Why the "old days" of MLBTS are never coming back
-
@OGTKCole The Problem is game modes likeDD or the ultimate teams
If we would go back to online franchise only, that would massively benefit all sport games. Cause that way games can be skill based again and not RNG based.
Only game company would stop makin money so prob never gonna happen

You paid [censored] near $100 for an MLB marketing app.
I see your point. It used to be "buy a game and play it as you want for as long as you want".
Now, with all games it seems, "you get the "base" stuff, but if you want more, you'll have to pay for it".
Like @chucky97____PSN said, MLBTS is still pretty "friendly" to us who don't want to spend money beyond the original game. I'll be curious to see what MLBTS 2030 looks like. I'm so old, I might be dead by then
-
@arvcpa agreed. Wonder if they have to pay players more now since the Lockout for name and likeness.

@arvcpa mlb the show is still highly no money spent friendly.
Agreed … maybe not in the first few weeks, when only a few could make stubs from grinding BR to fill out collections to the getting the cards from packs … Right now, I can afford every card there is

That is not a new trend.
True - just thought it was interesting to point it out. MLBTS was pretty "no-money-spent" friendly up until last year, and is moving more and more towards pushing microtransactions. SDS certainly won't go back to the old model.
Yes, but let‘s be clear. Every company is making lots of money with this and this goes for smartphone gaming, Fortnite and simply every game that is doing microtransactions. Otherwise they would not do it. I accepted this because otherwise I could not play the game. Since I am bad at the game no awesome card would make me win more games (skill matters ). So in that regard: everything is fine, I do not have problems with microtransactions

It feels like for 24 new management took over DD. Feels like it's not the same people who've run/managed it the last 4 years. It does feel they're going towards more of a EA/2K model. It's not that bad yet but they're going that way.
-
@arvcpa my problem is it is the only sports game where the odds are as bad as they are. There are no "jackpot" items like madden where you can pull a 1.5 mil card and make up for every pack you've ever opened. It's literally 40k packs that have worse odds than a casino. If I opened $1000 worth of packs and I played $1000 of roulette I can promise you the roiling will be better on the $1000 on roulette.

@AdeptOfMemory what if one was gifted the game (ie didn’t buy it or subscribe to Game Pass or anything) and then didn’t buy stubs. Could they claim no money spent?
-
Don't forget, EA is considering in-game ads, however that might work. When you think it can't get any worse, they say, "hold my beer".
-
@Warpedzilla
Sad part is, this would surprise absolutely nobody who's familiar with EA's practices. They'd take their grandma's purse while she was napping.
-
This is sadly the last year of MLB the show for me. It’s clear the direction they are taking DD in and it’s only gonna get worse from here. I’ll try and enjoy the game for what it is this year but I’m already bored of it and probably just gonna quit once s2 starts
-
@OGTKCole Bruh just go get money and spend it! Sell some lemonade or something dude! $75 is super mega cheap chump change for a digital card that expires quicker than your license. Bruh, money is material, The Show is eternal!
-
@Red_Ted_is_back I am just going to assume you're being genuine and answer accordingly:
It is third degree no money spent. Meaning YOU didn't spend money but SDS still got what they needed for that copy. They still made $80 and they don't see that it was given to YOU as a gift. They see someone spent full price and that there is a user out there who they can profit off of even more since "you didn't spend money, you would be more likely to spend it now".
It's not a first degree no money spent. That's someone buying the game then claiming to be no money spent. -
@AdeptOfMemory judging how others spend their disposable income on the forum of a video game?
You truly are a sad person. Seek help.
-
@BJDUBBYAH judging? Where did I say they were wrong for spending money on what they want? I do think it's irresponsible to give SDS money but it's not mine. Now if you're spending your money on truly nefarious things then yeah I'll judge.
Also, thank you. I love that you care about me.

Seek help dude. You’re yelling at someone in every thread. It’s a video game.

@BJDUBBYAH I'm sorry what do you do here?

His full time job is to sit on these forums and valiantly defend the game for SDS. He makes a grand salary of $0 a year doing this. At least mommy brings him tendies to the basement still.

She does, and they’re great! Thanks for the shout out to my mom!

Oh - I agree 100%. I'll be curious to see if they stay that way.
I doubt they will. They've taken incremental steps towards pay to play for the past few years. It's easier to hide it if it's done piece by piece instead of all at once.
