Changeup Velo
-
This might be a dumb question, does anyone know how the velo works on the changeups in RTTS? When you "add" velo, what does it actually do because it doesn't appear to be the same as a Splitter, Forkball, etc.
Has SDS ever explained the algorithm for how it works?

@parky_8_PSN Unlike all other pitches, 'adding' velocity to a changeup makes the MPH go down.
If you know how a changeup works IRL, skip this next bit. In baseball, a pitcher throws the changeup with the same arm action as the fastball .. just slower (hence, change). Ideally, you want your change to be between 10-15 MPH slower than your fastball. If it's too slow, the batters have time to adjust to the difference and hit the tar off the ball.
Now, in RTTS, I'm not sure if there is a 'too slow/fast'. If my fastball is maxed out at 99, I tend to keep my change at base level. If you're not going to put too many tokens into your fastball, you're going to want to invest some in your change. You don't want a 100 MPH fastball and a 70 MPH changeup.
So TL;DR .. adding to velo makes the MPH go down.

@StinkyMcPooter_XBL Thanks for clarifying, I understand a "real" changeup, but the game doesn't really give you an indicator of how it works. Seems like it's the opposite, you add points and it creates the difference.

I think the changeup starts at 85 mph (not too sure, I don't use one).
If you dumped 100 tokens into it, I think it would go all the way down to 70 or maybe 65? Either way, it's ridiculous. Having a change that slow is just asking for home runs.
The one big caveat to the changeup velo is the speed of your fastball. In past iterations of the game (and I think it works the same way this year), your fastball will top out around 99 mph. The only way to get that thing up past 100, is to increase the velo of your secondary pitches. My pitcher has a 95 slider/splitter velo and can get up to 104. I don't know if this is the same for the changeup. It would really suck having to invest that much into your change to get the fastball up there. Someone who uses a change will have to answer that question.
