The community wanted this. Almost every tweet they put put late asked for his 99 or the cover.

@nymets1987_PSN, yes... young marketable stars. Just like the people from Love is Blind. "Marketable" and "star" don't necessarily equate to actually being all that good, anymore.
And I'm not throwing shade at you, personally; please don't get me wrong, there. I'm just a little salty about De La Cruz in particular being chosen. Skenes had a really good year by most metrics, and the same with Henderson; De La Cruz seems to be on pace to break the major league strikeout record, struggles to be below average at fielding his position, and with all his flash and speed and power, only managed a 118 wRC+... almost on par with the Athletics' JJ Bleday, but not quite.
Maybe he figures it out and actually does go on to be a really good ballplayer. He certainly seems like a likeable person, and I'm not rooting for him to fail, but when are we going to start insisting that people earn their accolades before claiming they're headed for greatness? It just seems like people, in general, are so eager for the next big thing that we forget to give credit to those who are currently performing well.

Or Rookie of the year. Gunner and Skenes over Ely. Just like didn't think Jazz should have been.
Judge really should have been on the cover. I don't care if you need to have every team get a player. Why give out a trophy for being bad or average.
Even having Barry Bonds on the cover, while being unlikely, would be a better cover athlete for the deluxe edition since he is number 25.
If it costs SDS more to get his license so be it. They will sell a lot more copies.
You have to spend money so make money.
Plus why have small market players on the cover who don't deserve it.
