Kidding aside, I love this post and agree whole heartedly. Most of you know I’m fairly optimistic about this game. 21 was my first year and they could have done just about anything and I would have loved it because the game was brand new to me, I remember as a kid putting lineups together on the carpet with my baseball cards and then running around the living room pretending to be Tony Gwynn and Ozzie Smith….the backflips didn’t go over well. The last baseball video game I played was High Heat in 2001 so to say this is an amazing step up is an understatement.
In 22, content took a hit with the loss of TA and around October, they kinda just stopped trying it seemed. Still, I enjoyed the game. Extreme was fun, the monthly programs were a lot more robust, Mini seasons a welcome addition when it worked.
This year, I have a mixed feeling. I’m so glad TA is back and unlike many, I still like the grind, probably because I’m still relatively new. Sets and seasons is fine by me because I don’t really play online plus I still think they have a contingency so people stay engaged. But I do see a pattern that bums me out (the obvious 97 and below program cards and the 99s in packs). The unsellable BR rewards for those of us who will never go 12-0. I am not in need of any participation trophies but it was an easy way to just skip online play this year. I’ll flip and buy.
Anyway, I don’t get the extremes people feel for this game. Like an ex who cheated on you with your brother. It’s not all that serious. Do they make poor choices or ones we don’t agree with? Obviously. Does it kill my enjoyment of the game? Not really.
But if they take TA away again I riot.

Just look at SDS themselves. They used to be much more involved with the community. The devs used to regularly come on here and have conversations with people in the community.
They started becoming more distant every year but it seemed like it was when Ramone got caught insulting the community on a live twitch stream they pretty much cut all communication. That led to “working as intended” comments which ticked a lot of people off.
I think the lack of communication between SDS has been frustrating for a lot of people and they feel like the only way they can get their attention is to make extreme criticisms. It doesn’t work and people know that, but their frustration is what’s talking, not logical suggestions.
It’s like little kids when they don’t get attention, they act out.
But yes, the root of how people interact online (or in general) nowadays is much deeper than that.
Not saying you’re wrong or challenging, just can’t remember when Ramone got caught insulting the community. Was it the working as intended line or before that? If it is that line you’re referring to the. Yeah, that was a bad bad move haha

I appreciate this post. I had a long response typed out but removed it because the contents don't need to be brought up or dwelled upon. @SchnauzerFace pretty much said it all.
The question is - how can we help those who are frustrated because they feel their voices aren't being heard? Ignore them? Feed their fury? Validate their issues? I don't know the right answer. For me, mentally, dismissing the rant posts and moving on is easier. They may have some valid points in them, but what does that type of post accomplish? In the past, I've tried addressing a few of them, but, my posts weren't all that helpful, so I have cut back and tried to respond to posts where I could be helpful (for the most part).

That schnauz is a pretty cool dude. I don’t want to start throwing around phrases like “the greatest living American hero,” mainly because I find it too limiting. I prefer something along the lines of “the bravest and most profound being in mankind’s past, present, and future.” I would also like to use the phrase “poet-warrior” if I can squeeze it in there organically.
(In all seriousness, thank you for the kind words! I have had the worst case of insomnia over the last 2.5 weeks, so i only have very vague memories of writing that post at about 3am. I think it was right after my alter ego started an underground fight club/domestic terrorist organization.)

The Stanford Prison Experiment and Jim Jones are two of the most morbidly fascinating events I can remember. There was a really good documentary about both, I’d need to look it up.

This is a perfect post for devs to communicate and interact with the community but they won’t. It’s gotten worse. They banned a streamer for comments about Ashley. Comments. The streamer in question can be over the top and does have issues with the game. But this sets a whole new precedent. Banning for exploits I get but banned for saying something however dumb it might be on their channel is crossing a line. They’ve come to a point where they enjoy trolling us instead of educating us on their plans. Working as intended. Last year I remember Rory dressing up and openly trolling the community on one of their push the button streams. The lack of communication and their push towards micro transactions to me is what has ruined it for me.

I could go on, but no matter how long my list of grievances gets, it would never be fair to call this game embarrassing garbage. Come on, man…:

If you came up with a measured, specific, objective list of realistic grievances then they might be willing to take your criticisms to heart. But when people make these “the sky is falling and the universe is about to implode and it’s all Ramone’s fault!!” posts then I can’t imagine SDS developers pay it the least bit of mind. And who can blame them?
And it’s absolutely 10000% not just the OP, and it’s not just MLBTS gamers, and it’s not just any corner of society. Over the last decade or so, this blindingly all-or-nothing attitude feels like it’s coming from everywhere and everyone about everything. How often do you hear someone say “that (movie/game/tv show/whatever) had some decent moments, but it was overall a missed opportunity. While A, B, and C were interesting ideas, I felt like ultimately it fell short because of X, Y, and Z.” No, instead it’s got to be “this movie was the worst thing in history and everyone involved should be jailed.” I don’t understand how people live like that, to be honest. Just walking around amped up like Tony Montana or something. It just sounds exhausting and detrimental to your mental health.
I don’t know, dudes. It just feels like everyone is afraid of their opinion being overlooked if it doesn’t feel balls-to-the-wall, over-the-top, definitive and authoritative. I feel like this extremism is a result of social media — it’s like people think there’s no time (or characters!) for a nuanced, justified, measured and well-reasoned opinion. People seem less concerned with making a cogent, defensible argument and much more concerned with being the biggest and loudest in order to cut through what they perceive as the white noise of other people’s opinions.
In the end, wouldn’t the world be a tiny bit better if we stopped aiming to be so wildly extreme in our opinions? (Btw — sorry for typos. My phone’s keyboard is the absolute worst piece of feces ever conceived by the unholy demon spawn developers who should be knifed in the soul and forced to play ET for all eternity whilst getting clubbed in the nuggets with an elephant tusk dipped in evil)”

I feel like many people come here to rant or complain just to get things off their chest but a large portion of the regulars are very guilty of bullying and piling on anyone who doesn’t fall in line with their particular viewpoint that things are the best they’ve ever been year in an year out. SDS could remedy this by actually monitoring this forum better than they do. Currently they do a very poor job at it.
When r/mlbtheshow on Reddit is more civil they need to moderate their “own forums” much better then they do now. This would probably lead to more constructive conversations and less of the mean girl attitudes many regulars exhibit here unchecked.
