This just happened to me a few days ago. So I started a new one to see if when I saved it, could at least try the other. Guess what happened? My old franchise save disappeared. Went to Reddit and found this is happening to ALOT of people (my son included) and SDS has done nothing about it. Most common advice is to double save your franchise. By all accounts when this happens your franchise is GONE.
