    I don’t want no stubs…

    @baseball229056_XBL said in I don’t want no stubs…:

Yes, these horrible for-profit companies need to be stopped. It is ridiculous that they actually want to turn a profit on something they produce. I can't understand why they don't just release all of the cards for the year on day one and just give them out to everyone.

C’mon man, you’re better than this. No one is attacking capitalism here and we ain’t falling for it. Go to Reddit or twitter for that will ya? There are many good, informed opinions on this forum and, excluding mine and your previous posts, there is an actual intelligent point being argued.

  • I made a list that may help those struggling with Moments…
  • BxnnyMxn__PSNB BxnnyMxn__PSN

I’d like to pass on some things that has made all the difference for me, and, while I generally suck, the moments aren’t an issue…so much so that when I read about those who struggle playing these situations, in my heart I wish there was some way I could play them in your place because I’d gladly do it…for anyone. Since I’m unaware of how I could possibly do this, the only thing left is to try and pass on what has worked for me…and perhaps they’ll work for you.
Different strokes for different folks, I get it but here are some things that might help:

    1. If you have a moment requiring 2 extra base hits, restart immediately if you don’t get one of them in 1st AB.

    2. Disable PCI - it’s accursed! Watch the ball out of the pitchers hand and your eyes and thumbs will do the rest.

    3. Swing when the ball reaches the transition point FROM grass TO dirt.

    4. No matter what you’re tempted to do, only use normal swing. I’ve only played this year and last so maybe in years past it wasn't the thing to do (I’ve not a clue), but i can affirm that a normal swing is all you need now.

    5. Stay off the low pitches. I used to sit with my knees blocking the bottom half of the strike zone to force myself to lay off these. If you can’t see the ball (hidden by knee), don’t swing. Use the knee fellers!

    6. When pitching, never, never throw a breaking pitch. In moments, it’s fastball, change up. Remember cutter and sinkers are fastballs. If you don’t have a change up, alternate fastballs. Locate your pitches on the corners top and bottom and if you have to miss, aim so that you miss out of the zone, not in. Never, never throw a slider to this damned computer!!

    7. Don’t hot dog around the bases and get yourself thrown out just because you got one of the hits you needed. Example is say ya need 3 hits and you let yourself get thrown out at second just for the fun of it…you still get your hit but what can happen later in the game you might end up with two extra at bats (chances) to complete the moment that you might not have gotten because the rally that tied the game to extend the game would not have ever happened. Those extra chances are difference makers. This is HUGE.

    8. Don’t like a players stance or swing? USE THE KNEE! Block it from your view (like in tip #5 above) entirely and VOILA - no more cramped style. Moments are about the little white ball and putting virtual wood on it. That’s it. Can’t use the knee, drape something over the monitor, tape a piece of paper over it, do something to free up your concentration.

Now, are these tips the only way to do it? Absolutely not. Matter of fact you can hit a lot of homers by teeing off on the low stuff but I suggested to avoid them…the main reason is to try and train your thumbs (yes, muscle memory) not to pull the stick down so far that you pop out even with perfect. Instead retrain yourself to hit the top half of the zone and you’ll send the ball wherever you want. Breaking balls, when pitching, are very fun but one little mistake and cpu will make you pay. Remember, ya can’t hang a fastball, you can only dot that sucker.

Hope it helps. This isn’t a comprehensive list, but it might be just enough to help you get over the hump. Y’all can do this…heck if I can, anyone can just don’t get discouraged. Good Luck.

@Blind_Bleeder said in Why I do spreadsheets:

I appreciate all the comments in this thread. For you young’uns I can see how you’d feel this is a waste of time

I find the concept of anyone passing judgment on a video game forum about a “waste of time” to be a rather refined form of intellectual Liliputianism and dripping with irony. Seriously, nothing says “I lead an exciting, adventurous, and industrious life” better than pettiness and one-upsmanship on a video game forum!

Those spreadsheets make life much much easier for those of us who do the programs after they’re no longer current. It literally takes all the guesswork out and only a couple of seconds to update. I print them and fill them in by pencil. Very handy.

Solid post. I’m a baseball history nerd so I appreciate that about this game. Love playing with old legends.

If you’re a baseball book enthusiast. There are so many solid ones, lately I’ve grabbed a biography of a player I’ve been using on the show or a book about that team and time period. I’m a nerd though haha.

When I was a kid my dad gave me "My Turn Up at Bat," by Ted Williams. He's from MA so he grew up a Sox fan. At 11 I started loving the stories behind the game. He told me stories of Williams and Yaz, and ditching school for a day game. We'd watch Boggs and Mattingly on TV and saw Gwynn play live in SD. This was all started by guys like Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, and Walter Johnson. Such a wonderful History.

I can’t even begin to share with you just how beautiful this post was to me. My GOD man but if this isnt what it’s all about! Bless you man, I thank you for sharing this on here…I mean this from the innermost depths of my soul. Today is my dad’s birthday and he was on my mind upon waking. I lost him 25 years ago but the fond memories that were conjured by the wizardry of your post has made them oh so present again this morning. Again, i bless you and thank you.

    ps I just love baseball

…so you contend that you’re content with content? haha

sorry I couldn’t help meself there but I agree with you for my part - I’ve not scratched the surface of what’s already out here and, despite being terrible at the game, Im getting lots of enjoyment out of it

Remind me, is this your second or third year?

It’s my second edition of the game but I’ve not been playing for a year yet so I’m still wet behind the ears as far as this experience goes. This is also (by a very long stretch) the most active I’ve ever been in a forum…it’s only the third one I’ve ever even tried to be a part of which is probably why I’m so long winded (been working on this one) because I’ve held it all in for so long. I like a lot of the characters and personalities here and have gotten a great deal of encouragement from people….no small amount of this has come from you yourself and I’m especially thankful and appreciative of it partner. I truly is!

Did anyone catch that 1st AB of Bellinger last night vs the Jays? The very first pitch the man sees gets annihilated…it was a first pitch change up and to me, it looked to be the precise same pitch as the one Nico Hoerner hit just 2AB earlier. I was awestruck it was like “is this guy dialed in right now or what?”

I gotta say I’m liking the Cubbies for that NL Central race is completely up for grabs and very, very winnable and they would be wise to do so because the NL Wilcard is going to be crazy too! Oh I’m having a nerdgasm here friggin baseball man woooo!

I apologize if this sounds cheeseball but you have made these forums a lot more welcoming and fun to participate in. They had become really toxic but I’m noticing a lot of the old crew who got me into this game posting more and more so I appreciate your baseball enthusiasm and contributions. Alright, enough of that haha.

I really thought Bellinger was a flash in the pan or a burnout but it’s nice to see a change of scenery did him good. Can’t believe I’m saying this but I hope he re-signs and becomes a career Cubbie. Good baseball is always a joy to watch

I will second Eric. Bxnny Man is a fresh of breath air on this forum if toxic and jaded posters ( even the good guys become jaded dealing with the arseholes constantly attaching it being dbags).

    Much appreciated Bxnny

You are incredibly kind and gracious for your undeserved but much appreciated complement. @Ericulous1_PSN has provided me with such kind encouragement on several occasions now (seriously, I feel the same way about you, fella) which has helped me along tremendously since I’ve been around here.
As for yourself well I knew I admired you the day I read that incredible complement that @Blind_Bleeder posted for you a few weeks back. In my experience here on this forum, he’s as good as it gets and, while I can think of a couple right off the top of my head (y’all know who y’all are) that are equal to him, there are none who surpass him.

The trolls do what they do - they are miserable souls who simply want others to be miserable like they are. Misery loves company, it’s true but so does friendliness, honesty, and kindness. It doesn’t mean that we have to agree about everything, because we never will (what fun would THAT be?), but it’s been my life’s experience that you can never go wrong by treating folks with dignity, respect, and courtesy…..and so many of y’all great personalities do JUST that on this forum. I love the game of baseball and this game is really growing on me as well…but it’s been about 15-20 of ya’s on here that’s made all this worth it for me. This really is a great bunch of fellas

@Oreo-Thomas_XBL I’ve got mad respect for you partner

  • The Negro Leagues are in MLBTS 23! Yes!
  • BxnnyMxn__PSNB BxnnyMxn__PSN

…They are probably holding out big-name players for future editions. This did say Season 1, so there is still hope for more Greats down the road.

I’m kinda leaning that way too, and it makes the most sense in all honesty…especially when you consider that (I’m admittedly making an assumption here) chances are, your average baseball fan isn’t going to be acquainted with the better part of the players from back then…I mean everyone has heard of Mays, McCovey, Satchel, and Big Josh Gibson, but I’ve rarely heard mention of many others…myself included as an average fan that is ignorant when it comes to the Negro Leagues, except every old timer that I can remember discussing baseball with from my younger days (when these people were still alive), now these guys ALWAYS made sure to bring up the incredible talent that made up that league. I got the impression from the press release that, indeed, one of the major tenets behind this incredible upcoming edition is just that; to educate us all about some of these incredibly talented athletes. I personally cannot wait!

Hey, real quick, on the subject that you brought up about ‘stories’, I’ve just remembered another that I heard a while back on some show that I caught on tv that is relevant here. It was a show, possibly a documentary, where they had this very grizzled, ancient looking old retired sports journalist from way back in the day…picture the guys in cheap suits, cigarette smoke as thick as fog, and each man with a portable typewriter in their laps and you’ll begin to get the idea. This old timer was around to see the golden age of baseball (again my opinion) and he covered the Yankees back when greats like Gehrig, Ruth, and DiMaggio played. He said one day he was walking through a particular ball field (I picture from what he said like he might’ve been going through the concourse and hadn’t emerged into the seating yet), and his routine was to speak with the players during BP prior to the game to try and get some juicy bits of info, rumors, news, etc. He said all of the sudden, he heard the most tremendous(yet very familiar) sound that he had ever heard…he said it was unmistakably the familiar ‘CRACK’ of bat on ball, but he said the only swing that he ever heard that made a noise like this was from the Babe himself, but, he being someone who covered the Yankees, he knew that there was no way it was he because the event he came out to cover was a game between two teams from the Negro Leagues! The hairs on my neck stood up as he was telling this and you could just see it in the old man’s bright eyes - he was reliving this moment! He said the man at the other end of that bat, a mountain of a man over six feet and “well over 200lbs of solid muscle”, was none other than the incomparable Josh Gibson!

    Isn’t that awesome?

  • Today I’ve pitched 3 ghosted innings…spoooky
  • BxnnyMxn__PSNB BxnnyMxn__PSN

Seriously, I hope I make this clear enough to follow… I started a game with Donaldson pitching and playing DH. Around the 4th inning I had Shohei warming up in the bullpen getting ready to pitch the next inning, while we’re still batting. Donaldson comes up and hits a double so I bring in Ohtani to pinch run for Donaldson, he scores yadda yadda and the inning ends. Donaldson is still on the mound, but because I subbed for DH, now he gets to hit also in his Pitcher spot and now Othanl is my active LF (he disappeared from the bullpen obviously)and I subbed out Lou Brock who was previously in this spot. The next inning when Donaldson comes to bat, I sub him for Buck O’Neil, he gets a hit yadda yadda. Ok the next inning begins and I choose to leave Buck O’Neil (pos player) in as pitcher, so after I face the minimum 3 batters I go to the substitution screen and swap O’Neil into LF and pull Ohtani into pitch and it works! I pitch three scoreless innings with Ohtani, hit a couple of homers and successfully subbed him in from the bench and was able to use him to hit AND pitch…is that cool or what?

After the game was over, the box score showed some funny things, and the game log. The log never acknowledged who was on the mound for those three innings that I pitched with Shohei and the pitcher line on the box score only shows a total of five innings pitched (by Donaldson, Moreta, and Buck O’Neil lol) leaving off Ohtani completely BUT after I exit the game screen onto the rewards page, there on the parallel upgrades tab it shows 320xp for 3IP,8SO ,3RBI, 2HR ,3R so it’s credited to him but not according to the scorers sheet ain’t that kinda neat? Had everyone already figured this out?

It’s like he was a ghost pitcher…maybe he’s been hanging out with Senga?

ps this was the 99 Donaldson and O’Neil, the 97 Franchise Lou Brock and the 99 Lightning Ohtani

  • Did/do you collect baseball cards?
  • BxnnyMxn__PSNB BxnnyMxn__PSN

My nephew paid me a visit yesterday evening and, as he is an up and coming young local baseball talent, the old baseball card album was broken out. I hadn’t even touched it since 1993 or so but had a blast revisiting these old memories. Right there on the first page was my 1983 Topps traded Darryl Strawberry, sitting next to an 85 topps Eric Davis and a 1983 Fleer Hojo! I guess some things never change, huh?

I’d love to hear some of y’all’s “1st pagers”, if that’s how you did your album. I always made my first page the best page in my album. My first page was a rookie page:

Straw, Hojo, and Davis, followed by 2 Cal Jr (fleer and donruss), Tony Gwynn, Puckett, Clemens, and Dr K(all Topps) rounded out my first 9 cards.

Those were awesome to see but what gave me the biggest kick was all the pages of players that I just knew were going to be the next greatest thing haha…such as my 3 full pages (front and back) of Sam Horn cards! Looks like I had a thing for Ron Jones of the Phillies as well.

Y’all got any to add? I’d love to hear the flops…surely I wasn’t the only one who adored big Sam? Now I’ve not checked in years but last time I did, he was still the only MLB player to strike out 6 times in a single game lol! A talent scout I’m not!

And managed to do it without playing conquest.

Trick for me was the mini seasons on legend really have a huge boost of points and it only took me 23 games including playoffs ( I lost 2 regular season games, not counting the 12 I forfeited once I hit 15 wins). Plus playing at home saves a bunch of time vs conquest.

Beat showdown and all moments except the mind numbing ones I could avoid as well ( Shohei, Elly, Garcia, Morrell, and the perfect game 1)…

I naturally beat some of the missions as I played….I’m sure I will do conquest at some point but very slowly just for hidden packs.

Kudos to SDS, this was the most enjoyable program in awhile for me.

Bump up for the day. For all of you who think you can't finish this program, a little insight. I'm 68 and finished it last night.

10 wins on Legend in Mini Seasons
30 K's on Legend in Mini Seasons
5 HR on Legend and several other requirements
Beat the Extreme Conquest first time
Finished 9 of the 13 moments
Finished the rest on PXP using Martel, Wagner, Piazza and Cain.
Haven't tried Griffey yet but his stats look amazing.

    IT CAN BE DONE!!!!

    Mad props, bud!
    68. Wowwww.
It can be done. I haven't attempted CQE yet, but beat all Moments but the 3 hr one on legend.
If you get to Wagner, he CAN last 6 innings, to get the win and quality start. Finished his and Ketels missions. Piazza.....that 15 hr is taking awhile!

Partner….matter of fact, everyone, my litmus test for extreme are the moments. You guys that have completed them are very skillful and patient…just bulldawgs really. The rest of the stuff is difficult (I’m assuming it is because I sure as shinola ain’t trying it), but you at least can fall into some kind of rhythm. I don’t mention the showdown because that’s just out of the question haha.

I’m serious, y’all are some GAMERS….y’all are some G’s says I and I say break out the cognac because I believe it was Snoop Deeohdubblegee that once so eloquently put it…ahem, “ Cognac is the drink that's drank by G's Sagging like a mf’er, khakis to they knees”
