When a player is running out a grounder, he runs in fair territory, but that would be considered making a move towards 2nd and he could be tagged out. The runners should be in foul territory.

As long as the runner stays in the baseline he established and makes the turn back toward first while staying in that baseline and not taking a step toward second he is not considered to going to 2nd. backed up by the 25 minute conversation between the manager and the umpire and then the umpires conference and then the call to New York for the rules review, and the above is the answer they came up with.
I can not remember exactly when it happened but I do remember that it was a well paced game up to that point and then the one half inning took over 45 minutes and kinda killed the flow of the game
