Pitching PXP
-
For a while now, I've felt that pitchers can earn more PXP by putting in an RP in the 6th and a CP in the 7th for 3 innings. My thought process was that the RP gets points for the Hold and the CP gets points for the Save (regardless of the score difference).
Today, I decided to sit down and do the math.
While the concept is not completely wrong, it is wrong if the SP pitches a Shutout.
So, here are the numbers. These are all on Rookie vs CPU and not counting Ks:
SP pitches a CG SH with a QS: 440 PXP
SP pitches a CG with a QS: 415 PXP
SP pitches 5 innings: 405 PXP
SP pitches 6 innings with a QS: 270 PXP
SP pitches 6 innings: 260 PXPRP pitches 1 inning with a HD: 60
CP pitches 3 innings with a SV: 140The following scenarios give us the best results:
*** SP throws a CG SH with a QS.
*** If the SP doesn't have a SH by the fifth then put in an RP for the sixth and then a CP for the seventh for three innings to get the save.
Edit: Or, if the SP doesn’t have a shutout after the fourth, throw an RP in the fifth, and a different RP in the sixth. Then, as usual throw your CP in the seventh to ninth. You’ll get a second hold, and even more points. End edit.
Note: the RP only gets an HD if they preserve the lead and the CP gets the save by pitching three innings (and not blowing it).
Does this sound correct?

Hold qualification = Save Qualification but does not record final out of game and team never gave up lead
-
Strikeouts the pitchers throw would equate into this no?

Yes you’re correct in that it would but he stated in his OP that his points examples were baseline only with the strikeout points omitted for the sake of consistency

Right. But in the video game, the score difference doesn't matter.
If the final pitcher goes three innings without giving up the lead, they get the save, and the pitcher who threw the sixth gets the hold.
As a note, the second pitcher can go more than one inning (say the fifth and sixth) and still get the hold. Also, more than one pitcher can get a hold.
Give it a try. Have your starter throw four, two RPs throw one each, and a closer throw three. You get a win, two holds, and a save. That's even more points than my example above...I guess I should edit my original post...

There's not enough innings for all that if your starter goes 5 then you can't have 2 holds and a save with three RP, 2 RP would have to go in the 6th and the 7th which would mean that you can't get a save unless you have a 3 run lead or less and if your playing vs CPU then it's impossible for that because the closer would have to pitch the 7th, 8th and 9th, you would need 10 innings and games are only 9

Right. To get two holds, your starter goes four. I've edited my post. Thank you.

If your starter only goes 4...he doesn't get the win...the pitcher in the 5th gets the Win, 6th Hold, 7-9 save.

Did you try it?

@Blind_Bleeder
I mean, that's the rules of baseball. Starter has to go 5 innings to be credited with a win.
