Camp, and Abbott, but I think a lot of people are excited about them. And those are the reveals BEFORE the legends trailer.

I’m interested. But I suppose that SDS would be furious that their ad campaign has drummed up interest, right? Or were you just saying words for the sake of saying words?

With opera, the is beautiful singing and instrumental music to listen to. With Bad Bunny, he's just chanting Spanish into a microphone. At the opera, you can understand what's going on without knowing the language, but with Spanish rap, you have no idea what's being said if you don't know Spanish

Seems like a lot of people were able to understand the story he was trying to tell just fine.

People have been going to the opera for centuries without understanding the language. Music is a universal language. Also… who cares?

  • No wonder this game can't move forward
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

I’m a million years old. I grew up playing Ken Griffey Jr’s Winning Run on SNES. To my eyes, these graphics are incredible. Not sure what people are expecting. Also, there is only so much you can do with changes/updates to the gameplay before it’s no longer a baseball game. They’ve added new modes, like mini seasons and diamond quest. There’s still RTTS, MtO, franchise, co-op. There are collections and the market and a million ways to enjoy the game. What else do people want?

I will be frustrated if 2026 still freezes up in the lineup screen the way it does in 2025. And I really hope we don’t lose too many legends. But beyond that, I’m happy with small, incremental changes each year.

People keep parroting this line about how we’re paying for a roster update. That’s silly, of course. But I’ll say this — I would be fine with paying $100 for a minor upgrade over 2025, because it’s the weekly (or even twice weekly) content updates that keep bringing me back. Again, I grew up on NES and SNES. You bought the game and that was it. No patches or updates or new content or bonus levels or anything like that. And even now, after 7 years of playing this game, I’m still floored by all the content we get AFTER buying the game. This is the only game I play from about March through December, and even still I usually can’t finish everything. There is so much cool stuff to work through, and I’m essentially an offline-only player. To me, it’s well worth the hundo for the hundreds of hours of enjoyment this game brings me. I’m sure we’ve all spent way more on leisure activities that brought us way less fun for far fewer hours.

Haters and fanboys — it’s time for all of us to unite as one! In fact, let’s all just wear one big shirt.

    🔳 Flip All Cards

I already do that, but it still takes too long and has too many frills. I’m 42. I’m an old man. I just want to be disappointed and move on with my life. I don’t need the scary flashing lights and sounds. And why is my controller moving on its own?? Where am I? Why is it cold in here? I once met Charlie Chaplin on a yacht with William Randolph Hearst.

That would be a nice change. A lot about the pack-opening process is slow and inefficient. I get that all the flashing lights and sound effects and vibrations and long, drawn-out animations are meant to be psychologically addicting to get us to buy more packs and stubs. But they should have a a checkbox for those of us who are NMS. it should just say “click this box if our tricks to separate you from your stubs are a waste of time and you’d prefer the super-fast, efficient pack-opening option.”

    I’ll be preordering!

What did you decide to play in the meantime

I was most interested in God of War and Ghost of Tsushima. They were both on sale in the PS store so I snagged them both. Started God of War over the weekend and that’s been really fun so far. But I am probably going to check it GoT tomorrow or Wednesday. I have some work to do before MLBTS26!

I’ll be preordering! Starting to get excited for the new installment. 2025 felt a little blah so I’m hoping 2026 is a step in the right direction.

  • In-between game recs?
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

Thank you! I’ve had Assassin’s Creed on my Amazon “saved” list for so long that I don’t even remember adding it. But I guess it appealed to me at some point!

I remember playing Red Dead Revolver about 20 years ago. Probably on the Xbox 360 I guess. The updated version looks cool! I will look into those — thank you!

    Hey there baseball bros!

I have officially finished every collection and every program (aside from Extreme), so it’s time for my annual month of non-MLB games. Aside from a brief stretch between new seasons, I really only play MLBTS. So I’m not plugged into the game community. Anyone have a good recommendation for PS5?

If it helps, I loved all of the Spider-man games, Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, and Hogwarts. Something I can finish in the next 6 weeks would be best. Once MLB26 comes out, I’m back to being a one-game bro.

    Thanks bros!

  • With the Cover out of the way, Let's start Speculating on the Lead Legend
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

Sandy Koufax, Carlton Fisk, Joe DiMaggio, or Roy Campanella would all be super exciting to me personally (though I suspect Fisk and Campanella probably wouldn’t be considered exciting “lead legends” to most people). I would also like to see the return of our dead ball stars (Cobb, Hornsby, Mathewson, Grove, Johnson, Foxx, etc).

Julio Franco and Albert Belle would make my Sox theme team look a bit more impressive.

  • How much longer till we get AI announcers?
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

Maybe that will be a PS6 thing. Obviously it’s not ready yet. But the advances it’s made in the last two or three years tells me it will probably be ready by 28 or 29

@Dolenz_PSN said in How much longer till we get AI announcers?:

AI commentary could possibly be much more varied than pre recorded lines but as someone who has messed around a lot with AI I can't see it being ready for prime time. The time it takes for AI to understand situations and respond accurately could be an issue.

Give it a few years. I remember when midjourney and DALL-E could barely scrape together a coherent image a couple years ago. Now look where we’re at. Type in a couple sentences to ChatGPT and within 10 seconds you have a very impressive photo generation. Things will continue to get better and faster. That’s why i said it won’t be ready in 26, but I can’t see it not being used within 5 years.

I have no idea who Mike Trico is, but I am impressed by your optimism.

  • How much longer till we get AI announcers?
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

I’m really not a fan of AI in the majority of cases, but there are some uses where it could be an asset. At some point, they’re definitely going to use AI announcers, right? I’m sure they can still make them sound like Boog or DeRosa or whoever. But that would eliminate the repetition, make the calls more game-specific and tailored to your progress, and hopefully be more accurate. They could also have real-time updates pulled from ESPN or something. It would be kind of cool if we logged in today and the commentators were talking about Bo Bichette signing with the Mets.

I doubt it’s coming in 26, but I would be seriously surprised if by, like, MLBTS30 they’re still using the same recording process.

    (In before “AI sLoP!!!”)

EDIT: also, they used to have my last name in the options for my RttS character, but then they took it away for some reason a few years ago. AI would open it up so all of our names would be available again.

  • How can we get our guys back SDS????
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

@Teak2112_MLBTS said in How can we get our guys back SDS????:

Stop using Nick Kurtz as an example. If SDS had hindsight into what an absurd rookie season he would have they wouldn't have given him the early cards.

But they certainly dropped the ball with legends this year. Not just the Sniders of the world, but the new legends as well. Where was a Royals Beltran card? Where was Reggie Sanders as anything but a Red?

And four [censored] Allen cards all on the Phillies. He won an MVP with the White Sox! We have scant few MVPs in Sox history. To quote the greatest philosopher of our time, “this aggression will not stand, man!”

  • How can we get our guys back SDS????
  • S SchnauzerFace_MLBTS

I would rather focus on quality than quantity. SDS always seems to add 3 or 4 guys each year who really don’t add anything to the game. I don’t mean to pick on this dude, but a guy like Rich Aurilia is just a big dud in terms of MLBTS. He was a fine ballplayer, but he doesn’t fit alongside Hall of Famers and superstars. Rather than add 3 or 4 players of that quality, just put that money toward one of the big dogs.

It seems like SDS has given up on the dead ball era players, which is such a bummer. In the last few years, we’ve lost Cobb, Hornsby, lefty grove, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Jimmie Foxx (not exactly a dead ball era guy, but close), and probably more who I’m forgetting. Baseball is a game that values its history and tradition. SDS actually plays a pretty big part in keeping that tradition alive for the younger generations. I think they’re really dropping the ball in a way. Kind of a bummer!

But I do applaud the effort they’re put into acquiring the Negro Leagues players — that’s been awesome. Now whether they’ve really done much with those players might be a different story… but I am very thankful to see them added to the roster of legends.
