You can play with friends, go into CO-OP and invite you friends through the console.
Boom.
Played a bunch of CO-OP with friends yesterday.
I just tried this on Xbox Series X with a buddy who is also on Series X, but the option to invite to game is grayed out, so it might only work like that for Playstation unfortunately.
