Advice for becoming a better hitter
-
Most content creators seem to point in the direction of get a monitor, use kontrol Greeks, use precision ring, etc. Take pitches and work the count, maybe even sit on a pitch in a particular zone until 2 strikes if you're on higher difficulties, if you struggle with fastball up and in then anchor the pci where you struggle, etc.
All that is right and good and I think great to start with.
My advice isn't my idea, something I've heard plenty but I've applied it for the past few months.
Master the leg kick timing
I tried this in years past but never really stuck to it cause it was hard at first and I was having a hard time picking up the ball, swinging at strikes, all while looking at my players stride.
This year I've stuck to it because it's been easier to keep up with content I guess but it's made a huge difference. I'm far from elite but I am 35-0 in ranked this year so I halfway know something about the game.
I haven't mastered the strides yet but I've gotten pretty good about viewing them in my peripheral and I use players in practice mode that I use in online games. I don't adjust my ranked squad too frequently.
I've found guys like David Wright who have a real quick toe tap are impossible to do this with but trout, marte, posada are much easier to get used to
I know some people will look at batters hands for timing like gehrig and Jimmie Foxx in the past but that I found hard to get used to.
If you're out of content for the year and just want to improve hitting id recommend going into events and practice mode with hitters you like and work on this even if you start out hitting worse initially.
If you look at a replay of a perfect perfect Homerun you can see how your players swing is loaded and how the front foot landing and swing coming through are synced up
I'm a nobody with no lifetime top 100 resume but this has helped me alot and thought it could help others if looking for something to pass the time into 2025

Can you explain in a little more detail what exactly you look for?

This is great stuff.
Thanks for sharing. -

I don't think I can explain it much better but if you go into practice mode and find a guy with a higher leg kick like trout, biggio, etc. If you time when he's placing his foot down on the ground then the hands are going through the zone at the exact same time.
Go in a game on rookie mode and just hit a HR perfect perfect then analzye the swing, what where the foot is hitting the ground when you're making contact with the ball
I'd pick one batter and use practice mode then set it to inside fastballs until you get the timing down....then switch to strikes inside and outside
Most the batters are different with their kicks, I think trout/tatis/biggio are really good for this method. Joc Pederson for example has a crazy high weird leg kick that I have a hard time with...David Wright I think has almost a slide step and is hard to time with different pitch speeds...I'm good with gehrig but he has a fairly low leg kick too.
I think you've gotta try it out in practice mode on a few players with decent leg kicks in their stride

Interesting, I don't pay attention to the leg kick at all . I try to be a little late on the fastball. It helps me lay off the off speed
-
Changeups kill me. That might be a good way to get the timing down better for them.

Wow. I hardly ever look at the leg kick, but I will now! I've heard people mention this, so it makes sense. However, i still have PCI placement issues, though. If I could ever solve them.....
-
On strikezone view, you can’t really see any leg kick but when the pitchers front foot hits the ground is usually the time you want to swing for their fastball. So if I can’t catch up to 102 I just watch the pitchers foot and sit

Depends on the hitter but you should be able to see most all hitters stride in strike zone view

If you slam you can try precision rings... I use the green ones. After a while they break in but it's just harder to move pci as aggressively....like the stride it takes a little while to get used to and hard to use your fielders at first compared to how joystick typically feels

I have tried them, but they mess with fielding a bit. I may try again. It's ridiculous how many pitches I'm on with timing, but off on the PCI.

First few games I was taking the rings off while on defense but they eventually ripped. They aren't the most durable things....but I think you just get used to pushing the joystick real light for your fielders to sprint after the ball....with the rings you gotta push harder. Once you get used to it you just naturally push harder.
But yeah my first time using rings I felt like I was pushing hard and my fielders were jogging to routine flyballs and they'd drop in.

@ref479ode_PSN do you use a monitor?
-
I play only on Legend vs the cpu.
I need players with vision over 100.Why? Because they help me become more patient and get better pitches to hit.
Try to get your Chase rate at 25 or below. Mlb average is 28.
I do not get many perfect/perfects moving my pci to the edges but get my share when I get 3-1 and 3-2 counts.
Swinging at strikes at any game difficulty is the premium attribute and it starts with your eyes.

It's funny you mention David Wright. I'm not saying I time his toe tap, but I personally love it.
He's shockingly a good card for me after not being able to hit with him in past years

I'm done playing for the year I think, but im curious what your starting lineup you use for this method? Ive heard of ppl using this before, but never really tried since i use a cubs theme team
