The red-headed stepkids - Battle Royale and Team Affinity
-
BR and TA just never get any love in this game. The devs keep trying to give you some reasons to play BR - you were supposed to draft AJ Puk to do the egg mission. But, everybody was like "nah, I'll just buy him for 1800 stubs, then put him back on the market when I'm done." The only thing they won't do is the obvious thing that would get people to play BR - create a reward program for it every inning!
Team Affinity is just constantly ignored. Remember last year? - they had to gift people a bazillion free TA points because no one bothered to have any Jolt players. The captains don't have any value in any competitive play. No additions are made to TA as time goes on, so no one has any incentive to pay attention to it.
Why never any love for these two excellent modes?

TA is such a wasted opportunity. It used to be the great grind umbrella, something to work on if you got programs done early and were waiting for new ones. It also had a great tie-in to March to October making that mode a very fun change of pace. Why did these things change, did people actually complain about the extra content?
-
They kind of had to give those points to people, because it wasnt a good design for people that started late in the year to have to do the full grind to get All Star and Finest cards.
I think they had something good with the 21/23 model, but went a bit overboard in 2024 so they just wiped the whole thing.
Starting fresh is a good idea too (trying new things should be encouraged), but the first iteration kind of sucked. Instead of iterating and learning they just kind of said screw it, lets not bother this year.

@applelemon560_mlbts you can't force anyone to play online to do the missions for the Egg Hunt Program, best thing SDS did was make it to where you didn't have to in order to finish the program
-
@sbchamps17_NSW there's a whole multiplayer program where you have to play online. And programs where you have to play Events (online). So this can't be the reason
-
@rubicante23_psn that's not my point, the multi player is not what I was talking about, I was talking about OPs post about Puk being in BR and all I said was that they can't force anyone to play online plus if you read the mission then you would see that it didn't have to be online. I don't play online and still end up with the cards from the multi player program and the event
-
BR was my favorite mode a few years ago, especially when they had the miscellaneous silver/gold cards to fill out collections. It lost a lot of its luster last year when SDS folded it into the generic "multiplayer" program. I didn't play BR until late in the game cycle in 2025 when I had stubs to burn. I just love the gameplay in BR with the variety of cards.
It's the same for me this year - I haven't even played my "freebie" entry yet. I was able to complete the first Multiplayer program through Events only. Plus, I think I didn't even need to wait until "Drop 2" like I would have last year.
Just a bummer.

TA's just didn't produce many usable cards in ranked. I rarely see TA cards being used. I have them all and still have Wagner in the bullpen for now and trying Ortiz at 1st. Haven't hit well with LS JRam so moved Brett to 3rd. Too many better options with egg, new threads and wbc stuff.
I have literally played 1 game in my free BR run so far. Already have MP program done so don't see much reason to play BR right now.

I am about to finish first stage of TA for all teams. Just have to use the Trashtros to get them to 100% The problem I have with TA is that there just aren't enough good players this early in the game to make it fun. The Rays, Whitesox, and Twins come to mind as some of the worst teams I used. TA should be completely naturally throughout the course of the game cycle. BR is just for try hards so I avoid it.

Funny - those are the 3 that I'm furthest behind with. I'd include the Reds with that, but I seem to have gone "off" with Joe Morgan. I normally don't like his cards, but I'm on fire with him this year.

@theBlindRhino_PSN when team Affinity was division based it was a a lot more fun. 2021 was the best year for it. You would get progress for any player in that division. There were 5 big TA releases and some of the best cards were in those drops. This year it is an afterthought. The rewards are useless. And I guess this is the only TA for the year. I have a feeling there will be long stretches of nothing to do this season. I have enjoyed the game so far this season. I just hope they have something up their sleeves
