This game is too hard
-
Even on All Star, this game is too difficult in online play. I’m not complaining. I’m still playing the game, and enjoying earning new cards. But objectively speaking, it’s too hard. I’m speaking about Ranked Seasons in particular, when the pitcher and hitter are usually equally matched (both 99s, as opposed to Events or BR).
My RS record is 50-30, so I’m probably slightly better than average. I’ve been playing Diamond Dynasty since 2015 and over those years, particularly in the last two iterations, the game has gotten exceedingly difficult to hit.
Pitch speeds are too fast, and timing windows are too small. Penalties for less than perfect PCI placement are too harsh. About the only bone they throw the offense on AS difficulty is the ability to foul off pitches and hope for a mistake on the next pitch. But the pitch speeds combined with the inability to check swing (checks were OP a few years ago. It’s gone too far in the other direction now) has made this game too hard.
Anyway, I’m still playing the game, and I’m not posting this in a moment of anger or frustration. But I think we have reached the difficulty threshold. The game cannot get any more difficult and retain users. It was the “Little Billy” complaints that got us to this point. Those of you who have played as long as I have and have been on the forums all those years know what I’m talking about.
Be careful complaining about the foul balls. Because when they make those swings and misses, the average player is done for.

You're 50 -30 the game isn't too hard.

Don’t be tired, bro, and don’t put words in my mouth. I didn’t say I should be undefeated, or that the game shouldn’t be challenging. I’m 51-30 and my average is like .230-something. What does that tell you?
I just played a guy who had everyone in his lineup to P5, with tons of homers and RBIs, but his highest batting average was .215 (Charisma Wander Franco). Most guys were between .140-.175 (including WBC Trout).
Take the streamers and goons out of the equation, and nearly everyone struggles to score runs. You think that’s how it should be? Twelve or more strikeouts every game? I don’t think a video game should play like that.

If a pitcher irl gets 12 strikeouts in a game, he’s going to get a Topps Now Moment and a five day supercharge. In RS 12 strikeouts happens every game. But people are going to say nothing is wrong?

This is a good point. I never thought about it along this line.
Granted I am in my 50s and losing my vision due to some shrapnel so I struggle to hit on a good day. I know that eventually I will be forced to use Directional. However, given all that, I am still about 20 games over .500 record wise.
I've been playing for many years and have only made WS twice so I know the "struggle".
I still enjoy playing though and I'm not certain I would want to be as good as some people are. Hitting HR after HR like some do and rarely ever losing is probably a lot like grinding stats on Rookie fir them. I'd like to be a little better and maybe make WS a bit more often but I still have fun for now.

Don't agree with this. This year has been the easiest it's ever been to hit. I play almost only on HOF on Ranked Seasons and I would say most of the time it takes more than 4-5 runs to win a game. I recently had a game where I had 16 hits and still got blown out. And I am no goon. I am 40 years old. Most teams I play against have mostly .300 or above averages.

this might be nitpicky but i wish there was a difficulty between veteran and all star

Yea im in same boat, around same record and bounce between 650- low 800s in RS. Timing windows between the two difficulties is a problem for me. I try to play all my offline stuff on HoF settings ie i did the FS conquest map on HoF so i wont be thrown off too much online. Doesnt really help though lol. That and im just getting older (48), cant hit A fast enuff.

I played a guy in RS (2020) last week who was 100 games over .500, had most of his guys with respectable, but not superhuman stats. I know I am a pretty bad hitter online and felt I would get squashed.
That guy had all that, and should have hammered me until I rage quit, but instead he went for the all cheese gameplay.
Stadium and time of day where lighting made it impossible to see the ball, quick pitched every time, forcing me to use time out and pause to try and slow it from a pitch in .01 seconds. Bunt cheese and Ryan was apparently his offensive game plan.
But this version of Ryan had 79 accuracy, so he walked several players, jacked up his pitch count quickly, then when his confidence meter was low grooved one to me for a three run bomb.
He didn't quit right away, but I think an inning or two later finally did.
Also, my record is about 9 games over .500. I would bet half my wins are because people had bad internet connection and dropped connection for the free win or rage quit on me.

it's why i stopped playing RS

That dude is 1-0 in RS. He can’t understand anything you say until he gets out of veteran difficulty, he only plays vs CPU, events and BR.
Edit: I wonder what is the reason he doesn’t play RS.

So in other words your hitting stats are on par with some mid to lower tier Major League Baseball clubs. And as you said you’re just about average to just above average player in this game. Am I missing something? Sounds like the game is playing just right for you as far as the skill aspect of the game. Just an unbiased observation here.

My unbiased opinion is that the game is too hard only when connection between players isn’t optimal and that happens more often than not. If SDS manages to fix the connectivity issues and foul balls the game will be so much better

Im an avg player, but my complaint is that it’s super easy to hit on all star, and it’s the difficulty on all DD online modes (except RS once you get to HOF). The amount of foul offs is silly, and always leads to bombs. We have been calling for a difficulty between AS and HOF ever since I joined the forums in 2019. Would be so nice.

Don’t forget bad calls by the umps in 2-2 counts. It usually leads to a 3-2 hanging pitch that gets hit for a homerun, when it doesnt it’s a walk and then a homerun.

I agree100% with the connection issues that why I believe that your connection to the game should be tested prior to entering into matchmaking of any sort. If you don’t meet a minimum standard you are returned to the lobby or timed out altogether to reestablish your connection. It’s not hard to implement as other games do this exact thing to maintain connection integrity between players. This would make people take responsibility for their poor connections and force them to fix it or forego the ability to play in head to head matchups. But that just my opinion and you know what opinions are like.

Lmao people on here are way too brain dead to understand if you are 50-30 with a .230 average the other players are hitting much lower and struggling even more.

Yes, I wish it was like this tbh, I’d also love to have matchmaking based on ping, if my ping is 0-30 make me play against people in the same range.
