Murakami was scanned all the way back in 23 with the WBC. So was his stance.

@dodgers19k88_MLBTS I know we used to think that they needed to play a game first but we have Ryan Sloan in the Mariners organization who has a scan and hasn’t played in the majors. There’s also been many others who are in the game before appearing in the big leagues. Ultimately I don’t think we’ll completely know the ‘why’ or the ‘when’ but at least we have some kind of answer now.
The difference is minor league players that have not appeared in the majors have to give permission for their likeness to be used. Even though they are in the MLBPA, they have their own deal. So, guys like Sloan have allowed their scan to be used.
Once they are in the majors, they are part of the MLBPA's group agreement.
I don't know if this distinction applies to the 26 man MLB roster or the 40 man roster. I saw no mention of this in the MLBPA statements. Only major/minor league.
