My opinion of the game and my offline franchise
  • dogfishjones0_PSND dogfishjones0_PSN

I have read a lot of post about this game.
In that time, I keep seeing complaints of how bad this game is. I personally have had nothing but fun with it. I'll say this, I am not all that into face scans, equipment stuff. I Look at the gameplay and the unexpected things that do happen in baseball. I see that happening in this game with surprise of the unexpected things that do happen.
I know my opinion is mine only, but I give the game a solid 9/10.
I only play off line franchise. Nothing else.
I see hitters going through their ups and downs, I see pictures having a bad game then a gem. I see real baseball being played out in this "game". Notice I put quotations on the word, game.
That is what it is, you will NEVER, EVER, get a game to be 100% real life, because it is not real life it is a game.
I play every game, so I will at least play 162 games. I paid somewhere $80 for the game. So, for that bang for the buck, I will play for a simple formula here 1 hour per game, divided $80 in 162 and you get enjoyment for $.50 cent an hour. Go to a 2-hour movie and pay $1.00 for that enjoyment.
I will be very happy for enjoyment for that amount of money.
This has been money well spent on me. Mind you I am a semi-OCD type of guy too. I change the rating as I think they need changing as the season progresses. I change certain stuff that fit the player’s profile. I do not need updated rosters to do that. I go in a look at all the real transactions and make the necessary changes to the rosters. I feel my roster is about 95% correct. This game allows you to do this, which is great.
Maybe it is I am an older person who looks at a glass half full than half empty, but I also understand fully it is a game.
Will I purchase The Show 2027, you bet I will. I find great value in it.

I will not type here and tell you everything is correct and right. I did rate it a 9/10.
I am finding the game to be fun, and the cheapest sort of entertainment money can buy. You can buy a car; truck don't let me get on boats GAD! but even at those prices guess what? you have something go wrong or does not work right. Now compare the price factor, $80 to $80,000
This game gives us a pretty good representation of baseball. Back when I was a kid, about the same time dinosaurs were roaming the earth, we had one baseball that seemed to be perfect in a way, and I spent countless hours with friends playing it. It was the Strat-o-Matic card and dice game.
We could not wait until we could order the new edition then wait two or more weeks for it to be mailed to us. Then tear all the cards from the perforated sheets.
Computer games were like a dream, Home computers, forget that nonsense, never will happen. We did have the Atari pong game!!!!!! Mind you we had to beg our parents to buy us a simple calculator to do the stats ourselves, they were not chap back then, it was a major purchase. I did lean a lot of math in those days. Batting averages, ERA, kind of stuff.

Here we have all that done for ourselves and many more stats. We have a great video screen to see and watch the game. I understand all the people ranting this glove, this sock, this face scan stuff, but looks guys, it is nothing more than a game. A very cheap game really for the amount of time you spend on it.
Let's just say, this is the last edition of The Show because they got tired of the complaint and people always saw the negatives rather than the great stuff it gives us......what then?
Strat-O-Matic games are still in business I'm sure, go play that and compare to what we all have today. Everything depends on how you roll the dice if you get a hit or not.
But...but... you will not have to worry about face scans, socks, bats, equipment in general. heck you will not even have a stadium to play in, just a cardboard piece with three bases printed on it.

Be happy, be appreciative of The Show 26 and next year, they may add something you wanted before.

  • Any old farts good at this game?
  • dogfishjones0_PSND dogfishjones0_PSN

I'm 65 and play it. I started out with strat-o-matic baseball in the 70's and just two years ago decided to play on a Playstation. I did play in the early 200's with High heat, Triple Play but once it moved away from the PC I stopped all gaming until 2 years ago.
Now, I am excited about the NCAA football game, and hopefully next year a Nascar game that can be as good as N2003 from Sierra/Papyrus.
I play franchise mode and RTTS mode. I finally got to a 99 in my RTTS, as a 1B with the Astros that drafted me in the 5th round.
In franchise mode I am playing the the Baltimore Orioles and neck and neck with the Yankees for the division lead with a little over a month to go in the season. I will make the playoffs but I do not know if I will have to go in as a wild card team.
I play simulation, with pitching on Legend and batting on All-star.

  • Play 162
  • dogfishjones0_PSND dogfishjones0_PSN

I play every inning of every game in my 162 game season. It takes me a good 4 months to play a season. I do play some RTTS along the way to just break it up. I would say I play Franchise 80% or the time RTTS the other 20%.

  • The Show 25
  • dogfishjones0_PSND dogfishjones0_PSN

I play RTTS along with my franchise. To me I would like to see RTTS step up and make it more in depth about the player off the field. These hitting, fielding, pitching improvement session on off days get very boring, same old thing all season long.
First off i would add more of the player agent interaction. I have not had my agent show up since I was drafted and signed and I am in my 3rd season.
Second, I would like to see the team you were crafted by trade you away when you are in the minors a lot more. When in the majors, still trade you if there is a need to help the team you are playing for.
I would like to add the A ball league, even if it will be generic players with a mix of real players there. It is part of being a major league player, playing through the minor leagues. Maybe even if you are doing well, being called up while in AA as some do now these days.

Let's give them credit, they have given us 10 updates as of right now. I'll use another game that is new to the market as far as sports go. Nascar 25 from I-Racing. They sold you on this great game which has so many holes in it, that it would not hold a tablespoon of water. plus, they sent the game out at the end of the Nascar season with no chance of getting any updates for the 2026 season, you cannot even make those changes, it is very hard coded. You cannot change one thing now. Then they gave people some updates, but they all went away, left everyone high and dry just right after the season began because they want you to buy the next game at the end of this season. No forums to discuss the game on their site, really no type of interaction from them. This game costed about if not more than The Show. That tells me either they do not want to hear from those that bought it or they think they are way superior to those that bought it and they do not have the smarts to interact with them.
Think on this, say they give us this game in September with no possible chance to alter anything, roster, players attributes, nothing, you take what they give you on release. Then they give you a "few" little updates and then in December they stop and tell you wait in The Show 27 in September.
That my friends in my mind terrible service and loyalty to you and the money you have spent. Yet, they want you to spend another $80-$90 for naother game that is outdated the day you buy it.
Madden is still king of sports gaming as money goes for a major U.S. league. But hasn't Madden been about the same for about 20+ years now? Yea, a little here, a little there, but two years ago I stopped buying it and have found that I do not miss it at all. I did purchase the NCAA football game and that in itself suffice me enough to not consider Madden anymore, they are basically the same game, but I like college football much better than the NFL...well I am losing interest with all the NIL and transfers that happen, it has gone to the dumps it seems. But I regress in all that.
I love The Show as one game that I keep playing, it holds my interest and I again will say, I play 162+ games in my franchise mode. It holds me all season long which is great value.
Will The Show 27 be much better next year? No, because they have this game maxed out and close to being real life as you can right now. They will add some eye candy here and there but do not look for a revamped game, it doesn't need to be revamped, just added to in some areas. That will be enough for me to get it next year.

  • no more game update?
  • dogfishjones0_PSND dogfishjones0_PSN

You get to the point in time where you start ramping up for the next years game. I think overall this years game is good and now SDS can just add to the game for next year. I have not problems with them just putting out roster updates.
Overall I think MLB The Show was a good game that provided everyone a enjoyable time. Let us now all work toward next March for and more beefed up game with some new twist and turns added in.

I have mine set on simulation mode. I am not seeing those problems, not saying you are not.

    Are you using manage mode?

I bat with my team, and I pitch with my team. The only thing I have on auto is fielding.

  • Enjoying the game?
  • dogfishjones0_PSND dogfishjones0_PSN

I am, I really cannot tell much of a difference from 25. But, I enjoyed 25 so everything is good. I only play RTTS and franchise offline.
