Captain boosts

Have yet to try them on my god squad but I’m tempted. The captain has to be in your active squad right? Not on your bench? What about if you sub him later?

The Captain can be on your bench. I don't know about if they are subbed out during a game - that is an interesting thought.
Edit: I checked, and they have to be in your lineup to be effective and not on the bench.

Pretty sure they have to be in your starting lineup pre first pitch and stay there. But you can use them as a DH.

You are correct. I just checked, and they do have to be in the lineup. I edited my post above. Sorry about the confusion. I thought I had one on the bench and it was effective, but I am wrong.

It's all good. That's the intention of this forum. To help others. I've posted many a post that I thought was correct and it wasn't. We're all human.
@Hikes83_PSN just as a reminder, if you don't already know; you also have to tab over in the roster screen and assign the player as a Captain.
