Does playing on higher difficulty against the computer give you more pxp towards the ta missions or is it just for the player upgrades?

Its for both. Whatever player pxp you get is whats counted towards the TA missions. So playing on a higher difficulty will give ypu more pxp for your player, and therefore give you more towards the missions.
