Get rid of backup closers?
-
Just wondering if anyone has tried changing the positions of all of the backup closers to RPs instead and if that makes the CPU do anything weird with their roster?
For one, they don’t even really use the closer as the closer a lot of the time. And two, they’ll have good “backup” closers sitting in AAA that would be good enough to be in the MLB if they were a RP.

I edit all the CP to RP. The CPU often moves closers out of the CP spot when they struggle. And you’re right, too many CP sitting in the minors. Plus some CP get a slight rating boost when they have the CP label.

You don’t notice the CPU do anything weird with their rosters when you do that? If there are no CPs in the game?

Within Franchise the CPU will put the highest rated reliever in the CP spot to start the season. Even if you leave a guy with the CP label the CPU may not put him at closer if a RP has a higher rating so I think it works better by not having a CP but just RP. The CPU bullpen logic doesn’t just keep a player at CL just because he’s labeled a closer. If he struggles the CPU will move him from that spot.

I feel like in the short term the rosters/ bullpen work better in the game with no CP. And just to be sure, I simmed three seasons on this year’s game and in the 1st off season the draft had one low ranked CP. The next two drafts didn’t even have a CP in the draft. So eventually there wouldn’t really be any CP anyways—depending on how far you sim. Inclusion I haven’t seen any issues.

Good to know. Thanks guys. Whenever I finalize my roster I’m going to get rid of all of the CPs except for the obvious veteran closers.
