None of it makes sense. They appear to randomly apply attributes. One of the greatest postseason performances of all time from Lou Gehrig, and his card doesnt even come close to reflecting that. Some player hits a walkoff on a random weekday regular season game, and his card is boosted to extreme levels. Its stupid.

I would appreciate hearing an explanation from SDS on this particular issue. It's been brought up countless times, and it's an appropriate question considering their marketing for the game and its "two way players".

@akhenaten1313 said in Ohtani not able to play OF:
When advertising the collection for Ohtani, it specifically states "two way all-star Shohei Ohtani." I think that seems like a good thing to talk about. For what it's worth, I have the cards for Shohei but haven't locked them in and have no intention of doing so until I see if Ohtani is needed for a collection down the road. Judging by early reviews, it seems likely that the community just dropped 500k (or more) on a trophy piece that will sit in their inventories. The HRD Ohtani is actually significantly more valuable...you know...because you can actually use him. Very disappointing.
Maybe the guy who is seeing a lawyer for not having internet can bring this up too.

I've never understood the hatred toward Showdown and I guess I never will.

They are live series low rated cards, who really cares? I have tons of these cards sitting in my collection from opening around 1000 packs over the past few weeks. If I really wanted to, I could put up 20+ of many of them at low prices for those that need them.
I guess i dont get the outrage over this. Even if, and that's a big if, the market is being manipulated by SDS, i dont see the low card prices as a negative. It gives everyone a better opportunity at more reasonable card prices, and therefore a better chance at completing collections.

So this will be similar to the Tatis "unwritten rules" boost from last year? His FotF card was boosted to a 99 for a period of time.

FIFA easily. It's designed for players to get upset and spend money on their team. Its the only game that made me throw things, something I'm not proud to admit.

Your rationale is old school thinking. It's what got Bob Welch a Cy Young award in 1990 instead of Roger Clemens. Welch won because he led the league in wins with a 27-6 record. Clemens was 21-6, but had a 10.4 WAR vs 2.9 for Welch. Clemens roasted him in every category except for wins. It means the Rocket was a MUCH better pitcher than Bob Welch that season, even though the CY voting didnt reflect that.

Whoever makes these decisions needs to be replaced. This year's content has been lackluster to say the least.. Even if they drop Pedro and Babe this inning it will still not be enough. I would guess 1% of the MLBTS players will ever use that Kemp. There's so many top players people are still waiting for that this feels like a bit of a troll.
The 6th inning bosses last year were Rollins, Musial, and Maddux. The Community expecting every inning boss to be the best card in the game is the problem, not the content team
Maddux is among best pitchers of all time, same as Pedro.
Musial is among best hitters of all time, obviously short of Ruth but at least somewhat comparable.
Rollins more than doubles Kemp in WAR.Kemp is an outlier for sure among those 6 players. It's like including Longoria in that collection last year with Hoffman, Seaver, and Ruth.

I'm sad I missed out on this Babe Ruth debate earlier. Some of the takes in here are laughable.
Babe Ruth completely revolutionized the game. To go from 138 career HRs to top the leaderboards to 714, entirely because of one players ability is insane. The previous record by Roger Connor stood for 14 years before Babe obliterated it. The year Ruth hit his last HR, Gehrig was second all time with 378. That should explain how much he stood out. He did this while averaging .342 for his career.
"He did it against plumbers/janitors"
Why couldn't anyone else even come close then? Why would it take nearly 40 years for another all time great to break the record? Some of you are fixated on what would happen if player X played right now after showing up in a time machine. This isnt about who's more athletic. It's about who is so far advanced beyond their contemporaries, that you cannot dispute their greatness. WAR measures this in ways that traditional statistics cannot.
Ohtani is a very good/great player, no doubt, but he isnt in Ruth's realm.

So about 1 in 3 future star cards pan out or exceed expectations.
Thats actually not that bad in reality
Ok. So if that's where we are at, why not have insanely juiced HOF cards too? Instead of some unrealistic projection of what a player that never played in the majors could be in three years, let's have a "what if Babe Ruth had 96 speed" card. What if Keith Hernandez never did cocaine card. Orlando Hernandez throwing from 15 different arm slots, but now he throws screwballs that break like a slider.
Let's just max out every single card so people never have to worry about DiVeRsItY ever again. Trevor Hoffman throwing 102 mph sinkers, Ted Williams as a switch hitter. Topps Now and Future Stars arent too far from that ridiculousness. I guess we should embrace it, max out every single card, and now everyone can have whatever lineup they want with no limitations.

I do it first thing after taking over empty territories. I usually steal however many the goal requires at once.

We all know the main names that are in the Mitchell report, and those most suspected of PEDs. It still doesnt make sense to me that they have been blackballed while others have been inducted. Biggio, Bagwell, Pudge, Piazza. They have known and admitted amphetamine users in, as well as known and admitted cocaine users.
At this point its strictly being vindictive against certain players, while turning a blind eye towards others.
-
That's just how people are. It's also why I turned off messages from non friends.

SDS sells stubs, which is currency for both packs and buying cards, they dont have the same lootbox issue that EA does. Because if you buy FIFA points, they can only be used to purchase packs, so that is why they have problems with the lootbox laws in various countries. That is why they are doing the preview packs, and why it would be unnecessary on The Show.
-
Maybe I'm missing your point, but that's a lot of hittable pitches.

@eccentrictexas6_xbl said in Number of questions about DD mechanics:
I only have a question about the inner and outer pci. I'm under the assumption that the inner pci is the contact point and that the outer pci represents the actual vision of the batter up at the time? Been playing since 14, so I may just be ill informed, but that's where I'm at, which actually leads me to the real questions:
How can someone, including myself, hit a no doubt home run when the ball is not even in the contact point of the pci? Secondly, if someone fouls off a pitch which is actually out of the vision section of the pci, how can this happen? They clearly didn't see the ball properly.
Is the swing feedback that we are seeing on the screen actually correct, or is it wrong? Is it just a guesstimate?
I have wondered this one myself. Many times vs CPU, I will throw a pitch up and in, with the batter fouling it off and the feedback shows he swung down and away. The fouled pitch is at least the equivalent of 6-8 baseballs outside of the outer PCI. At that point, the feedback has to be wrong, because how is the CPU fouling a pitch off like that when they missed it by nearly the entire length of the strike zone?
-
Matt Kemp for an early inning boss...ok.
Matt Kemp for a 6th inning boss...weak. -
Wrong uniforms on teams when playing at home vs CPU. Rangers shouldnt be wearing white uniforms away.
-
So they make Trevor Hoffman, who held the saves record, is in the HOF, and the stream team even admitted is one of the best relief pitchers ever, a 97? Those future stars even got better ratings. Garbage
Topps Now Yoshi Tsutsugo has more power against righties than 500 HR Miggy 🤡
