Speaking only for myself, of course (and this applies equally to the other game I play, FIFA)

    1. I can get up to help my wife with something/answer the phone/walk the dog/feed the cat any time I want
    2. I never have to have the latest/greatest cards, the cards I have are always good enough to have fun
    3. I spend the extra $100/whatever it is now for PS+ on anything else I want

I used to play BR (the only thing I played online) the last few years, and quite frankly, I'm not sure I need strangers telling me that I suck and I should kill myself in my life. Maybe that's just me, though.

Another W by SDS. July All-star month going to be fire

It's strangely fitting that you put as much effort into your copy-paste posts as SDS puts into their copy-paste content.

  • Jackie Robinson day program?!
  • energystar157_PSNE energystar157_PSN

@romeischillin said in Jackie Robinson day program?!:

They just post an update - https://theshow.com/news/mlb-the-show-23-jackie-robinson-day-celebration/

Jackie Robinson from Storylines will be Supercharged - the 90 OVR (Primary SS) Sanford Green Series card.

Looks like Blind_Bleeder beat me to it... will also have a pack for $4.99 but that's just a profile icon, banner and 3 bat skins but the proceeds go to the Jackie Robinson Foundation for those that want to donate (which I most likely will).

You also get 5,000 stubs which I was unaware of initially.

Be careful about that. Sony is keeping about 30% of the 5 bucks for "fees" (only about 3.49 actually goes to the JRF). That's a horrible overhead ratio for a charity. For comparison, the JRF's overhead ratio is about 6%. You're probably better off giving the 5 bucks directly to JRF and getting the tax deduction.

Sorry for the nitpick, but I hate charity scams disguised as profit-taking.

  • New Ringing Bell Conquest Map
  • energystar157_PSNE energystar157_PSN

Just saw the teaser for the new conquest map releasing tomorrow. I was happy to see that you only start with 13 fans, so I trust that means no "Capture the Pirates stronghold on Turn 1" type missions. I really hate those because I don't like to be told how to play. The game is a lot more fun (for me, anyway) when there are multiple paths to accomplish the goal.

It's my biggest peeve with the POTM and other programs this year. They're strictly linear with no flexibility for completing them. Get this player, grind these missions, get next player, grind these missions, do showdown, get new player grind more missions. Didn't used to be this way, but I guess this is easier on the developers and folks that invent the programs.

Right from the terms of service at https://theshow.com/mlb-the-show-online-code-of-conduct/

You may not cheat, exploit or use any bugs, glitches, vulnerabilities or unintentional game mechanics in PlayStation Network or any of its products or services to obtain an unfair advantage.

They probably won't ban anyone for this, but you never know. Just fair warning.
I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but don't want anyone to get hurt, either.

  • Mini season disconnect
  • energystar157_PSNE energystar157_PSN

Full disclosure, I just lost a mini-season final to disconnects (two of theirs, one of mine), so there's some rant here.

But, there really should be some way to manage this without a heroic programming effort.

First, we know that the code knows the source of the disconnect because it penalizes the person who disconnects in on-line events. So, if you don't initiate the disconnect vs CPU (i.e. SDS servers go down), the program should simply treat the game a no-contest instead of a loss.

However, we also know that the game maintains win probability states. My internet dropped with a 5-1 lead, no one on, and 1 out in the bottom of the third. I probably had a 95% chance to win and would not have disconnected on purpose. So, if the disconnect comes from my end, but my win probability is greater than 80% or so, treat the game as no-contest. I know you can't award the win because that opens the system to all sorts of abuse, but it should at least not count as a loss.

This is a huge source of frustration, but it shouldn't have to be.

  • Take Notes SDS
  • energystar157_PSNE energystar157_PSN

There are currently twice as many PS4s as PS5s, and more than twice as many XBox Ones as XBox X/Ss. There's no way you throw away 2/3rds of your potential audience for a niche game. And more than that, if the Switch can't run it. Realistically, how many people with a PS5 that don't currently own MLBTS would say "Wow, I've never been a fan of baseball games, but this gameplay is amazing. I'll get it right now." I mean what, 100? 1000? And you lose the games you're selling to 120 million PS4s?

Sorry, but new gen MLBTS is a pipe dream. Not to mention that they probably canned most of the people that could actually code it back in March.

  • Update 7 Patch Notes
  • energystar157_PSNE energystar157_PSN

I guess I'm in the minority, but I thought that fielders diving way early and then just lying there as the ball falls into their glove was hilarious. It always reminds me of Smalls' first catch.

But it's good to know that they fixed the transactions log, but not mini-seasons server error. Nice that they have their priorities straight.

  • Extreme Done!
  • energystar157_PSNE energystar157_PSN

I broke down and tried the conquest this weekend because it's my favorite mode. After 4 tries I shocked myself and beat the Rockies. Blind pigs and truffles and all that. Then I played the Padres. Lost, but I can try again right? Nope. Padres proceed to take my Rockies stronghold and my starting stronghold. Game Over. Really? You have to take all 5 without losing any games? I know the program isn't meant for me anyway but now I really know.

  • It's Been One Week
  • energystar157_PSNE energystar157_PSN

This is going to be long-winded, but I promise I have a point.

I've been playing for a week. I completed the Starter and Breakout Programs and NLE TA. ALE, ALC, and NLC TA are all 25-35% done. West TAs about 8%. I've completed the East and Central Conquest maps, and am halfway through West.

    I have 80k XP.

With roughly 11 1/2 weeks left in the Season, at this rate I'll get the first boss just in time to not be able to use him.

Yes, I know that they'll throw in 2 double XP weekends, so I'll get him with a week to spare, but in the stream they said they anticipate most folks getting the first boss in mid-May. I don't think I'm that far below the median player and I just don't see it.

I know that we should be used to SDS telling us things without having actually tried it for themselves (playing on Switch, playing the CPU on Rookie and checking the ball/strike ratio, playing a mini-season), but I'm not sure they realize how frustrating it is.

Thanks for all the input, folks. I not only feel a bit better about the game, but from all the "One Week" references, I feel a lot better with the reminder that I'm not the only old person here.

  • Yet Another Game “Update” That Doesn’t Address Actual Issues
  • energystar157_PSNE energystar157_PSN

@Loyal-Wiglaf said in Yet Another Game “Update” That Doesn’t Address Actual Issues:

Balanced view half #1: They almost certainly are working on several things on your list and will release a gameplay fix sometime in the (near?) future, and we should assume this.

Balanced view half #2: SDS's unwillingness to communicate anything substantive about these issues to their community is disgusting, and they deserve to get roasted about this.

On #1, I'd like to believe so, but I can't. The SIE layoffs really hit this game hard, I think.

We already know that no developer actually played even an inning against the CPU on Vet or Rookie before releasing the game, or the "every pitcher throws like Eric Plunk on acid" problem would have been obvious. We also know that no one actually played a game at the Cairo Cats stadium. The Switch issues should have been obvious to anyone who even tried to play.

No, I think that this is the game we're going to get. I'll still play because it's still fun, but not because I'm expecting anything to change.

    I hope I'm wrong.

  • Roster Update
  • energystar157_PSNE energystar157_PSN

Its a legitimate question, though, as they've already deviated from any of their posted guidelines that you referenced.

They skipped 2 Fridays for roster adds and didn't do a ratings adjustment for more than a month. If they stick to the posted timelines (and the one they stated in the survey) then it should be next Friday.

But until they actually announce it, I wouldn't count on it. And I think OP is justified in asking if anyone knows for sure.

  • What to expect in season 2?
  • energystar157_PSNE energystar157_PSN

First and foremost, you won't lose your cards. They'll still be in your binder. You just won't be able to use them for anything that requires S2 eligible cards (which will be Core and S2). You will get Wild Card slots where you can use any card, but we have no idea how that will work, exactly.

So in the beginning, you'll be back to using Core cards and the new S2 Cornerstone Captain until you can build up a group of S2 cards to use.
