Really because it looks like @25xp/hr it would take a lot less time to hit 40hr then 1000xp in showdown

yup. no question HR Derby, yet not worth the grind. Showdown has more value than just the xp per minute of play... and that includes the fact that you are actually playing the game rather than hitting X until your thumb nail falls off in HR Derby

You still get xp for things you do in showdown the 300/1000 xp things are bonus xp.
He is actually correct as long as you can win a majority of the challenges

If you just play the game and not worry about gaining xp, the relative time to gain xp is minimal in my experience.

Yeah not sure about this... To get 4000 xp in HR Derby you need to mash 160 HR (25 xp ea) figure that will take 6 rounds (26-27 per round) at 4 min each +30 bonus and TOs ~ 5 min per round that's 4000 xp in 30 min... You can get that in a 5-7 min showndown moment.
Unless I'm wrong with how derby works??

Ya, it's hard to time trial the showdown, but you may be right. All depends how fast and successful you can be at showdown I think. If you hop in, draft, jump in and exit the small moments to jump right to the three showdowns, you save the time and maximize the xp per minute, but you have to be good enough to win them without grinding all the little moments that take a long time and dont offer as much bonus xp. some of those little ones are great tho. like the "strike out one batter" ones that take longer to load in and out than the play itself.
Point really is, that showdown it better. more rewards, more fulfilling game play, more challenging, and potentially more XP depending on your ability

I gain 1 XP level per 30 minutes playing HRD. The way I do it so fast is by using a rubber band to hold down the triangle button, which speeds up the ball in the air. I do 8 player derbys, and I make about 700xp per round, and each round takes me about 2 minutes. 14 rounds In 30 minutes. 700 x 14 =9800

I do the same thing but sometimes I don’t see my postgame rewards showing the amount of XP earned,etc. do I have to close the app or something after the derby?

You can get 23,000 XP in literally one hour of showdown. See vid below, I broke it down with a slide, from time, stubs and xp earned from each mini and main boss showdown. Fast forward to 6:06 to see the slide.

If you are a player that can consistently complete showdown without fail showdown is the way to go. If not probably HR Derby. I like doing MTO. Gets TA and XP for in game rewards.
