    Stop complaining about servers
  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

The lack of self awareness is stunning,
Complaining about the amount of threads, yet gleeful about the creation of another useless thread to complain about the complaining.

Although I’m not surprised considering the initial take.
Yes, it’s not the end of the world, but it’s equally ridiculous to make excuses for a corporation that should have had the foresight to prepare for such a situation. And likely, did think of it, ran a cost analysis and decided “should be fine” was best to make the most money possible. Screw them.

I mean, the first reason you should be playing the game is because it’s fun.

The amount of people that seem to endure hours of tedious un-enjoyment, to unlock cards that they can use to go grind more tedious un-enjoyment, I’d rather disturbing.

If your sole reason for playing the game is a compulsion and addiction to completing reward paths and whatever extrinsic carrot SDS is dangling in front of your face, then you may want to reassess your situation.

And to clarify, this doesn’t mean you can’t be critical of the reward structures. I think it’s the “waste of time” that struck me and the amount of posts from people who seem to be spending hundreds of hours in something they don’t even enjoy and don’t seem to realize the game is designed to be manipulative, and it may literally be an unhealthy addiction for them.

  • Not a game anymore
  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

I still skew toward enjoying the game, but This is why when anyone says something along the lines of “it’s my money. Why do you care what u do with it” (that’s the kind version) they are invalid.
Every micro transaction purchased over the past decade, every whale that spends thousands has contributed to games losing features and modes, or having them hidden behind additional paywalls. They are the reason publishers prioritize grind over gameplay and retail games resemble a free to play model.
It’s the reason developers will keep moving the line on what’s deemed acceptable, because SDS will openly receive praise for what would have been deemed unacceptable 5 years ago because other developers are even worse now and people have completely forgot what normalcy is.

  • Why is this game so hated? Voice you complaints here.
  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

This year is less fun for me because it seems like every game plays completely different and there are games where pitch speed is just insane. I’m talking I could be on Veteran and very late on any fastball over 96. I can then go into practice mode and be early on the same fastballs on legendary...it makes no sense at times and it’s frustrating.

Instead of jacking up pitch speeds I really wish they kept those reasonable and just considerably shrunk the pci (and forced actual good contact) as a means to balance skill/difficulty.
At least to me that seems more reasonable considering the potential online issues....and the absurdity it every pitcher you face having a 95+ sinker or can magically throw 100+ every single pitch of a game as a starter.

  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

I can’t fathom the lunacy for someone to make excuses for a corporation in this manner. A corporation that I can just about guarantee ran a cost analysis for this very situation and decided upon “should be fine” to ensure the most profit, because they already have our money and even better for them, some individuals will even defend them in a situation like this.

And above all else, if my mentality leads more to pitchforks than understanding it’s because the way the situation is currently being handled. If SDS was being open and transparent I’d feel better about the situation.
It’s not hard to say, (x) is the issue, we’re trying (y), (z) is our reasonable expectation and time frame, we’ll let you know if it changes.
As it stands we’ve gotten a couple tweets that have been carefully worded to minimize the severity of the issue, while they are promoting DoubleXP weekend which seems like it has no chance of working.

You say entitled...I’m not sure you understand what that word means. I say discerning and intelligent, because I’m not sure how expecting a product you purchase to work would be considered looking for special treatment.

    @sandule said in Timing window:

This is something SDS need to address if possible!!! Most people don't buy a PS4 to hook up to a monitor. Having to buy a monitor just so you can play a game properly is ridiculous. Hopefully this is something the team can address next year.

I’m with you. I can understand if you’re talking about that too 5% type of player needing a monitor to compete on legendary or in the sponsored tournaments, but this year especially, it’s begun to feel for many like you need one just to compete in the bit above average range and to me that’s a design flaw.

“Crank up there pitch speed” really is about the laziest way to deal with hitting/difficulty. I’d much rather they do things like shrink the pci and actually reward contact within the pci to balance hitting and prioritize skill over just ramping up pitch speeds.

  • Just beat showdown extreme!
  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

There are a host of different bosses.
For instance, I have Feller instead of Sale.
I’m kind of paralyzed already to continue, My happy place at the moment is just knowing I have the chance to get through this with little agitation and frustration lol

@wingspan1985_psn said in Done with Showdown:

TA showdown missions are all rookie? I haven't even looked at them yet, but if that is the case I'll be grinding that tonight along with conquest..

Yeah, missions are pretty quick too and they cut a third off the Showdown (just one mini boss) so not only is it easy but it’s also shorter than last year,

There’s still occasional feeling of B.S., but I completed it every time I’ve tried so far. If anything, you can argue it’s lost the feeling and point of Showdown and just feels like busy work now...though not necessarily complaining because I’ll take that over wasting 2 hours with nothing to show.

What was that program? Just another normal player program for Babe Ruth?

You had to beat every real major league team on Hall of Fame in three Innings games with your squad. Do pretty much conquest without the stupid hexagons.

Oooo. That sounds fun. I would much rather do that than conquest.

It’s not fun at all. It’s the most soulless and joyless program in the game. It may surpass moments as the most banal content in the game.

Unlike Conquest, nothing counts in these games, it’s the equivalent of exhibition games. Nothing counts toward missions, no stats count, no innings toward TA...they are just 3, 6 and 9 inning moments and it’s lame. If it’s the same this year it’ll be even more frustrating since it wouldn’t count toward parallels either.

Maybe we’ll be lucky and that won’t be the case this year, in which case I’d take that back. But within the past format, I couldn’t even bring myself to complete it last year when there was always things more enjoyable to work toward.

  • Universal pitch speeds
  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

    Yes, yes, yes.

This has been my stance for a while, the skill gap should be dictated by pci placement and true outcomes rather than who is willing to buy a monitor and can time outlier.

Unlike the latter, I’d argue that pci placement can be practiced and improved upon. Especially if dealing with universal pitch speeds so you can actually get used to timing.

If also add things like actually needing correct timing to fall a ball off. Seriously, if someone is very late or early, that should be a swing and miss. Things like that would make up for the speed difference, it would make more pitchers useful, and I think it would keep a skill gap.

  • SDS response
  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

I can’t believe these (use your imagination) haven’t said more or given even a hint of contrition to the amount of progress that is being lost and time we’re wasting.

That frustrates me nearly as much as not being able to play...it’s offensive at this point.

  • No new event rewards?
  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

Wait what?!? This is 6 innings and quick counts?!?

I figure they’d learn their lesson after the first 6 inning one and the response...and the quick counts?!? I mean it’s not even real baseball, stats shouldn’t even count for this.
I’m pretty disappointed at the moment...

As for the actual topic. The reward structure was clear from the start. If you were a maniac who got 60 wins in a week that’s on you. Though, after what I typed above I wish I was more of a maniac and got some more wins lol

  • Why are Prestige cards tied to Online stats?
  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

I wouldn’t be opposed if it was at least double and stats had to be accumulated AS or higher, maybe even higher than that...

But I mean it is “prestige” which connotes respect and admiration from a great achievement...so it would make sense that would have to be done through competitive online play and there is no prestige that can come from grinding vs the CPU on lower levels (AS probably being included in a lower level)

  • Waste of time event
  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

It was an awful idea for an event to begin with. At least to me as someone who’a favorite part of Events is creating unique teams and using cards I may not normally use. Or having fun gimmicks you get to build a team around - under 25, all speed, etc etc
There were only a handful of cards available for this Event, so you’re either running into the same lineup/players every game or you don’t have the stubs/money to get those players and field a competitive team.
To me that’s the antithesis of fun and what these Events should signify...and that’s all before the fact that it’s on Hall of Fame.

  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

    Know what would be sweet?
If they started adding the occasional TA voucher to these maps.
Even if it’s just like a +4 AL and +4 NL it would be appreciated, especially since Showdown apparently is done with me defeating it and has turned into a complete nightmare.

  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

Your comment to me is borderline offensive in its delusion and naivety.
You’re literally feeling bad and making an excuse for someone that’s ranked 872 in a week and a half in ranked seasons?!? Someone that’s currently the top 1% of the top 1%.
You want to put that in context to the real world. It’s a billionaire standing in line and asking you to pay their bill because they don’t feel like reaching into their pocket.

You want to talk about what’s ruining society. It’s individuals that that form strong opinions regarding situations where they’re incapable of seeing beyond the most simplistic surface level.

First game I played in the new event was a guy saying “HR w/Walker and I quit.” He was the home team and gave me 6 homers in the first. I walked Walker and K’d the side with Orel. He beaned me and quit in the top of the 2nd. Love it!

People like you and OP are why there is so much hate and ill will in this world. Someone is humble enough to know they aren’t good enough to achieve certain things in life so they ask for help & you in turn feel the need to shame & humiliate them. Just remember this the next time you are in a bind in some walk of life and people refuse. And spare me the “it’s just a video game” line. This is a reflection of who you are period.

  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

I think it could have been cool if they had like Gold/Silver pitchers on All-Star. That may have provided an entirely different play experience.

As it stands, the trifecta of no power, any pitcher you want and on HOF seems about the stupidest combination possible and I’m honestly baffled by what it was hoping to accomplish. Change one of those three variables and it’s likely manageable, but as it stands I can’t see how this isn’t non-stop bunting or insufferable games where it’s difficult for the majority of the player base to get on base, much less a run.

  • Hard for me to have fun anymore....
  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

FWIW - I don’t think it’s likely mentioned enough, but to be great at this game takes skills or abilities which can’t be taught. Sure, with enough practice someone can always improve...but it’s difficult to teach yourself to have incredible eye sight, hand eye coordination, mental processing, etc etc.

I think it’s also important to try to keep some sort of perspective. If you frequent the reddit board you’d think “average” was being age least 700+ in RS. When the reality is the overwhelming majority are playing under that. So while it’s great to have goals and what to improve, so often you see the “how do I make ws” type posts and they tend to have little awareness that their basically asking how do I be the top “5-10” at something. I’m not sure if it’s just because it’s a “game” that gives the sense that anyone can do it, but I doubt there’s many other areas in life where people think they can get a few tips and go from competent to one of the best in the world in any other field/area.

Sorry, kind of going off on a bit of a rambling mess. Guess the overall point is the majority aren’t great - but it can still be fun, especially if you keep things in perspective...and if it isn’t fun, then the game probably isn’t worth obsessing over.

  • There is not enough XP rewarded across the board in this game
  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

I was a bit frustrated by the xp situation, but now I’m actually more annoyed by the, shut up it’s fine, low iq posts, as it’s not subjective...it’s been objectively proven in this post that it is an insane grind comparative to innings programs the past couple years.

Speaking for myself, I’ve played about 10 hours and am barely over 10% toward the boss. Sure, I should finish the conquest today, but 15k barely makes a dent.

Yes, they will release more content, but comparative to past years, the extra content was steadily released that made it so virtually anyone who plays the game a few times a week could feel like they can finish the program, within the current structure it feels like you’ll need those extra opportunities to reach it if you’re the type of person that plays a few hours a day. That’s a vast difference.

The one thing I would say though is I would not expect this to continue, SDS’ goal is to make anyone feel like they can reach the goal and they are continually making progress. It does no good for them if players get frustrated and casual players view the innings rewards as unobtainable, so I can’t fathom this was done by design. So either they throttled XP during the pre-release phase, or they entirely miscalculated and we’ll see increases to daily mission, moments, conquest etc in the near future,

  • rymflaherty_PSNR rymflaherty_PSN

@namtrah22_psn said in Game is Trash. Worst show ever made. Been slowly declining since 17.:

I really just want PCI to mean something especially on HOF it’s hard enough to make consistent good contact. Especially when you are facing Cliff Lee/Gavine/Burns... etc every single game. It’s really annoying when you’re in a pitchers duel and put a good timed swing with the ball in the pci but not dead center and its the same result as a early/late swing with the ball out of the PCI.

I also wish they focused on this to keep the skill gap as opposed to just ramping up pitch speeds.
Proper PCI placement is something that can be improved more so than dealing with the ridiculous outlier, I’d imagine for most. When “buy a monitor” becomes the most common suggestion for the majority to simply play the game on all-star thats garbage game design.
