    Getting R2'd to death
  • Cmalz89_PSNC Cmalz89_PSN

Just played who guy who HEAVILY R2’d me early on. He ended up getting a nice lead because of it. I adjusted my pitching style and started doing it back to him. Long story short, I won in extra innings. Dude has the nerve to message me saying I was being “petty” and “enjoy your suspension” as if he wasn’t spamming the f*** out of R2 with runners on base.

The entire game was BS. I’ve always been a fan of R2 for slowing down pace and for the information it gives, but if they can’t fix this sh*t, then they need to get rid of R2 all together. When you play someone who uses it as en exploit, it takes the enjoyment out of the game.

  • Countering base stealing

This doesn't happen every online game, but any tips on how to counter against players that just try base stealing on every single pitch with baserunners that have high-90s speed?

Honestly I get tired of trying to throwing over to 1st all of the time and they will beat out the catchers throw when I do eventually decide to pitch to the batter. I am hoping that I am just missing a basic concept.

Every time they take an extra step throw over even if its 50 times.and if it does wind up double digit times do a report at end game about excessive lead offs. cauae maybe if it gets reported as griefing they put a fix for it cause 3 years of suggestions and emails havent worked.

Report? "Excessive lead offs" is a thing? lol. I didn't know this was a reportable offense. On what basis is this against the rules? If I have a fast guy on 1st/2nd, I'm taking that extra step every time....and I may or may not steal, just depends on the situation.

I mean, if the guy is 99 speed/steal....not much you can do about it besides slide step and have a great defensive catcher behind the plate. I've throw out Lofton quite a few times. I think the game does a decent job of making it so that 99 speed/steal guys aren't 100% for sure stolen bases.

  • Quick Pitching
  • Cmalz89_PSNC Cmalz89_PSN

    @birdmanmorin_psn said in Quick Pitching:

There is no such thing as quick pitching in baseball. When the batter has both feet in the box and the umpire does not have time out, the pitching speed is legal. When in the box the batter has to be ready........

So since we are playing a video game, and we don't have control over when the batters feet are in the box, and the digital umpire isn't policing unrealistic tempo of a game....this isn't much of an argument.

You are correct, quick pitching is not a problem in "real" baseball, it's quite the opposite actually (which is why they're testing time clock in double-A). But here, in the video game world, quick pitching is a real thing. So if you want to compare real baseball to a video game, then lets compare it. But don't cherry pick. Throwing 7 pitches in 17 seconds isn't a thing in baseball, period......but calling time to slow down the pitcher is.

As a pitcher......holding R2 only disrupts quick pitchers. By default, I usually take a second before starting my next pitch, and by the time I'm ready, the little icon has already disappeared. I don't think it should be allowed every pitch, but for now it is, so adapt. Keep in mind, I have played opponents who use it a lot and probably with bad intentions, but I have not played an opponent that I would say "abuses" it.

As a hitter......if you want to quick pitch to throw me off my best game, then I will hold R2 to throw you off yours. Exploiting each other's weaknesses.....sounds like competition to me. I use it for information 90% of the time....especially when there's a new pitcher. But I also use it to slow people down....never with the intent to mess up timing on an individual pitch.

Exactly. Glad someone gets it. It’s just like real baseball but it’s a video game and this is the best way they could figure out how to make both sides happy.

Except that R2 is being used as a weapon against... pitching. Which is a required element of gameplay. Using R2 in this weaponised context is optional and the pitcher has no equivalent because the pitcher has to pitch. The pitcher has to pitch and being f-ed with by a game feature that's being used in an unsportsmanlike way doesn't sound like 'exploiting each other's weaknesses' but more like the one-sided exploit it actually is.

Not sure where you guys are it in this debate....and forgive me for not reading the previous 50 posts on this thread.

I would consider the unrealistic quick pitching as an exploit against hitters. At least, for me it is. I am far from pro at this game, and I would like more than 0.4 seconds in-between pitches to get my thoughts and finger placement together. So, if I face a guy who likes to throw 5 pitches in 12 seconds. Then I will use what tool are at my disposal. I don't abuse R2 anymore than my opponent repeatedly balks. I can only call time once, if it even lets me at all (which is also unrealistic).

I understand both sides of the argument here, so I wont go back and forth with anyone. If you excel when quick pitching, then I understand your gripe.....but understand mine when you balk 30 times a game.

FYI, you can not balk when there are not runners on base, this is not about slowing down people who quick pitch.

Yea, I'm aware of how balks work. Quick pitching is more of an issue when there are runners on base, because pitchers pitch from the stretch....and when pitchers pitch from the stretch, their wind ups are quicker, meaning quicker pitches....which is what I'm trying to avoid.

I will not speak for anyone else that plays the game and used R2, but for me, R2 is about nothing other than slowing down quick pitchers.

  • So where are all the server crashing posts now?
  • Cmalz89_PSNC Cmalz89_PSN

Well, the weekend is upon us. Lets not celebrate until we can go through a Friday and Saturday night without it crashing.

  • Archetype
  • Cmalz89_PSNC Cmalz89_PSN

I know what you mean. I havent spent much time in RTTS, but I have been using my player in DD and I just got the silver Sparkplug archtype - and when I applied it, I went from a 2B to a left fielder. I don't think I fully understand the my ballplayer/RTTS thing yet. I'll just keep upgrading the archtypes and see what happens at the diamond level.

I'm also confused on why my RTTS guy has 73 CON in RTTS mode but when I take him to DD he's in the 90s with CON. I don't change equipment/archetypes in between modes.

  • Showdown question.
  • Cmalz89_PSNC Cmalz89_PSN

Same. I thought maybe it was a mental thing for me, like the pressure of having to restart gets to me. But nah, I'm convinced they've tweaked some things in showdown - making it more difficult.

You might as well group SDS with EA at this point. A bunch of do-nothing clowns.

Stop buying stubs, stop giving them your money, and maybe they will feel pressured to give an explanation. Maybe they will have a sense of urgency to correct the issues. But as long as they money continues to roll in, why would they bother speaking to the community or fixing the issues? For me, I know I will think twice about purchasing next year’s game.

  • Cmalz89_PSNC Cmalz89_PSN

@skoalface1823_xbl said in Extend 1st Inning:

I think the fair way to do this would be just extend 2xp throughout the duration of the "1st Inning". I mean, it's only 2xp... still takes time and most people aren't going to complete it anyways.

I’d be fine with that. Double XP makes up for the lost time with server issues.

  • Extend 1st Inning
  • Cmalz89_PSNC Cmalz89_PSN

The servers have been an issue, that is no secret. I’m not here to bash SDS for that (we all know they were unprepared). However, they need to extend the 1st inning program. A lot of us work 40+ plus a week, have a family/kids. We can’t sit down and grind for 8 hrs a day. So when we can play, and the servers are down, we have absolutely no chance of completing the program by the current end date. I don’t want stubs. I don’t want a refund. I just want to play the [censored] game!!
