@Rhyno1986_XBL who is Catherine? why would I pick a cather?

Yeah it is called an auto correct but was funny.

Yeah, for sure. I am all for the chess match to have to sacrifice hitting for an adequate defensive catcher and for 99 speed guys making a difference on the basepaths.
Unfortunately, it seems like people are stealing with 76 speed guys and although I have not tested it, I’d be surprised if a maxed out catcher with pop time could throw out maxed out speed Pete Crow.
Hard to believe they took a step backward on this. Throwing in a pickle is as unresponsive as ever and people are exploiting it. Guys like PCA can steal second without a lead on pitchouts, even third base.
Gross
Thats not 100% accurate. Right now you have really 2 choices for Catherine. Either pick a cather that has high hitting but low as hell pop time and arm, or go with a low hitting non switch hitter who has high arm strength, accuracy, and pop time. Then you can mitigate the steals for some people, bit then your sacrificing the hitting. I will say this IS what I like about power creep. If the could just fix the hitting so 40% of the perfect swings aren't line/fly outs, the slider shrinkage lie, and the perfect umpire lie. I would really feel like the game made a step forward. But yeah here we are lol.
I use Joe Mack, he has 80+ pop time 90+ arm strength and accuracy at p5. Good against righties, then platoon with Will Smith but just started using Victor Martinez @ DH.

I’ve gotten stolen while using Pudge and making a perfect throw to 2nd, by runners with 70ish speed and probably 60ish steal…

@I23SAVAGE23I_XBL I’ve always thought that a pitch out & subsequent good throw should equal an automatic out. Kind of like when you used to guess your opponent’s play on Tecmo Bowl.
-
@The412Smoke_XBL in most cases yes I agree. I grew up a Cards fan in the 80’s. They pitched out on Coleman and McGee all the time and it didn’t matter. I guess I’m the only one who can’t steal cuz everytime I try to engage the running game it just costs me in the end.

Its funny that your catcher can't throw anyone out, because every outfielder can throw you out at 2nd and 3rd while standing on the warning track.

How many players are prioitizing defense at catcher? I see so many cal Raleigh users because people overvalue power at ever position it seems. Ever since I put my p5 Pudge behind the plate (with a Def token to make 99 pop, 99 arm str/acc) no one steals 2nd on me, even the Witts and Figgins cards have been thrown out. Most of the catchers I see people using have 75 arms. You bet your [censored] I'm stealing every chance I get when I see that.
Bonus: it feels so famm good to throw them out, I know some have been baffled because it works every other game for them. -
@Reesh77_PSN None of the good players prioritize defense - and even if you do, you probably still get stolen on.
-
@rubicante23_PSN maybe for you. I was throwing out baserunners all weekend classic long once I made the swap to a defensively sound catcher.
People on this thread seemed like they were looking for helpful suggestions. Since I had great success with this change i thought I'd share my experience.
Been working great for me. I don't even care that he has the lowest average on my team. He's not in the lineup to hit. He's there to throw out baserunners, and is currently the best I've found in the game so far at doing so. -
@Reesh77_PSN I had Pudge to a 98 arm & 99 pop time and while I usually get the out if I pitch out, It’s 50/50 on normal pitches. There definitely needs a tweaking on the backside.
