Making catch at 2nd base minigame

Is it ever possible to catch someone stealing? I'm like 2 months in as a 2nd baseman and I've never caught the runner stealing. They always make it as I'm moving the glove. Is this just a broken minigame or is it based on stats, and my mid 50s defensive stats don't cut it?

That mini game sucks, the easiest way is before the pitch move closer to the bag if you suspect a steal. Hold your stick toward the base and once pitch goes you will start moving if you get there early enough it won’t trigger 90% of the time because you give the catcher a good target.
