This may be a dumb question, but does the computer randomly determine if you make an error or is it something you may have done? Just wondering because at times it seems I’m perfectly placed to get a grounder at 3rd and all of a sudden boom out of the glove. My defense says I’m an above average defender

It's all about your reaction on plays you're fielding. The only I've noticed random errors applied to my players is for players that either my catcher or 1st baseman doesn't field because it's supposed to be a "routine" play and settings set to only field difficult/Showtime moments prevent you from fielding routine plays.

I have seen evidence in MLB 24, at least three months ago, where the game code appears to assign an error to your RTTS player well after the game ends. I was playing an RTTS season as a two-way player who played two out of every five games in left field, and was the starting pitcher who was DH on those starts as well as the other two games not starting.

In playing the field as pitcher and left fielder, I did not have any error tallied against my play during any game. But, in reviewing my stats I suddenly saw where I was assigned a fielding error, which genuinely surprised me. So, I went back and found a game I played left field two months prior (in game timeline) where I was assigned an error and there was no error assigned by the time the game actually ended.

I suspect it was a case of a throw to the infield that perhaps eluded the cutoff man, but was fielded by the player who backed him up and no base advance resulted. In the actual game rules, if there is no base advance, then there is no error. I recall in that game, a single was hit and I fielded and threw the ball to the cutoff man, and it went a bit wide and the pitcher fielded the catch and the runner remained at first.

Again, by the rules of the real game, that's not an error. And it wasn't ruled an error during the game and not tallied in the box score immediately after the game ended.
