MLB The Show Needs a “The Yard” Style Mode: Sandlot

I’ve been thinking about a new game mode that could bring a completely different experience to MLB The Show.

Imagine a mode called Sandlot.

Instead of traditional 9-inning baseball, Sandlot would be a fast-paced, arcade-style multiplayer mode where you create your own player and team up with friends.

3v3, 5v5, and 7v7 games

Custom ballplayers with progression and unlockables

Unique locations instead of MLB stadiums:

Why This Would Work

MLB The Show already has great simulation baseball.

Overview

Diamond Clubs is a new online multiplayer mode inspired by the team-based progression and social experience that has made club-based sports gaming extremely successful.

Players create and develop a single custom ballplayer and join a persistent club with friends. Each user controls only their own player during games, creating a true team experience where every at-bat, pitch, defensive play, and base-running decision matters.

Create Your Ballplayer

• Start as a prospect with an overall rating of 60.
• Progress through gameplay and achievements.
• Customize appearance, equipment, animations, and archetypes.

Club System

• Create or join a club.
• Up to 9 human-controlled players on the field.
• Remaining positions filled by AI when necessary.
• Club leaders manage uniforms, logos, and stadium customization.

Position-Based Gameplay

• Pitchers control every pitch.
• Catchers call games and manage runners.
• Infielders and outfielders control all defensive actions.
