Season 2 Awards Drop 1 Missions

There are two missions for Season 2 Awards Drop 1 "With Season awards Series players get 500 PXP and "Get 10 Ks with "Season Awards Series pitchers". I don't want to buy the pack in the shop and hope to get one of the Season Awards pitchers. Shouldn't I be able to wild card a Season 1 Awards pitcher to get the PXP and strikeouts? I tried doing this with Tanner Houck in conquest and I didn't get any stats or PXP. The conquest said I had a Season 2 eligible squad. Do you not get stat credit for cards that you wild card? If so, how can I complete the program without buying a pack or card on the market? Am I missing something?
