Is Collecting Every Card Possible in 2023?
-
I’m starting to feel like getting every card will be impossible this year unless you are either putting in tons of real money, an elite level online player, or can live on the game 24/7 and flip non stop. Since I, along with most players, don’t fit into any of these groups it’s a pointless endeavor.
I know people will say I don’t need every card in the game or simply put in the work and get good, but it’s still more than a little discouraging knowing I have pretty much zero chance of playing with all the great cards in the game like in years past. I’m not ranting just saying the best cards are basically only attainable thru buying expensive packs or thru elite level online play. For us offline average joes we have to settle for the lesser cards dressed up as 99s. Feeling this way 5 weeks in can’t possibly bode well for the longevity of this game in my book. The only ones left playing come summer will be the no lifers and super casuals. The in betweeners will be, as the late great Ernie Harwell used to say, loooong gone. Any thoughts?

Yes i believe it will be possible, i'm over 35% at the moment just from finding things to flip and investing in other cards, but i've found that a lot of the cards are actually out of the TA program at the moment. It will be interesting to see what the second set does though and how it impacts the first set.
It may be more difficult but i feel that flipping will eventually get even better margins as we go along and once the conquest maps start having better packs and rewards things should get a bit easier
Not to mention the programs all year will be loaded with stubs and packs themselves IE the Monthly Program that we are getting at the end of the week.

Yeah I know margins for flipping do improve as the year goes on and SDS is usually good at giving out packs and stubs for playing the game but it still feels overwhelming at this stage. I will remain cautiously optimistic but I’ve put in a good amount of time this year and just finished the TA program but am still only at 174 set 1 cards so 26 from Babe, 56 from Pedro and there is only 10 days left until set 2. I know set 1 will still be going on but just feel like keeping up with crazy content drops is exhausting at times. I appreciate grinding for something but when there is too much it can feel insurmountable.

I know the feeling, i just got to Ruth on Saturday, it does feel like there is a ton of content this year and I can see how it would completely overwhelm someone. My worry is that if we keep seeing the same players like 6 Manny Machado's (we have 3 so far that i know of) that it will get very boring but hopefully SDS has a plan for that.

I get most nms, I never get all.

Yeah I think it boils down to grinding for cards is what motivates me to play as an average player at best. When it feels like I can get every card I’m highly motivated. This year it feels like a content avalanche that makes collecting all cards highly unrealistic. I’m enjoying the game for the most part but can’t say I’m a fan of the shift in collections to one huge set, non sellable rewards, and jacked up premium pack prices. As many have stated this game is surely not pay to win as you can field a competitive team rather easily but the high end packs multiple times a week screams money grab. Smart marketing on SDS part but prices out a good sized chunk of the player base unwilling to dump hundreds if not thousands of dollars into the game.

Can we at least wait until Set 3 Drops and the new rules officially kick into effect before we make declarative judgements?

It’s just my opinion and I’m willing to let it play out for sure. My view isn’t necessarily right or wrong just an impression of the direction the game is headed. I still genuinely enjoy the game for what it is but the fact my motivation to play is already waning 5 weeks in is a new experience for me so I’m trying to figure out why that is the case. Time will tell as always.

It's going to be very hadr this year. last year I had all the cards before I signed off The Show for the year....getting all TA cards is going to take a ton of time, especially with mini seasons broken.....and so many new high end cards keep coming out so it is going to be much harder IMO

I imagine it will still be possible, but I don't plan on going for that goal this year. That should be a hard feat to accomplish so I don't necessarily think its a bad thing. 21 and 22 were stupid easy to own every card in the game and 20 would have been easy if it weren't for the waitlisted cards. Idk. I feel like this year I can play at my own leisure more instead of chasing the 100% card ownership
