Biggest problem with pitching

The umpires/strike zone....fix that and it would go a long way to fixing pitching
-
This is right! I noticed the PCI doesn't go to the edges of the zone this year, but also the ump won't call anything borderline a strike. Everything is squeezed down a few inches too far. When you catch a guy off guard with a pitch thats 3/4 inch outside on 2-2 count, a real ump is gonna ring him up most of the time.

Plus they don't have to worry as much about it being called a strike...so less likely to chase anything

I’ve been saying this for weeks now, it forces people to throw balls in the fat part of the zone. I would even be OK if the ball is 50% in the zone it’s a strike anything less than that it is not. But right now unless 98% of the ball is in the zone it is not a strike. There is no ability to dot a pitch or paint a corner.

Yeah but the thing is..if even a PIECE is in the zone it is supposed to be a strike

Umps get absolutely no love. Virtual and in RL. Some things never change.

Technically yeah. But that wouldn't translate well in a game. Pitching would be way to easy. They do need to establish something consistent though. My thing is this how they'll do they need to have umps with tendencies. So if one ump might give more low inside, another might not. And we we should get these tendencies before the game. That will atleast let us know how we should pitch depending on that certain umps tendencies of strick calls
-
Although I agree with you that nothing on the corners is called. My pitches have like a magnetic field to the center boxes. Trust me, I have tried everything. The only thing that provides some relief is putting on my mobile hot spot which would mean this is a connection issue. I suspect fielding is a result of that. I don't think for a second they coded this in the game. Players like Mantle should NEVER miss a routine fly ball. I may have missed one in my college and no career and I am no Mantle. I think it has more to do with where you are seeing things on your screen and where the server does.

Don't the umpires already have tendencies?...and I disagree...pitching wouldn't be too easy..pitching would be the way it should be..realistic
-
This is a big part of the problem. The other major factor is check swings. So not only does the AI umpire not call pitches on the edges for strikes, the batter can be fooled by pitch after pitch and just check swing when they pick up that it is out of the zone.
Those are the two biggest things with pitching, but let’s not forget how good releases often don’t go where you intend, and how there is no rhyme or reason to how you miss this year.
It used to be you could make sure to not hang a pitch by being late, or early if you wanted to make sure your pitch was up. Now a miss is a miss and who knows. The randomness of the game is really sad.

Maybe they do but we have no way of knowing. And if you want every pitch that barely touches the black to be called a strike, yes pitching would be to easy. Everybody who always want more realism to a video game need to understand everything doesn't translate well. That's why we have more rng in hitting now. So instead of rewarding user input as it should, hitting gets nerfed to keep BAs and scores realistic.People forget its still Video Game. Having games were my bad inputs are being rewarde more than my good input makes no sense. But i digress. The game is what it is.

My God!!! You casuals!!! do you have Umpire settings to "Personalized"? If you want robotic calls with the strike zone change it to Precise!! Test the game before you make accusations people...another post about User error.

Hitting wouldn't need to be nerfed if pitching was easier

Haha really?, I didn't know that, I was too busy playing offline mode where they AI has way more baseball common sense than some Red Bull hopped up kid somewhere in North America.

Says the person who Said "test the game before you make accusations"
You have now lost any credibility in my eyes going forward.

Online or DD.? Regardless Im again have to disagree. I like the variable strikezone. It changes with umpire to umpire..Also nibble too much all game and throw a ton of balls late in the game those tight pitches go either way. That's just my opinion but I see why some might have an issue..I like the variables again, even when I'm getting squeezed. Its not just a one way feeling..IDK Curious what the rest are saying. Theres quite few regulars I know would agree with me I didnt scan the answers ..About to check it out now.

Technically yes. They nailed the strike zone IMO..Watch MLB games of a fav team? If so home plate umpires and their strike zone varies from game to game depending on the ump..Forget that. Umpires in the same game strike zones may vary .Especially in a situation. Wide zone might get called tighter or vice versa. Some umps may suck point blank.Again very much real and the least of any problem this game has.Again key words , IMO.
