PS5 Controller suddenly lags, but only when hitting, and only sporadically - help!

I just took my controller apart to flip the left stick upside down because of wear. I have done this before. Disassembly and reassembly went fine, controller seems to work perfectly, pitching with meter using the buttons, no problem. But hitting using button inputs and there is crazy lag and sometimes won't swing at all, and other times, works perfectly, and this is online and offline. No changes to any other settings or the network or anything, I'm plugged into a high speed cable modem.
Where did it all go wrong?

You can check if you are up to date on the controller software. It’s under settings, accessories, controller.
