Please don't bring back Sets in MLB 24
-
It sucks that Sets LITERALLY ruins the grind like bro I grinded my [censored] off to get good cards that I need to use just for it to not be "Season eligible". People like myself thought that Sets would work well in MLB The Show but NOOOO it did not at all.
Sets is basically a microtransaction strategy that a lot of people did not notice at all and they did it in Seasons 1 through 3 they had programs that reward with 97 overall cards as the "main reward" except for POTM and then keep dropping really good 99 overall cards in PACKS. Remember when we all thought they're gonna put Elly De La Cruz as a 99 Topps Now reward just like Kenley and Kimbrel well they put that dude in a CHASE PACK. SDS then clutched up by adding Team Affinity into its own collection but sadly they are Set cards so basically I grinded for Corbin Carroll just to not use him later on because of Sets and yes I used Adley as my Wild Card cus he's Adley.
San Diego Studios if you are seeing this PLEASE get rid of Sets and also start dropping some more programs with 99 Overall Cards because ever since clutch became important almost every 97 and 98 overall card is useless and also please drop 99s left and right. If you want more diversity into a player's roster then get rid of Sets drop a bunch of 99s in every new season or program and everyone's team would look different. I said that because when Sets were activated starting from Season 3 every player I faced nearly had the same team as other players did but when I played MLB 22 which has no Sets my opponents had so many different lineups and pitchers.
The reason why MLB 21 and 22 had players stay on the game longer than MLB 23 is because we weren't forced to grind just to become "Season eligible". I like MLB The Show with no Sets is because I feel rewarded for grinding to have a good team instead of being forced to grind 2-3 times just to be "Season eligible"
Please don't bring back Sets in MLB 24.
I want to grind the game to be rewarded with a good team instead of being forced to grind to have a good team multiple times which doesn't feel rewarding.

I doubt they are going to scrap the idea after 1 year. With every season they tinkered with things a bit and w2021 and 2022 were
-
@Invinitee its a video game you make it seem like its unbearable. SO you couldnt use the same cards from launch at the start of the year oh no! They game tried something different, Sets are awesome, I loved 99s day one, DD isnt ment to be played with low overall cards.
-
@chucky97___ If they wanna keep Sets then they can at least make the Set collection cards as Core cards
-
@Invinitee why what's the purpose of a wild card spot then? What would be the purpose of even upgrading your team if in 3 sets you ad 9 core cards they were stacked 99 god tier end game player type cards?
-
@Invinitee I think they should make manager cards instead of captains and let the managers be boosts.

Expiring cards, within an annual game cycle, is not "awesome".Not being able to keep a theme team due to half of your lineup being expired, is not "awesome".
Not being able to p5 a card in competitive gameplay because its expired, is not "awesome".
Having to grind, or purchase, three versions of the same card, is definately not "awesome".
You do not have to have Sets or expiring cards in order to have 99's Day 1. Sets were implemented for the sole purpose of more revenue.

@xElRojo44x
Absolutely spot on. Chucky has been a very strong supporter of SDS since day 1 on this forum this year. One of the few remaining white knights willing to defend SDS to death. Everything you said was valid and Chucky will disagree with anything that puts SDS in a negative light. All of us that love baseball and really enjoyed this game at one time see the negative path SDS is heading down and when we call it out for what it is we get labeled and told to just “get good” and stop complaining. In the end a huge amount of players won’t be back in 24 and SDS is counting on new players to fill the gap. It’s a shame buts it’s the path that leads to the most revenue borrowing a page from the EA playbook.
-
@TripleH-4481 Again you're showing how much you've never played an EA Sports game. THIS GAME IS no where near EA's level of pay 2 win. We want better and new legends, guess what SDS needs more money to pay them, I'm not white knighting, I'm just saying this game you all complain about isn't near that level, its a video game not a job.
-
@xElRojo44x Sets were implemented because SDS was trying to get players to have more team diversity, they failed on execution but the sets process is there, they need to execute better so there's less repeats. Sets made every new season feel like it was launch day.

I don't think they'll work if they drop a bunch of 99s Day One. But then you will have people complaining that the cards aren't rated high enough or they won't want to grind for low end cards.
It's just like you mentioned: Some will complain.

I think Seasons screwed up Sets. Seasons could have been 3 seasons long. Season 1 up to the All-Star Break, Season 2 through the Postseason, Season 3 - The "Forever" Season. Sets 1, 2, 3 be used in Season 1. Sets, 4, 5, 6 (If there is a set 6) Season 2. And All available for Season 3. Would've given more time for each Set to be viable...The Lull at the All Star Break is the perfect time to do the last minute heavy grind to finish a season before the new one starts.
You can still have your breaks where the Sets Change to implement different types of cards
-
I don't think sets and seasons are, at their core, a bad idea but I do believe that they were not well implemented this year.
We have to face facts as players.
-
They are never going to have enough unique players in the game to cover 6 sets without a large number of repeats. We can all say "Go sign more legends." but history shows that won't happen.
-
Going back to the old method is going to mean they go back to their practice of ramping up their overalls throughout the year to keep it interesting. We'd go back to 85-87 in the first month, then 87-89 the next month etc.
-
There will be some large group of players who will always be dissatisfied. That is not a new thing this year. It is kind of arrogant to think that my ideas or your ideas to improve the game is going to be well received by all players.
In the end what really matters to SDS are their metrics. They should have the metrics to judge how well the game is or isn't doing this year compared to previous years. Are players staying engaged, are they completing programs, taking part in Ranked Seasons or events, are they completing collections. Are they spending their stubs? Are they buying stubs? Are they buying packs? Those metrics will be the determining factor on the future of sets and seasons far more than complaints on the forum
