Again, I loved last year’s version. I never did, and never will understand the hate towards it.
I had no opinion on last year one way or another, aside from not being thrilled with sets.
22 was probably my favourite set up, with all the various collections. (Veteran, Allstar, Rookie, Post-Season etc)

@YOSHI24 What isn’t bad this year? This isn’t a few vocal complainers. It’s not just this forum either. Go look at the comments on any social media post from SDS. All of those things you mentioned are a problem and them some. This is the worst version they’ve put out since DD started.

@GoozeFn
Yoshi is one of those few that would support SDS if they changed the game from baseball to curling. He refuses to acknowledge the game is in a bad state and was dramatically more rewarding and player friendly just a couple of years ago.

Thinking of last year's game still just frustrates the heck out of me. I gave up and got a second job. I am not even joking one bit. The programs in '23 were so time-consuming that you had to devote countless hours to the game and it was not designed like this year's game where you could make progress in multiple ways. Most programs were very specific and 99% of the program needed to be completed offline. Not to mention the 99s from day one just made everything seem pointless after just a few weeks. I accidentally logged on to '23 the other day and had $2.5 million stubs I never used. I stopped playing in May and never looked back. As frustrating as this game is, I would still prefer it over '23.
The biggest problem with this year is max overcorrection. Yes, the pack thing is an issue and glitches are an issue, but they went from having the most time-consuming programs possible to almost taking them out of the game entirely. It is no wonder people get frustrated every year when they just overcorrect one year to the next. That behavior is going to bring out the most emotional feelings.
-
In other words, SDS has no real vision. It's just trying to keep the mob happy while monetizing.
How's that working for them?
-
If they don't do a Shark Map this year... well... I don't even know...

I think this is a really good assessment of the game's evolution, and as good a reason as any for all the vitriol. I still think people should simmer down a bit and realize that this isn't the type of thing that should spark puerile fits of rage, but I suppose the most feral among us will always scream the loudest.
I think it's also why some people (at least me, if I'm not reading the room correctly) are throwing our opinions into the ring; another overcorrection is the last thing needed, and if unchecked vociferance is interpreted as accordance, that's exactly what we'll get.

It’s crazy, the way they took the grind out the game, took cards and put them in packs at 40,000 stubs. And apart from this the hitting the pitching is horrible. I been playing this game since 2016 and this is by far the worst I have seen.

You are salty about this, man
I actually do get where you're coming from, and I do agree that there should be more paths to stubs earned in-game... I just don't think they should be so plentiful that we don't have to make decisions as to which cards we keep. This is a me thing, for sure, but I like to approach it almost as if I'm making GM decisions about my team; if that shiny new CF looks like a card I'd like to have, then I might have to sell another card in my lineup to get it. But, then again, I've been an A's fan for nearly 45 years, so trying to put a team together with peanuts and found pennies feels like home.
Besides, keeping "the mob happy while monetizing" seems to be how the world works these days, and I don't begrudge any company from dipping their quill in that well, particularly when they're asked to constantly provide new content and make improvements throughout an entire release cycle after making a one-time sale. I mean, they need some degree of monetization to do that... I guess I'm okay with that; I think it's unreasonable to expect hundreds of hours of entertainment for $69.99.

They are never going to get the right amount grind in the game because every player will have a different opinion of how much is too much or too little.

I am.
And regarding the "everybody's doing it" argument, I guess.
But SDS WASN'T, to the degree that EA and 2K were. They balanced monetization with respect for the base, and this year it's the opposite.
Regarding last year, I actually respect what they tried to do. The first season was great, but the very concept was bound to have problems that weren't fixable, and those cringe card series just turned me off.
My main point was basically: audience capture. I would respect SDS more if they had a clear, compelling vision for DD instead of "responding to community feedback" all the time. To be fair, it'll take next year's game to see this play out, since this year is a course correction of sorts.
I love baseball and video games. This is really the last game I get excited about at launch, and it's a bitter pill to swallow.

Outside of this forum nobody thinks they gameplay is good this year including most content creators

Thats why the answer (in my opinion) is to make grinds feel more optional.
Ranked track is the perfect example. 100 stars is the main goal, and last year I stopped at 100 stars every time.
This year I went to 150, not only because there was nothing else to do, but I was motivated by the fresh start pack and a nice chunk of other packs along the wayI think there were two big problems last year:
-People didnt think the cards were rewarding enough. How often was their a card in them that would make people's teams?
-The collection rewards were a different story, thus making all the programs feel mandatorySo the god squadders had to do content for cards they didnt want, and a lot of it
At the same time, a large portion of players liked the amount of content, and didnt mind doing it all. But nobody was particularly happy with the rewards most of the time
This is where all those stupid packs can actually help: Put them at the end of programs, make them grindy to get, and then people have a CHOICE: grind or stubs. Lots of people will still take the latter aproach, but feel less gross about it than they do now.

I think the gameplay is great. If I were on legend I might think differently, but like 99% of the playerbase I am not.
I do think, as a pulse pitcher, its worse than last year but its still great

I don't know why you would want to double down on that, sure.
I could say outside of these of these forums most people think Barry Bonds was not good without steroids.
Both statements make us look foolish

The hitting rewards too many bad swings, the defenders take bad jumps even with high fielding, pitchers hang too many pitches on good and perfect releases, content stinks, and the online is as lag tastic as ever. It’s not a good product I don’t know how people can claim otherwise

I don't know how someone invests 168 hours of the last 3 weeks of their time, using a product that they say sucks?
