    Why give games to newbies
  • E eelnirad_anglo

Why does the RNG (or however you want to refer to the artificial code that splatters often misleading (fake) animation on your screen) feel obliged to give games away to new players..or just ppl that are terrible...have terrible lineups...at the expense of the rest of us? I use the word terrible, but you could say they blow, are unlearned, new, slow, whatever.

Do we deserve this stupid [censored]? We laid down our bucks for this game. We play these modes to win...not to lose. Play a lot, grind away to get better. Why code your game so those of us that really care (or used to)..lose to those that really don't? Why cheat us out of our money? And, that's the way I look at it. Swindling the customer with good intentions...with bad code that, I assume, is intentionally creating parity in the game.

When the RNG completely turns a game..putting any pitfalls it can in the path of a player/customer that deserves to win the game...it's the same as cheating the customer. The game is a mockery of MLB quite often.

Why can't we talk about important subjects like this instead of how great some new challenge is that give you yet another card that really makes no difference in this game?

Is discussing the failures of the game, in hopes somebody out there in SDS land can reinvent it so the customer doesn't get stressed and write scathing posts like this, not a worthy point of discussion?

I can tell you why...this forum is all about creating a false illusion that the game is a competition...not the RNG controlled charade it is.

  • Predetermined losses?
  • E eelnirad_anglo

    @nymets1987 said in Predetermined losses?:

Is this real thing? Played a guy with all golds and I have 99s everywhere and he hits all homers to win the game and I have to claw to get enough runs to keep up.

This is why I quit playing RS weeks ago. It's not a competition...it's exactly as you described.

You can win with a team of silvers...to a team of diamonds. You can lose with a team of diamonds to a team of silvers. There is no value put on cards.. This, imo, invalidates the whole essence of the label "Diamond Dynasty". Having all Diamonds, in fact, means nothing. Cards mean nothing. Skill means pretty much nothing.

    Waste of time.

  • What are you expectations for MLB The Show 21 PS5 version
  • E eelnirad_anglo

Another AI randomly generated animation game that strives to "make it excitin'" at the expense of any true consideration to actual simulation or realistic gameplay/outcomes.

But, I'm sure it will be pretty! Perhaps even additional beautiful animation and dynamic play that seldom matches the actual controller input.

I agree with one positive note. It is the cheapest "pay to play". Maybe a reason for that.

  • Now I remember why I left this game
  • E eelnirad_anglo

@eatyum said in Now I remember why I left this game:

There were 6 perfects in the game between you and your opponent.

Two did go for outs, but only one was in the 8th inning, which was the one you hit with Dwight Evans, Corey Seager also hit one for an out in the 7th.

Though it's weird, it says Posada hit a home run on one in the 8th, but it doesn't show, so I'm going to assume he actually just out.

Even so, why stretch the truth a bit? That would mean you did hit 3 in the game, (Which is ridiculous I'll grant you that), but it wasn't three perfects in the 8th inning. Just tell it like it is

Who in the world goes out and researches someone's rant in an attempt to disprove some minor detail, and then points out the OP was "stretching the truth". Then try to break the post down into some realm of plausibility.

I can tell you who. Someone that has a serious agenda to support a narrative that this game is anything but an RNG.

And, that's ok. But, c'mon, whether it's someone that works for SDS or has a reason to support the game...wouldn't it be better to just ignore the posts that, for the most part, speak the truth about the game. Other than attacking the integrity, reasoning, eyesight, etc of the poster.

You would have to be 9, or very gullible and older, to not understand that MLB the Show is an RNG. The AI dictates the outcome. But, we still have fun with it.

But it's a bummer when ppl try to insult your intelligence by suggesting you're mistaken, lying, "stretching the truth" when you point out the obvious. Whole gang jumps on you with the "conspiracy" or "you're just bad" posts. The weakest is "Well, so-and-so is really good at it so it has to be genuine".

There are no good and bad players in an RNG..there is the AI that, often, determines the outcome. When the code is flowing well and the AI control is subtle and plausible..it's a whole lot of fun.

It's a lot easier to ignore the RNG when you're on the winning side of the randomizer. When you lose it just screams at you.

And, that's what it is. But, I've only been playing for a few weeks so may be mistaken.

  • Ji-man Choi Korean Killer
  • E eelnirad_anglo

This guy is by FAR the most consistent hitter on my team. Leads in just about every offensive category. Makes Rogers Hornsby seem like a minor leaguer. In fact, Hornsby hasn't went yard in 26 AB. Choi averaging .400 with a HR every 7.6 AB.

I guess, to be honest, Hornsby has been a dud relative to his 99 rating and all they hype. Choi just rakes.

@XxDeathReyxX said in Why give games to newbies:

It’s only cheating one customer at a time. The other guy is fine with winning.

Does that mean 50% get cheated and 50% don't? Guess there is a point there.

Let's not call it cheating then....let's just call it SDS isn't capable of creating a sports simulation so they've created a randomized MLB animation generator that intentionally weighs and distributes wins/losses based on some "study/analysis" they've done that best keeps the majority immersed.

And let's call this forum much the same. Bunch of posts created to manipulate folks into chasing challenges, cards, etc. Anything to create the illusion that this game is a competition.

And, that's fine. I don't blame the marketing team for that. Floating that concept to the gullible keeps them coming back and buying the game.

  • Why this game is ridiculous
  • E eelnirad_anglo

The game isn't necessarily good or bad. State of the art replication of MLB physics and animation. For that the whole development team deserves highest marks.

But, it's not a simulation. Everything in the game is controlled by code. Anyone that plays the game a lot, and is honest with no agenda can pick out a dozen or so different "tendencies" in the code that underscore the fact it's code driven...not player driven.

IMO, from my limited time playing..it works like this. Any ball thrown in the strike (or near it) and swing of the bat is then "analyzed" (loose statement that) by the code. It then paints an animation completely, I mean completely, in line with how it (the AI) has decided the outcome will be. I've seen it all.and I'm sure not a percentage as much as you guys that have played hundreds of hours.

Fast-balls, that is certain situations, are completely unhittable (very late..too late). In other situations (same game..same pitcher) you swing "very early" on. Fast balls that head into the zone with a trajectory that you know (from seeing 1000's of these pitches) is going to be outside, you don't swing, and you can actually see that fast-ball just "put on the brakes" and stop to record a strike-out. Curve balls and change ups that drop more than is physically possible.

But, the biggest problem I have with the fake animation is the majority of the time my swing (where my swing placement should be based on how I moved my controller) is off inches, sometimes feet, sometimes I'll drop my swing down on one of those low changeups and it will show my swing as if I went up in the zone,..sometimes I won't even move my controller and it will show my pci shift just enough to justify a swung through or whatever silly message is thrown up the make you believe you missed.

Pitche/swing are nothing but smoke and mirrors. The vibration, the result "very-late", "very-early", "he popped-it-up" is nothing more than the code making a decision long before the swing is completed what the result will be. It's the only method the developers have of presenting a pretty game, is to take complete control of the controller input and start generating animation based on what is best (who needs to win based on whatever keeps ppl coming back).

You play the game knowing it doesn't matter if you are good or bad. Whether you're loaded with diamond players or silver players.. Doesn't matter if you've pumped 600 hours into RS and playing someone that's on their first. You might win..you might lose. All dependent on the ride the AI decides to take you on. It is what it is.

  • Who should I pick from the choice pack?
  • E eelnirad_anglo

They are all over-the-moon good. It's like picking between Megan Fox, Jessica Alba, and Kate Upton. You would enjoy each of them.
The all have special qualities you could spend some hours with.

    Rock on my friend.

  • I really need help. I can't win in RS or Events.
  • E eelnirad_anglo

I don't believe you're alone. And, don't automatically blame it on yourself. Just sounds like another day at the RS ranch.

Not trying to make light of it but..to reiterate. I suspect yours is the same situation as the majority. Highs and lows..but mostly parity. If you discover the secret of "getting better" at an RNG game let me know. I would be more than happy to follow your lead.

  • Which is worse
  • E eelnirad_anglo

What is the biggest indictment on the phony in this game? No offense, but RNG's tend to be very obvious in their method sometimes.

Is it when your opponent appears to get gopher balls thrown right down the middle of PCI when you know you through a perfect pitch on outside the zone. Of course said opponent hits it out of the park for often the only run score in the game. Makes for real excitement there.

Or is it when you check-up on a pitch and blast it out of the park yourself and the PCI shows the ball coming in the zone no where close to where you swung? Said opponent then "rage quits" because they are likely sick of the same repetitive recipe.

I say it's when I get the lucky slot-pull and the AI animates a homerun that wins me the game. A ball I know I didn't come close to swinging at with hard contact. That, unequivocally, authenticates to me it's not about controller or player input...it's about the script.

Again, no offense, just polling the audience. Please don't bully me for my heartfelt sharing.

@lazy_toast said in Which is worse:

yea im noticing these animations more often. Even to my advantage sometimes. But man still does not stack up to maddens animations. Thats all the game is, ANIMATIONS

That's why I haven't bought a copy of Madden since 2017. It took me a couple years to realize just how broke online game "simulations" truly are.

I remember grinding for that super-stud offensive lineman that would open up gaping holes for my RB's. Put them in that hole, run behind them, and get stuffed worse than before I spent countless hours trying to pick him up in some goofy marathon challenge.

Maybe the worst part of the "Diamond-Dynasty", Franchise, and FIFA Ultimate Team scheme is the whole concept is to grind for the perfect highest-rated players...and they don't perform any better than what you had in the beginning. Ironic.

just got done with a guy that had 1 hit through 5, the pitcher gets a hit, the next batter gets a chopper down the 3b line that he beats out. the next one grounds to 1B, 1B doesn't run to touch bag...just stands there...next batter...Grand Slam. Granted i was sucking a$$ too, but come on man!

Yeah, I don't know how many games I've played where the opponent's pitcher get the winning hit. Sometimes on a homerun.

Regardless, almost always when that pitcher gets a hit you can kiss the game goodbye. Playing against a lineup of high Diamond Players and the pitcher with a 10 contact rating is the offensive hero.

That is where you get reminded that this game can be a complete farce.

  • What’s up with the guys that pause 45 times a game?

  • You were successful
  • E eelnirad_anglo

SDS, I'm not sure whether you got rogue associates that have any sort of influence on dictating individual game outcomes. Perhaps what I'm going to mention is just another example of your terrible attempt at trying to create a "real-life" gaming experience for your customers. If so, I can see why many aren't repeat customers.

Anyway, regardless I once again lost to a terrible team. Oh, am I saying I'm not the terrible one? No, I'm saying this game doesn't reward or exploit one way or the other. No one can ever know whether they are good or bad because this game has no barometer. No scale as to the relevance of bronze or diamond players. Really doesn't matter because that's not a factor in this game. Just as skill is not a factor in this game.

So, yeah..last game I'm losing 1-0 to a team of much inferior cards (let's put it that way). In most instances i'll swing at a fast-ball and not touch it. But, in about 1/3 I'm early. How does that even figure? It really doesn't. I bring in Rivera who I've spent a whole lot of hours trying to attain. In the 9th inning which I really shouldn't have hung around until..knowing this particular script quite well. Rivera can't record an out. Everyone that was faliling earlier was hammering Rivera. First time I use him. THIS GD CARD i'VE SPENT THE LAST WEEK CHASING.

You can all [censored] off. The game is a [censored]-show. And, yep boys, this is pure [censored] rage. And it cost you a customer. You've got millions more I'm sure.

  • Looks like people will be coming back to The Show

@allmustfall16 said in Looks like people will be coming back to The Show:

I’m a sports game junkie. Even usually buy 2k and spend too much time in MyTeam. With that being said, I haven’t played Madden since 2017.

Zero desire to touch it. And this is coming from a guy who played Madden since the 90s.

Madden is complete trash. Going that route with 2k now too. While 2k is a pretty good game, their MyTeam setup is criminal.

The reason I stand behind SDS is they are the only ones that still try to do right and it’s not all about the money.

The Show is also a lot better than some of the posts on here make it out to be. If you practice you will get better.

And I haven't played Madden since 2016. If you mean trash..in that it's not a simulation but an RNG (or whatever term you want to hang on a game that is decided by code..not skill) I would agree with you.

But this game is no different. It's not a skills-based simulation. Neither is FIFA.

The other point I would agree with you on is, of the 3, The Show is much less prone to soliciting additional revenues through "loot boxes". I will give SDS that much.

Maybe it's because the online gameplay is just so over-the-top RNG their conscience keep them a little more grounded and ethical in that department.

  • No Difference
  • E eelnirad_anglo

There really isn't any difference between difficulty levels in Conquest. What's the point of having levels when they overlap? Help? I'm trying to get through my first map and regardless of the level the computer is scoring just enough runs to win.

If there isn't any difference...shouldn't the game just have one difficulty level? Otherwise it seems like a player would experience a different result. But, that's not the case.

  • No Difference
  • E eelnirad_anglo

Isn't their 5 levels? Rookie to legend. I've played on Rookie and couldn't get a run several times. Just double plays and stuff arbitrarily happen to kill any chance. And the computer always manages to scratch out a single run to win.

I've played on HoF and scored 4 runs and no-hit the computer. Shouldn't there be a consistency of some sort?

Most games I've played when you're going at the most basic level everything is a breeze. But, if you're going on much higher levels it's much harder. This game doesn't seem to do any of that.

It just seems arbitrary. If I play on any level, doesn't seem to matter, lose 2 games I'll win the third. I'll lose the 2 games 1-0, then suddenly just start scoring runs like crazy in the third. Very odd.

  • Hitting in this game
  • E eelnirad_anglo

I'm new to this game, but I've noticed in just a short time the hitting and pitching just seem random. I'll swing at a pitch in the same location against the same pitcher and pitch and sometimes it's perfect and a homerun, but the exact same scenario is a pop-up. I know I'm swinging at the same pace.

And the pitching against the computer is just sideways. I'll throw pitches that every batter just whiffs on. Then some random batter (not even a big power threat) comes up and I'll throw one outside the zone...and the batter blasts it out of the park. Look at the pitching square and it shows my pitch right in the middle of the plate. Then after the computer gets the one run it needs to win..every batter starts whiffing again. Strange.

What can I do to get better in this game when it plays like this? Please.

  • Hitting in this game
  • E eelnirad_anglo

I use zone. I'm not saying a perfect/perfect is a pop-up. I've never experienced a pop-up on a perfect/perfect. A lot of outs in key situations with perfect/perfect. I don't get a lot of them. Most of mine are just good...but good is sometimes a 90 mph scorcher down the line, sometimes it's a can of corn pop-up. And I know it's the same swing.

I hit a home run earlier today on what I thought was a check swing. It really surprised me because I thought another pop-up and it just flew over the fence.

I feel I'm not going to get better. I need consistent feedback to get better. Technique is everything, but this game doesn't seem weighted on technique. I'm not a quitter though. Will see if my experience changes over time. I hope so, because the game is really cool.
