Start Today feature is my deal breaker

This feels like a bare minimum for a sports game in 2026, but especially baseball with the 162 game season and amount of roster flux. It doesn't need to be every week, but the option to start with current rosters/stats/standings at certain points in the year (AS break, Sept callups, etc) would make the experience so much better and immersive.
Also, its small and stupid but not being able to sort players when doing a Fantasy Draft (or in FA) in franchise is insane. I get graphics lacking, but the menus, UI and quality of life features in this game are way behind the graphics by a mile.
-
I’ve always wanted them to do the live roster franchise/season mode. Whatever is going on in the league in real life (trades, injuries, call ups-downs, starters, lineups) goes on in your franchise.

That kinda defeats the purpose of it being YOUR franchise when it becomes everyone elses too.

I agree. The entire reason for franchise is I'm in my own unique franchise.

Exactly. And i can only imagine how much [censored] SDS would have to go through resetting everyones season without losing the day every time a trade or call up happens in real life.
-
That’s not what I’m saying. I was saying starting a franchise of your own but be able to turn on live roster updates throughout the MLB season. SDS already does this for an exhibition mode so it wouldn’t require any extra work. Things that would be unique still would be like stats, standings, wins/losses in your personal franchise. In theory, that setting could be turned on or off so you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to.
-
They started to go that route with the new franchise and roster with injuries.
Would / could be the same thing, just a daily roster update ( or even weekly would suffice ).
Keeps everyone happy
-
Yes! Spot on. They conduct live roster updates for the exhibition mode every 2 weeks I’m pretty sure. Doesn’t have to be daily. But being able to do that in franchise rather than the roster being locked in from opening day would be better. Because every year, when I start a franchise, some prospects are nowhere to be found.
-
That's why I prefer the ability to import a player into an existing franchise.
I know there's caps, and can edit, but the stats aren't accurate.

But live roster updates for your franchise would involve manipulating the save data of every person playing franchise.

I can understand having multiple updates for starting the franchise but once the franchise is locked I am not sure how they would do that. They would have to keep track of everyone's state. Who you have promoted, demoted, traded, signed, drafted, etc.
Lets say you are using the Yankees and all of a sudden, in real life, Judge gets hurt and is out for the season.
-
Do you really want Judge removed from your roster because he was removed from the 40 man roster in real life.
-
If Judge is removed from the 40 man due to injury then who replaces him. What if you had traded the player they called up? How would they handle that?
-
What if you are in Year 3 of your Franchise? Do you really want 2026 updates to affect your Franchise in 2029?
-
What if your team traded a player two weeks ago and the real MLB team traded that player today? Do they overwrite your previous trade?
I just see way too many potential drawbacks to make roster updates on already existing franchises feasible. After all isn't the whole point of franchise to give the player total control.
-
-
Yes absolutely. You make some really great points especially regarding injuries. If we could somehow cut live roster (injuries) off. So that way stats, W/L’s, injuries only happen within the universe of the game. I’d say just access to updated rosters. This is a really far out concept that I really don’t think would ever happen, just speaking in hypothetical. But if it were to be an option for us I think it’s important to make it only as an option when setting up a franchise to have it be on or off.
Kind of like how CPU roster control works. If you cut that on and turn trades off, we can move players around already and update it manually ourselves if we want that experience. My only issue at this point are the rookies, prospects, and players in the free agents. Sometimes they’re lost or don’t even exist when the game releases and I think if we had this live roster system then they could be accessed mid season
I respect and understand franchise mode will look differently for everyone. But having the most flexibility to create what all people want individually is not a bad vision. Not a guarantee, just a wishlist for conversation.
-
Not for the players who choose to keep it off. Hypothetically speaking, if this were an option that’s all it would be. A choice to turn it on, a choice to keep it off. It would look like this,
Franchise settings:
Live roster updates : On/Off
Live roster Injuries: On/Off
So on and so forth. To give us the option to create a more detail oriented vision of our franchise for more immersion and realism, or a casual experience. Whatever we’d like. -
Can we import players into franchise now? Or you’re saying you’d rather it just be something like that rather than full on Live roster update options?

I would like this feature
-
They already do it for over 500,000 accounts through exhibition daily rosters all year 162 games even through the postseason. It’s the same file, same process, just drop it franchises that have the features turned on. It would be in their coding software. Once live rosters update, locate franchise files with it turned on, boom, updates automatically
-
Me too. At the minimum I think this is a great start. To be able to import a player or updated live rosters from the vault mid season would be a great fix to this as well if SDS couldn’t handle it

Since when is there a save file for exhibition games? Theres no exhibition franchise. Again, its always the people who dont understand how this [censored] works that say [censored] like "All they gotta do is make some code, drop it into everyones console and boom thats it".
In order for them to access YOUR save file on YOUR console, there would probably need to be lawyers involved as that would basically be hacking. Doing that thousands of times during the season would most definitely be more trouble than its worth.
-
They don’t have to “make some code” and it doesn’t “drop in the console”. The code already exists. You can go see it in exhibition live rosters right now. You can play any game from last year with any team with live updated rosters at the date and time of the MLB game. That updates automatically for everyone that currently owns MLB the show, which is a lot. Were saying they should make it an option in franchise settings (which would be saved in your franchise file) to allow live roster updates to your franchise. So if you have that settings turned on, then it will automatically update for you. If you don’t, then it will not happen.
