How well do you know your 2025 DD card sources? Quiz time...
-
There are a handful of you that will know this stuff right away - @dolenz_mlbts and @savefarris_mlbts are the two on here who know "data" better than anyone.
I'm pulling this data from the "MLB the Show API's" straight into Excel. If anyone wants to know how to do that, I'd be happy to throw together a quick YouTube video (or maybe even a Teams meeting) to walk you through it. Let me know if you're interested.
That said... some quiz questions. Try not to load up the game before answering these - just see if you can get close with a guess.
I'll post my answers later. If my answers are wrong, I'm sure Dolenz and Savefarris will correct me.
- How many cards were earnable by playing "Showdown"? I'm sorry if this triggers bad memories from the Spring...
- How many cards were available solely by "Collections"? Every single collection...
- How many cards were available by "Exchanges"?
- How many cards were in the Battle Royale program?
- How many cards were available in the Multiplayer program?
- How many Spotlight cards are in the game? All of them... earnable and in packs.
- How many Diamond Quest cards? Of those, how many were NOT available in the market (earnable only)?
- How many cards were earnable by "Missions"? Think "Mini-Seasons".
- How many cards were earnable by playing Conquest maps?
- How many Cornerstone cards are there?
-
Actually I would fail this. The only ones I have easy access to the data is part 1 of Question 6 and Question 10.
The game and the API data does a really bad job with the Acquired Via information. Still, you now have me wondering if I should try and add a report for that field.

The "Items" API that I'm using has a column for "Locations". It looked pretty accurate, but I may have filtered some stuff incorrectly.

Wild guesses are acceptable/encouraged!

It has the fields sure, but I guess my biggest complaint is that it is all high level. It will say Collection for example but give you no idea which collection.
That said, as I type I am also seeing if I can get the AI to come up with a Decent report for it because I do have that data in my program
Here is the data my program came up with (I removed the totals to not help with the quiz).

I'm curious to see if we match, but I'll defer to your totals

-
Defer to his totals?
HOW DARE YOU!

I assumed you looked at the title of this post and just said to yourself "How well do you know your 2025..." and thought... "Amateurs".
-
Actually, I looked at the original post and started doing calculations in my head.
A fun bonus question: How many player cards were never able to be earned or purchased (and name them).
-

never able to be earned or purchased
Hmmm... I know some that can't be purchased, but can't "earn" them? I'll have to think about that.

That baffled me but as I was getting ready to say that it did not make sense but then I think it dawned on me.
Are we talking about cards that were gifted to us? For example the Judge card we just got can not be earned or purchased, right?
I know there have been a couple of those. Now my earlier message said there were 42 cards that had no entry in the location field so maybe it's some of those? But I don't believe it is that many.
-
What are the current "dead" cards that will never be available again?
Ted Williams
the two holiday FinestI assume there are more
The WC cards will eventually be effectively dead as well, but technically possible for people to sell. Dominguez is the only short term risk though

Can't be Earned OR can't be Purchased...
or...
Can't be Earned AND can't be Purchased?
For example, you can't purchase Cornerstones, but can earn them. I'm guessing it's the 2nd option...
-
Since it looks like no one is willing to venture a guess, here's what I have for answers. @dolenz_psn @savefarris_psn , let me know where we differ...
- How many cards were earnable by playing "Showdown"? I'm sorry if this triggers bad memories from the Spring... 12
- How many cards were available solely by "Collections"? Every single collection... 202 (I was surprised it was this many)
- How many cards were available by "Exchanges"? 2
- How many cards were in the Battle Royale program? 25
- How many cards were available in the Multiplayer program? 64
- How many Spotlight cards are in the game? All of them... earnable and in packs. 146
- How many Diamond Quest cards? Of those, how many were NOT available in the market (earnable only)? 28/4
- How many cards were earnable by "Missions"? Think "Mini-Seasons". 38
- How many cards were earnable by playing Conquest maps? 18
- How many Cornerstone cards are there? 30
-
I wasn't going to be able to answer most of them even with my program. The only ones I was confident about were the two questions about Spotlight and Cornerstone cards

Isn't BR 0?

Isn't BR 0?
I think there were specific BR rewards. I couldn't get any of them until they showed back up in the Multiplayer program. For example, 98 Mickey Mantle All-Star.
-
Double Checking @mariomendoza935_xbl :
- Showdown - 12
- Collections - I've only got 142. Are you counting some Team Affinities?
- Exchanges - 2
- Battle Royale - 15
- Multiplayer - 44 program cards, 20 World Series rewards
- Spotlight - 72 in packs, 54 via program, 19 Collects = 145
- Diamond Quest - 50/4
- Miniseasons - 29
- Conquest - 18
- Cornerstone - 30 (27 via program, 3 via XP Path)
Bonus: Neither Earnable nor Purchasable - 5
Finest Bregman (Christmas Pack)
Contributor Wilson (Free Wilson Pack)
Topps Now Judge (MLB 26 Pack)
