How did I get the loss?

This has happened multiple times now. How do I throw 3 scoreless innings for 1 or 2 hits (hits in the early innings) with nobody on base. Then get relived at the end of the 8th, and cop the loss, the last time it happened was not even the 9th innings, it was the 10th.
I'm an Aussie, I love the game but this has me stumped.
