X Button Swing Not Registering in Specific Locations (Definitely Not User Error)
-
Hey everyone — wondering if anyone else is running into this issue.
I'm on PS5, and when playing MLB The Show 25 in Diamond Dynasty online, I'm noticing that every 10 pitches or so, my X button swing input just doesn’t register at all. This only happens when pitches are located middle-in to left-handed hitters or middle-out to right-handed hitters.
At first I thought I was just getting froze, or only thought I was pressing x, but it happens regularly and consistently on pitches only in that location. Then I thought it was my controller, but I tested it on hardwaretester.com with no issues.
To be clear — this is not user error. I'm not a good hitter, but I'm 100% sure I'm fully pressing the X button in time when the glitch occurs, and there's no check swing or partial animation. It's like the game just doesn’t recognize the input. There’s no issue with the controller itself in other games or offline modes in The Show. I’ve tested it in Custom Practice and Challenge of the Week with the same pitch locations and had zero problems.
Some details:
Console: PS5
Mode: Diamond Dynasty online only
Connection: 265 Mbps down / 10 Mbps up / 25ms ping, wired to Verizon 5G Home Internet
Controller: Standard DualSense, works perfectly in other contexts
This seems like either a netcode/input-buffering issue or some strange desync tied to pitch location. It’s making ranked games really frustrating because I’ll completely miss hittable pitches through no fault of my own.Has anyone else experienced this? Is SDS aware?

It might be related to 5G home Internet. These types of services have a history of weird behaviour in The Show for those that can play (some can’t). Maybe the 5G or LTE service has higher latency and/or dropped packets than a fiber or cable connection. Hard to say. But I’ve never heard of that problem before.
What throws a wrench in that hypothesis though is the specific pitch location. Have you tried uninstalling?
-
Yeah, exactly what I thought. The specific location makes me think it's a software issue. And, yes, the 5G ain't ideal for The Show. I haven't uninstalled but I'll try that later today. Thanks for the suggestion.

So, I uninstalled/reinstalled this morning. Jumped into a vs CPU game and... same deal. Middle-away pitches to righties/middle-in to lefties is not registering the input in DD.

Only other thing would be try custom mapping your controller from PS5 home menu screen. Could swap X with Square and see what happens.
-
@MrNintendo_MLBTS or Circle but I understand your frustration because normal only swing I use myself.
-
Hadn't thought of that- I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip.
Yeah, I was gonna say I could test contact and power swings, too, while I'm at it.

@thee-kidd-is-hot_PSN oh vs CPU too? I thought it was only during online games; geez

Yeah, not just ranked but all modes in Diamond Dynasty including single player. Non-DD, offline modes like custom practice and Challenge of the Week are not affected.
Since you have to be connected to the internet in any Diamond Dynasty mode I thought it might be something wrong with my network connection. I'm no expert, but the fact that the bug/glitch only occurs in a specific pitch location leads me to believe it's a software issue.

@thee-kidd-is-hot_PSN probably; you might have to backup and wipe out the entire console to factory settings and reinstall everything. If you care enough to go through that pain.
-
@yankblan_PSN No I wouldn’t do that! Too extreme and the time to reinstall everything! Borrow a pS5 controller from a buddy maybe?

Oof, I sure hope not. If I could definitively rule everything else out then maybe. I mean, I have lots of other games installed but only play this one.

Good idea. I still have quite a few hardware/network variables to rule out.
